  1. Is that not the whole idea, and not a bad one at that? The country is skint, this makes money for the coffers instead of cuts or taxes, and will also provide work for a good few people. The more I think about it, the more convinced I am it's a good idea. The only downside is that the country is already too small and full of roads, and that they'll only leave the speed limit at 70mph on these lovely clear roads anyway.
  2. Naff all. Don't see 97 compared to 99, see low octane (95) to high octane (97-100).
  3. if not you'll just be guessing and second guessing what you should do to increase performance and put money and time in the wrong area... I'd like to know if I cut holes in my lining if it actually made any difference, if I install titanium shims does it hinder heat travelling to my calipers, if I get a different type pad does it help heat buildup, if I install brake ducts does it do any difference... otherwise you just work on the 'feel' and think that something made a difference when it really didn't. I see your point, but can you tell the difference between discs at 600c and discs at 700c? I can't, but I can tell the difference between fluid that's boiling and fluid that is fine, which is why feel is more important on brakes than raw data. Like at said, when you're racing then there is a good reason to use temps to gauge how the brakes are reacting over long and short distances, but for the average road or track day driver it's irrelevant data. When I buy brakes I look at the numbers but also ask for experience in terms of feel, and if the setup turns out to be fine then it doesn't matter what temps they get to.
  4. Ford or Vauxhall really. A mk1 Mondeo will last forever, same as an old Astra.
  5. And you're considering an Alfa and a Pug??!! Only kidding, I know what you mean. Thing is, even an older car is going to cost you much less to run than one of the two you mentioned, and what you save you keep as a slush fund in case something does go wrong. Worst comes to the worst you bin it and get a new one.
  6. IMHO, the only time you need to worry about specific brake temps is if you're constantly getting a soft brake pedal, or if you're racing. If what you are using is fine and you're happy with it, then knowing whether you're hitting 600c or 700c is irrelevant, albeit interesting to know. It's the kind of geeky thing I'd do at a trackday with some mates as a p*ssing contest for a laugh, but in real terms it's not something most people would ever need to think about.
  7. Buy a £500 shed and run that instead. Far cheaper than buying a new car, even over lease.
  8. I'm using the Sky Sports app. Full live timings, in-car cameras, and free! Assuming you have Sky already, of course.
  9. Assuming they were kept in a decent state, and had ANPR on them so you didn't have to stop and fish around for change or a card, then I'm all for them. I always use the M6 Toll when heading out that way, and you only need look at France or the US to see how toll roads can be done properly. Since they'll be something that you don't have to use if you don't want to, I can't see any issues with this plan at all. Yes, it will need careful overseeing to ensure it doesn't end up like Bronzee's examples, but it doesn't automatically have to end in disaster.
  10. That test was also run in conjunction with Thorney, a firm who don't exactly have a great rep any more for producing reliable results/figures.
  11. The DRLs on my 911 are that exact same thing, could be worth trying to search the interweb for those to see what they are?
  12. Never done that comparison as I haven't had access to the right equipment, but interesting idea. That said, BBC HD looks better than a lot of other HD channels on Sky HD anyway, so I suspect any downsampling to be minor. It's like buying a new TV, you can go into the shop and compare them all side by side and see which one is best, but when you get it home you're only direct comparison is the TV you had before and it will always look better than that one.
  13. Name added to the list, please give me a shout if I've missed anyone's name off
  14. He's right, they are. Unless you're driving a massive great truck or earth excavator, you don't need a reversing camera.
  15. Cracking update Sarah, and with the FA Cup too!
  16. Didn't the beeb have HD last year?? Or am I missing the point of that comment? They did, but the Sky HD is much clearer than the BBC HD.
  17. Saw one at Brooklands last year, was absolutely mint and had only done about 100 miles since it left the factory
  18. Anywhere between £50-£100 to get it done properly.
  19. Get proper 4-wheel alignment done, and don't forget that the wheel will never be perfectly straight as the roads have a slight camber on them.
  20. As long as you like it, that's all that matters. Personally I wouldn't pick a turbo'd FWD scrabble wagon, but there's no doubting it's a much nicer place to be than the Zed is. Not convinced parts will be any cheaper than the Nissan though...

    370z RFL?

For those people who's RFL is due this month, don't forget the Budget is next week so you might want to buy it before then, just in case
  22. Wow first day of real action and they are showing reruns already At least they're showing something Also, Georgie and Natalie are somewhat easier on the eye than DC and EJ.
  23. Highlights at 1PM, aren't they? Sky will have shown them twice again before then
