New 60 MPH Motorway Speed Limits to be Introduced.
gangzoom replied to WhackyWill's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Yeah look's great if you've got a spare £69K odd to sp**k away on something like that. Personally though I don't and if I did I'd rather have a cheaper performance car plus the extra cash in my back pocket to run it. Spending 70k on any car in my book is financial madness, but people do. But don't tell me your not tempted by the idea of a 3-4 year old M5 at 30-40k?? Who doesn't want that kind of performance for hot hatch money??....However £100+ to fill up, horrendous mpg, and high road tax means I'll never seriously consider owning one....But a 3 year old Tesla S for similar money, £10 to refuel, no road tax/congestion charge...For me it's a 'no brainer' The government cannot ignore the constant stream of doom/gloom coming out of the UN about global warming, and given the unpredictable nature of the weather of late your be a brave man to stick your head in the sand and ignore it. Either way Tesla have shown that electric cars are far from inferior compared to conventional machines, infact I would say they have shown just how inferior the internal combustion engine is compared to the elective motor in terms of generating motion. How you generate that electricity is another argument but for now I say the future looks good for 'petrol heads'. Tesla plans to announce a sub £30k car by 2017, cannot wait I hope the guys at Nissan feel a little bit embarrassed that for all their money/experience in the car industry they could only come up with something like the Leaf, and Tesla a company that been around only for 10 years can produce the S. -

There's no point petition the government on stuff like this, the various world leaders are pretty much committed to reducing fossil fuel use, and motorist are an easy target. But the future is not looking too bad for us 'petrol heads', I'm 95% sure the next car I buy will be electric, most likely something like the Tesla S, its not because I believe in global warming or care that much about fossil fuel use....It's simply because something like the Tesla S is so much cheaper to run than the equivalent petrol car, and because its a 'green' the wife has given the go ahead Even Evo doesn't seem to think its too bad: http://www.evo.co.uk/carreviews/evocarreviews/292195/tesla_model_s_performance_review_specs_and_price.html -

Having a baby sounds like great fun Through pure parent pressure, and fast running out of mates who's lives don't revolve around screaming/pooeying/eating machines we're going to have to give in and join the band of sleep deprived, estate/mpv driving, and broke brigade soon.....cannot wait More seriously though if your going to get rid of the car soon don't waste any money on anything but the very minimal....it wouldn't make any difference come sale/px time. 32 and feeling old. Cannot even remember how old I was when I bought the Z

Saw this video just now....I never ever try to go down the side of a truck anyways, but my god I will do my best to stay as far away from a truck as possible in future ....Even makes me a bit nervous to go near a truck in my car. TFL video

Pappa's got a brand new Datsun!! Infiniti G37S (Pic heavy)
gangzoom replied to stanski's topic in Other Cars
If you want something devoid of character, dull to look at, and as common as Ford/Vauxhall you just have to walk into any BMW/Audi/Merc show room and your be spolit for choice ..... Thats coming from someone who drives a BMW . It's good to see someone getting something other than a boring German lux barge. -

Looks lovely -
Nice sound but a bit "old". like this one though... http://www.autotrade...age/2?logcode=p Looks nice....but official mpg of 20....cannot imagine what that translate to real world usage One thing is for sure your be very friendly with your local petrol station

Go for the S4, in a different league compared to the others!!

Oh almost forgot....if you really want performance AND economy AND cheap road tax take a look at the Tesla S. Faster than an AstonMartin Rapid, £6 to 'fill' up, 300 mile range, road tax exempt, battery swap takes <2 minutes at a supercharging station, and cheap servicing....showed the promotional video to my wife last night, even she was impressed. Cannot see me getting anything else when the time comes to replace the 335

Clearly you like BMWs, but I'm glad you have finally accepted no number of fancy gadgets makes up for not having a proper engine in the car Why did you cancel the order for the M135i, Clarkson is a great entertainer but that's it, I remember he had a strong dislike of the Z, I certainly wouldn't cancel a order based on his ramblings....But I wouldn't have ordered a M135i in the first place, it's got a face only a mother could love. If you have the cash get the M235i, they look lovely, or just bite the bullet and get a M3. You need to accept you cannot have performance AND economy AND cheap road tax, but at the same time it's clear you love BMWs so go for it get one with a proper engine.

Congrats on the purchase, am sure your love it

They are Alufelgen SF-71 19" wheels, TUV and JWL approved. Bought them off a chap that had them imported from the states. Not normally a big fan of massive wheels but these do look good on the car I know CSL like wheels are common but on a saloon I think they look perfect. On a coupe the BMW 313s look good but on a saloon just doesn't look right so I went for CSL type. With standard 18inch

We've got a Civic 2.2 and BMW 335i in the family. I wouldn't say the Civic was chavvy, there's loads on them around, it's massive inside, get the top of the range model and it's full of toys, your get 50mpg on a M run quite easily, and to be very honest it's got enough power/torque to keep up with most things. I've been able to keep it pretty much stuck to the bumper of a 330i down a country road once, and let's just say it was a rather sprites drive ...But not really a 'fun' car to drive, buy one for commuting not for fun/driving pleasure. The 335 is on a whole different levels, stock is pretty good but not all that exciting, spend some money on decent mods (£5k ish) and it's basically a junior M car. I've got the saloon and it's not the most practical car, boot is small, rear seats don't fold down, and despite been bigger on the outside than the Civic rear leg room is worse.

