Genuine Call or Scam ?

Mudman

Recommended Posts

This is to the CK Knott mainly but interested if anyone else has had similar

Had a call yesterday afternoon from a lady claiming to be from Highway Insurance ( Who I am insured with via CK 2 cars)

Went like this

Brring Brring !

Me : Hello ?

Her: Can I speak to Mr Mudman please ? ( name changed) :)

Me - The Mudman is Speaking.

Her. Hello this is Highway Insurance. For security reasons can you please confirm your name, address and contact details.

Me : Why are you calling me ?

Her - I'm sorry I can only discuss this once you have passed security.

Me - So you won't tell me why you are calling me ? i.e you instigated the call and want to speak to me but you won't tell me what its about ?

Her - I'm sorry I can only discuss this once you have passed security

Me - OK looks like this call is now over.Goodbye

Click............

Call was unknown number - How do I know its was really Highway Insurance ? They didn't ring back. Even if was genuine - How the hell I am supposed to know that before giving out my personal details ?

In the chance it was genuine please CK team find out what they wanted and PM me or get them to write to me.

Hi Mudman, that doesn't sound right. Let me check it out for you and I'll come back soon.

I'm wondering how the caller would know you're with Highway otherwise but I'm not aware of them needing to make outbound calls to clients. Please could you PM me your real name and postcode so we can ask Highway if they've specifically tried to call you.

thanks,
Nick

I use this - never answer a number I don't know - if they are possibly genuine they will leave a voicemail or send a text.

Last spam call I had:

I've used similar in the past.

It's always worth googling some of these nuisance caller numbers as fairly often you will find loads of info online from other people about them. ;)
