i've only had my 2008 since august but the stock cd player has been just fine for me, so you might get lucky. i read that they were prone to skipping too, but maybe that's something that like a lot of teething problems would have been sorted out years ago?

as for the power, i went from a 130bhp FWD car to the zed, the compare sites had plenty of offerings at very good prices, the only catch is none of the ones quoting that low will touch modifications. not even cosmetic ones. talking to one guy he said it's to avoid the "max power crowd". so maybe pick a nice stock zed, enjoy her for a year as is. then next year you can go with a specialist insurer that's happy to do you a deal because you've proven you can handle the car. ahh, to be insured on my own merits not what ever stereotype i've been bucketed with, next year is gonna feel nice! my old company wanted to double my premium because of the power increase, the ones quoting didn't care what my last car was.

p.s. the m20 is still nice late at night when it's just you and the trucks, and having the base speaker pointed right at your back... tis a good car to cruise in :)

I wonder why there are any second hand Z's still for sale that have the Bose HU if they are so naff!

not naff .. CD can skip (so i;ve read) ..zero issue if you're a radio person! ;) I see the original stereo unmessed with much more appealing than perhaps the unit that was fitted in mine when I got it (and the wiring mess someone had left for me!) and whilst I also love listening to music, I rarely have music playing as I like to hear the car, probably because my daily is an oil burner and I always have music up in that! :teeth: - but V6 3.5 is an addictive sound track :D

Yes, still have the original Bose in mine, in my case I don't have any CD's and never got around to converting any of my 2,000 vinyl LP's to mp3 format so I just listen to radio 5. I've never used the tape either, has anyone?

Mine has the original Bose in mine. I considered the aux hack for iPhone choons but I now use an "olixar smartune" fm modulator from mobilefun.com which plugs into the rear 12v socket. Works a treat

I also got a satechi BT button to control the ffd/rew and vol +-
