Its the review that people watch for, not the opinion ........... otherwise you would be right, any man off the street could do it
-
I give up, I really do. See how many "men off the street" you can find working on TV as presenters that dont have journalism or media as a background, there is a reason for this believe it or not. If they just wanted "people with an opinion", then why not just pick up lads off the dole queue and pay them minimum wage? Clarkson particularly was a motoring journalist, May was the Editor of Autocar, thats hardly random choices is it?
-
No, they are all trained journalists who in 2 cases had worked as motoring correspondents previously, the other had fairly extensive radio exposure before he got the Top Gear gig as well. Peopel rarely end up on telly on the off chance, worse luck

Try working 4 miles from MArshall Cambridge, I see at least one a day. TBF we are even closer to the BMW garage, Im seeing about 1 i8 every week atm and Im bored of 4 series already
-
Another one! What are you basing this on exactly? "Annoying", "ridiculous" or "irresponsible" I can understand, but dull? SRSLY?
-
YEah, but some of us dont have the opportunity to sit on the phone for an hour only to be disappointed. Much easier to throw a few extra bucks at it and know youre going to be going
-
he presents a feature but takes no part in it because he isnt really interested in driving or can drive with any enthusiasm? That looks like another opinion to me, but whatever. And I havent "just read a book", Ive read both autobiographies, watched BB every morning for however many years, loved TFI and watched it every week and saw most of Toothbrush as well. I now listen to the guy every morning on Radio 2 as well, and I think its a bit of a pisstake how many people are saying "hes crap, TG will be crap, I dont like him" without really having seen, read or listened to anything the guy has done. Maybe thats not your opinion exactly but theres plenty of people who seem to be writing the guy off without actually having seen any of his previous TV.

I know, Ive contacted Viagogo to see what they say but the information is so vague I think I can guess what will happen. If we arent getting anything back then Im keeping the ticket so neither is the original buyer, hes already made twice what the tickets cost him from me, it may not be his fault it got moved but hes hardly out of pocket. If we lose out this will totally put me off buying from ticket sites, we did VIPs at Fleetwood Mac a few weeks ago and Rolling Stones last year and if Id have lost what I paid for them Id still be crying now. What a load of bollocks.

Why would you feel the need to comment on someone you know nothing about then? To be completely PC, I dont cast judgement on female porn stars, despite quite liking them .........
-
Hes a producer more than a presenter IMO, and as well as the Fezzas owns Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, a MkI Escort, a couple of Bentleys, a few race cars including a James Hunt F1 car ...... and what about Carfest, the CAR FESTIVAL that he organises each year? Have you read his books? No? Im surprised, really I am. Anyway, we are comparing him with Clarkson who cant drive for @*!#, knows nothing mechanically speaking and is totally wide of the mark when reviewing cars as well ....... 350Z anyone?
-
Id say that making 3 of the most popular light entertainment shows, the biggest commercial radio station of the last 20 years and the highest listeners for any radio show ever suggests he will probably have a fair chance at doing OK.
-
I bought off Viagogo for Saturday at well over face value, anyone know if they will refund what I paid or just face if they cancel? Gutted, was incredibly up for Royal Blood and Ive seen the Foos a couple of times, they are amaze.
-
So basically youve never seen or heard him outside of anything other than The One Show, which he doesnt produce or have anything to do with the content of, and have never read his books? Do you really think youre qualified to say how good or bad he will be on TG, or whether he is actually a car enthusiast or not? No, I think youll find that I said the last series of TG was the best in ages, I was gutted it got cancelled and that Clarkson shouldnt have been sacked as he was top drawer entertainment. Anything else youd like to be wildly inaccurate about while you are here?

Ekona has already said it, but posted by me elsewhere: Im struggling to understand the people that are saying this is anything other than awesome ......... Some might not remember TV before TFI Friday, Dont forget your Toothbrush or Big Breakfast but it was completely different, he literally redefined popular TV. He then went on to make (and lose) £1bn with Virgin Radio, and currently hosts the highest rating radio show ever. But more than this, the guy is a petrolhead with an amazing collection of cars, an undeniable passion for it (Carfest is a pretty good example but theres a lot more than that) and an actual knowledge of the history, mechanics and technology of motoring. So we have pretty much undeniably the most successful broadcaster/producer of the last 25 years who's first love in life is cars vs a journo from the local paper who admitted he didnt know and didnt care about cars, even after they made him a multimillionaire 50 times over and as we know was often well wide of the mark in his reviews. Fair play, if Evans does it and it turns out to be shyte then switch off, but I personally think hes the only person who can take a tired and hackneyed show like TG and make it fresh and exciting again.

docwra replied to leonk's topic in Spotted or Flyered
LOL, they are only half in the boot, thats 2 wheels SRSLY though, thats nice work - getting wheels into the car was one of the reasons I never seriously looked at using a 350, if a tyre guy is on site then you only need 4 but even thats a struggle if you want to close the boot. -
There was a Midnight Club VG30DETT Silvia doing the rounds a while back .......... and it wasnt any more expensive than if it wasnt Midnight Club. This guy is a dreamer.

4 wheels in the boot? What voodoo is this, I never even managed 2? -
Oooh look, someone who wants to prt ex a R34 against a 350Z: http://www.driftworks.com/forum/drift-cars-sale-private-sales/236701-r34-gt-turbo-4-door-swap.html The GT3 is a goal, an E92 M3 or a 135i are £15K cars so are withing reach of a 350Z owner and a bank loan. Ive driven plenty of examples of each (E82, E87, 1M, F21, F22), and while the M3 is a superb car IMO its a little too big too be flingable, and like most M cars (not the 1M, funnily enough) only comes properly alive when youre really pushing. A 135i with a remap and a set of Bilsteins is lighter, smaller, more economical, more wieldy and faster than an M3, what isnt to like? Looks are a matter of opinion, but the 1 coupe is hardly an ugly car ......... As for the GTR, I struggle to see how anyone can find it attractive, as with Ekona Im all about function over form but they could have at least made an effort to make it a little bit pretty

Finally Nothing to do with the names, a Quaife is a Torsen type diff that distributes power to the wheel with most grip, where the plate diffs distribute power equally when locked. I find plate diffs more predictable and they are far better for sliding about as well

Temporary toy for the summer - Porsche Cayman S
docwra replied to Adrian@TORQEN's topic in Other Cars
Twas my thought, my old Onevia went from pretty clean to ZOMG in the space of about 12 months when it moved from Cambridge to Aberdeen. -
The 1er performs better than an M3, it has far more usable torque and weighs considerably less, my one is faster than an M4 or M5. A 911 GT3 is at least 50K. I think you need to start living in the real world my friend. Anything thats 10 years newer than the Z33 design is going to be a considerable improvement, and Porsche and BMW have the reputations they do for a reason. As for Bennetts comments on spending 7K on anything, thats correct, but the point is a Cayman doesnt need modifying and a 135 sees 430hp with £1500 spent on it, its not really the same argument IMO.
-
Oh, and 135i coupes are rocking horse @*!#, I dont know where this "common" thing comes from - IIRC BMW sold about 1200 E82's in the UK over 5 years and only 40 in 2012. As Ekona says, lots of people already having a car doesnt really affect how good it is anyway.
