  1. 100k is no different to 90k or 110k. It's just a number. Buy on condition, not on mileage. I'd rather a well looked after 100k car than a 50k car where the car was a scab.
  2. ... Sorry, what? I can't hear you, the aircon is running full whack to keep up with the magnificent sunshine! ...

Engine failure on a stock GTR wouldn't bother me, but gearbox failure or a modified engine would. Sod's law, you know if you can't afford it then it's you that's going to have the issue. On a 981 manual car I personally wouldn't worry about extended warranty, but if it had PDK I would. Again, highly unlikely you'll have an issue, but at £15K for a new 'box do you want to risk it? It terrified me when I ran my 911 for a year with no warranty purely on that basis Mustang is irrelevant because OEM warranty. You're right, it's just insurance. How you feel on that is down to the person, it's a bit like track day insurance in that regard. Millions of people run the cars with no issues, but cars are a complex piece of kit and nothing is infallible.
  4. I am disappoint that you have no faith in me :(
  5. I'd be okay with that, I think. That part of the tyre is thicker than you might think.
  6. Here for sale are a set of four Rota wheels for sale. But wait, I hear you cry, there's FIVE wheels shown! Yes folks, that's correct, I'm doing a BFGOF offer: Buy Four, Get One Free! All wheels are Rota MXR, 18x8.5, 5x120, ET45 in flat black with a gloss black lip. Four wheels are in excellent condition, however they have been used for approx 800mi on the roads. They have been protected with FK1000P before they even went near a car, and since they came off they have sat in my garage awaiting a new home. The free wheel was on the car for 40mins, until I brushed against a kerb on the way home from picking the car up. Damage is as shown, likely an easy fix for any wheel repair place and I do not believe there is any structural damage to the wheel at all (it was a brush with a kerb, not a whack). Due to the kerbing, this one is free if you buy the other four. Keep it as an emergency spare, repair and flog on, do as you see fit. As always I forgot to do the picture thing so instead you can have a lovely shot of my ugly mug next to the wheel. I know, I'm good to you like that. The four good wheels are now boxed up. Price for all five wheels is £675, collected from Halstead in Essex or Stansted Airport. If you live a bit further afield or can't quite get to me then I'll meet you halfway or maybe even deliver myself if you cover my fuel or don't haggle me down: Try me, I'm probably more flexible than you think. If you really want a courier to deliver them, then as long as you're happy to arrange it I'll make sure I'm about for them to collect.

Mustang is MUCH roomier than the GTR. I suspect the Cayman may have marginally more storage room, due to having two boots. EDIT: I checked, GTR has 315L, Cayman has 405L and Mustang 408L. Very close between the Ford and Porker!
  8. Michel... Nah, I'm kidding I don't run winters, but if I did then I'd simply pick the cheapest out of the major brands (Pirelli, Conti, Michelin, Bridgestone) as you're using them as a temporary measure for crappy weather. You're not aiming for any kind of performance out of them, but I'd still stick with a decent manufacturer.
  9. I'll be sticking with MPSS until they run out of stock. And what bad weather?! It's been 30c here for the last couple of days, I keep having to water the garden as there's not been a drop of rain!

981 Cayman is the best car to drive out of that lot. Pure NA flat six, you simply won't get one like that again so is going to hold value extremely well in the future. Buy the GTR if you want batshit mental speed. Cars at £40K do not appear to be going anywhere fast. Buy the Mustang if you want the sound. Or if you want a brand new car in warranty. However, that's not what you asked. In terms of running costs, you'll find that they're all much of a muchness. GTR is extremely expensive on brakes and tyres, but there's a healthy aftermarket support for them. The 981 will cost the same to run as your 350 (my 997 was identical to my 350, so speaking from experience and the 981 has better fuel economy). The Mustang I have little data on, however you can expect it to be a thirsty beast when on it (GTR level easy) although servicing costs are likely to be cheap as you'll prob just stick with Ford. Warranty on one will cover you for three years straight away, so zero cost there unlike the GTR (I'm not aware of an extended warranty programme for these) or the 981 (although you'll get 2 years OPC warranty if you buy from them, or you can buy in for £1K a year which is cheap considering the comprehensive nature of it). The long and short of it is that all three are going to cost you roughly the same. We may be talking £500 a year in it on the odd occasion, but that's nothing in the overall cost of ownership.
  11. A *decent* fully synth 5w30 would be my choice too. By which I mean not sh*tty Magnatec I'm not aware of any VQ engines with higher mileage that have shown themselves to require a slightly thicker grade of oil. You may wish to use a 5w40 if you're FI or it seems excessively tappity, but it's not a requirement.
  12. It's a 997, they don't do N rated MPSS in those sizes full stop. We have no idea what tyres or even what wheels the car is on.
  13. But I never knew that. Seems a trifle low-brow and inefficient for their standards.
  14. *tyres Bloody Germans, they need to remember who won the war!
  15. No-one has any idea what tyres that car was on, or condition, so passing judgement is impossible. I don't think the tyre manufacturer or the police would give a hoot really, although the control of the car was quite remarkable. Probably luck over anything else!
  16. Because no one bought one because they're crap

  18. At the end of the day we want to fill the wheel arch with rubber whether the car is lowered or bigger wheels, with standard wheels i can feel the undertray just rubbing on the stupid speed humps and with the bigger wheels its no problem Should be zero difference unless you've altered the profiles so much you've actually raised the car. The other possibility is that you've now got such little give in the sidewalls that the car is bouncing up off the bumps rather than the suspension (including sidewall) soaking it up.
  19. What has wheel size got to do with speed bumps and road kill?
  20. It's not, it's just a mental thing people have with cars. I'd either flog it and get something different, or repair it.
  21. I very much doubt a low production car like this will have low running costs. They'll have you over a barrel for parts and servicing.
  22. And just look at it. It's an instant cure for insomnia.