£140 service at a main BMW dealer...are you sure they acutally did any work on the car. Last time I checked (3 months ago) my BMW dealer was charging £140+vat/hr just for labour Not that I would take my car any where near a main BMW dealer for any kind of work, wouldn't trust them to change the air filter let alone work on the engine...Luckly Mitz/Andy at CS are just as good working on the 335 as a Z

BMW makes some great cars and the 335s are aweason, but don't buy them on the basis of economy / money saving compared to the Z. Never driven the 335D, but from what I've read they are not that much more ecnomical than the 335i. My 335i will happly do 35-40mpg on a M run if you stick the curise control on and stick to the speed limit....But than some random bit will break your have to pay £££ for to be replaced...I just spent £360 on an electicwater pump, and that with trying to source if cheap, buy it from BMW your looking at £440 Cannot complain too much though have spent far more on pointless mods ....Regardless of how much you spend on mods though it'll still look like a 320D to 99% of the publics, which isnt a bad thing. Still with a nice set of wheels they don't look too bad compared to the current 1 series.. But as some one has already mentioned, dont buy one on the pretence of trying to save money....These were/are nearly £40K+ new when speced up, and don't have anywhere near the realibity of the Z so be prepared to part with some £££ to keep it on the road.

Wasted ALOT of my life on UT at uni....Getting GOD LIKE status on Morpheus with one shot kill mode on was the high point of my gaming career, and since than its been down hill all the way
-
So RedBull within 1 second of the Mercedes despite having done 1/3 of the pre-season mileage, and bringing essentially a 'new' car to the grid....doesn't look good for the rest of the grid.

Trust me I looked long and hard for anything but a BMW/Audi to replace my 350Z....in the end it came down to a S4 or 335, having a mortgage and wife means my car upgrade choices were limited to say the least (still not really a bad dilemma to have). Though now that I've got a just a few choice mods on the 335 (thanks to Mitz/Andy at CS) I wouldn't swap it for anything else, swapping it for a E90 M3 (never a option for me thanks to my wife taking a dislike to its bonnet vents) would now be a downgrade for me in terms of performance, and the fact the 335 looks like a 320D is bonus for me . Now I just wish the thing would stop breaking down ....But if Nissan/Honda/Toyota could make a saloon/coupe that offers the better performance/economy I would happily get back into something Japanese, the new Lexus IS350 is first Jap car I've seen that can match a S4/335, though its not nearly quick enough to temp me out of my 335.

Bikes - The "awesome" kind with no engines
gangzoom replied to AK350Z's topic in Off Topic Discussion
Went for the first proper ride of 2014 yesterday...It's so annoying how quickly fitness goes...3 mph avg slower than 6 months ago But I blame it on the fact the road bike had a bit of mud on the forks...that must have caused a unbelievable amount of extra drag, and lets not forget the extra weight the mud would have slowed me down loads on the climbs -
Looks like good value for money...but at the same time, for the same money you can have a 335i from the same year, similar millage, but a combined mpg of 39.2 vs 26.6 for the Infiniti, Road tax of £475 for the Infiniti vs £200 for the 335i...and regardless of what the 'official' BHP figures say the 335 will out drag and out handle the G37. I think I read somewhere Infiniti barely sold 1000 cars in the whole of last year, not sure how long they can sustain that for before they pull out of the market http://www.autotrader.co.uk/ I did see quite a lot more G37s when over in the states, but they have much cheaper petrol, and Infiniti has a much more aggressive pricing. One of our family cousin bought a pretty much new fully loaded G37 for $40K, where as the 335i started at $40K before you add any options.
-
The problem for Infinity is that at £30-40K price range they are competing with some pretty tough German competition....and an official rating of 26mpg rating in a 300bhp car is just not good enough theses days, not when the both the S4 and 435i offers 35mpg....I rule out getting a G37 based on the mpg alone . I know people say you don't buy a 300BHP 6 cylinder car to worry about the mpg....I definitely don't care, but its ALOT easier to convince the other half that your buying a 'sensible' car when official mpg figures are in mid 30s compared to mid 20s. I know that there was no way my other half would have given the go ahead for me to buy a car that did less/same mpg as my old 350Z (my current 335i has an official mpg of 30, so I can tell my wife I've comprised and bought a more economical car than the Z every time she moans about filling it up ). I suspect most people in the Infiniti's target market will have other halves who need to be convinced that spending £40K on a car is a reasonable proposition ..... Lucky for me the new hybrid/EV cars coming out may just mean in a few years time I'll be able to justify owning a fast car, that also has good official mpg rating which there other half will be happy with....come on Infinity by the time you've worked out how to make the 2014 RedBull actually complete a lap without overheating some of that hybrid tech must be destined for a road car .

Maybe am just getting old but that looks like its just crashed into the nearest branch of Halfords backwards. The brakes discs look tiny in thoses wheels (I assume 19/20 inch), cannot imagine how hard the ride will be...does a 4 cylinder engine really need 4 exhaust pipes and vents on the bonnet, and what's with the rear spolier the standard Civic has bad enough rear vision already??....Yeaph am definitely getting old
-
Good info, but confirmed what i already know, am far too poor to even consider looking at one let alone run one I think I've reached my motoring glass celling, it seems like the only cars I would consider replacing my 335 with all have double the running costs and half the mpg. Oh well can still dream on
