Not what the reviews say (I read a lot when I was looking at cars with the same two engines) but I agree the best thing is for you to drive back to back. IMHO the interior of the Audi is streets ahead of the 3 series but there's little doubt the BM will be the more rewarding drive. Depends where your priorities lie.

EVO didn't bother with the 370Z in this years ECOTY and had it down as one of the most disappointing cars of the year as it doesn't really move the game on from the 350Z. They mentioned the handling and engine refinement as being backward steps. They still love the downshift blip thingy though.

But the BM's engine is miles better than the Audi's.

I'd agree with this. I stepped out of a MY03 into an MY07 and no perceptible loss of torque. The increase in power is very noticeable. The MY07 is smoother and more refined low down but rev it out to the red line and its got a far more cultured rumble at high revs where the old car used to sound strained. IMHO the later engine is a huge improvement and the one to have.

Looks pricey. Don't get too caught up in the talk of rising prices on here. They have gone up in the last couple of months with the general market but we're coming into winter, tough time to sell 2 seat rwd sports cars, and the end of the scrappage scheme is likely to depress the whole market shortly. Also its noticeable in my area that numbers of Zeds for sale seem to be increasing quickly suggesting that those looking for strong money may well have their cars hanging around for a while. Good luck with your search.
