Why?

I got as far as reading the word Japspeed and came to the conclusion it was a piece of crap.

So in the same sort of theory, I don't think anyone who works as a nurse is worth the money they're on. All they do is change bedpans, mop up sick and take temperatures: Basically, they're a doctor's bitch. Top whack for them should be minimum wage, no more. Teachers, on the other hand, are worth loads more. Other people's kids are awful, much less having a whole class of them all day. Actually, you can include defence solicitors in that too, as they spend all day working with the scum of society who have done naughty things. They should be paid more, too. Too much like hard work. We should all be paid the same, regardless of job.

Sounds like to me someone's looked at how easy it is to do laminate flooring, and thought "Chuff me, I could do that! I've made a bit of a mistake here by getting someone else to do it..." Are you actually saying that no-one is worth charging £300 a day? Or what jobs do you feel should be worth it?

It is, but again you're paying for the job, not the time taken. You got a day less hassle out of it, too!

So by your own admission he did a good job and is a good tradesman, yes? And you'd be happy to pay a good tradesman £150 a day, also yes? And you expected him to take two days, still yes? Now maths isn't my strong point, but I think I see a slight flaw in your argument here... I genuinely wouldn't get out of bed for £150 a day unless it was something I was seriously interested in. No offence, but that's your fault for employing people you think are too expensive. I'm sure you can find someone cheaper, but will you get as good a job done? Sometimes you will, sometimes you won't. Pot luck. If you think they're expensive then you don't use them again. If the people where you work would like to earn the same kind of money, why don't they re-train and do it?

I know what you mean, I had great fun on a Walshy day trying to beat the computer before it fired the brake, got it a couple of times too! I'm surprised it fires the ABS though, seems a bit cack handed. It certainly never felt like ABS. You learn something new every day, ta.

Okay, assuming you're on £350 p/w would you do an extra shift at the weekend for £70 then? On what I earn a week, and I wouldn't work a 6th day for the same amount pro rata. As I said, my spare time is more valuable than work time. Work to live, not live to work. That doesn't mean I don't do the graft when required, but it does mean that I do get to enjoy the time I have off.

Most businesses need to set a minimum charge to cover themselves for the jobs that either turn into a nightmare or the ones that get cancelled or you **** up on and lose out. It's about trying to make sure you cover yourself for losses elsewhere in the business.

Okay, let me re-phrase it a bit: If you were offered £40 to work one day extra a week, would you? It's all down to what you earn and what you need to earn that decides whether or not you'd charge high for a weekend work, I guess. Percentages, if you will. Why should I work for peanuts at the weekend if I don't need to? Why should anyone? Also, everyone always thinks that all the materials they choose are top quality. They're usually wrong. I'm sure that's not the case with you of course, just a generalisation.

I can see the brakes intervening by gently applying themselves to the wheel in question, but surely not hard enough to fire the ABS? That would seem crazy, it only needs to slow the wheel a fraction not stop it rotating completely.

You're not paying for the time, you're paying for the knowledge to do the job. Also there's nothing worse than people supplying their own kit, as not only do you lose your profit on the materials but also it tends to be any old crap and invariably bits missing which you then have to waste time with. They also have to pay for their own insurance which isn't cheap any more, plus all those lovely taxes that PAYE folks tend to forget that small businesses as well as Starbucks have to pay. £300 to give up half of a weekend seems more than fair to me. I wouldn't do it for less than that, my free time is more important to me.

I wouldn't give hiim £100 for it. Why did they only put the valve on one side? Would've been better off on the midpipe.
