  1. I know there's a specific start procedure for a warm engine, but mine doesn't like it too much - either that or I'm doing it wrong. In the manual it says something about starting (hot) with the loud pedal depressed..? My Scooby was like this, it's as if the car knows when you are taking it for granted, or getting used to it and likes to give you a mild coronary now and again...
  2. Given that I'm such paranoid Zed owner, I thought I might open this one up to the community Ok, starting the Zed. Normally I dip the clutch, turn they key get a couple of 'chugs' and a whoosh, and all is well. Everything is fine, nice and stable etc. Very occasionally (twice this month) The Zed has struggled a bit getting going. It actually fires up, and then coughs a bit (the revs drop really low) before eventually settling out and running fine. All of this brown-trouser-facilitating stuff takes place very quickly I have to say. It always seems a bit 'air' related to me (I may be barking up the wrond tree) and it seems like the Zed hasn't enough air to get going. Albeit for a second or two... So, is that normal? (95% of the time it's fine!) I mean, what's other owners start-up consistency like? (for sound, feel, time etc)
  3. Wow, gutted for you I drove through some pretty deep water coming back from Sheffield last weekend. I'm glad to say that it didn't affect the car, despite it being at least 12 inches deep... I remembered my 4x4 day and kept the revs pretty high to prevent water coming back along the exhaust and all seemed ok. Hopefully it will be fine - fingers crossed
  4. I'd still do some searching around, that seems a tad high for me. I had my imported Scooby at that age and was paying around £750, and given that's a lot more 'nickable' than a Zed you can see where I'm coming from A-Plan are pretty good with all performance stuff. You can get the phone number from their website, select the Thatcham branch for performance stuff. Confused is obviously worth 10mins of your time. Other than, try checking the ads in the back of Evo It might also be worth looking at the Insurance section of Scoobnet, home of imported hard-to-insure beasts...
  5. for info I had mine done last week and paid £241 at Chorley Nissan
  6. Chorley Nissan! Although quoted £251 the final cost was £243. Nothing much to report really, the Zed was given a clean bill of health, so it's all good I thought I'd get the usual (pads and discs required soon sir ) but not so. Very reasonable experience
  7. Spot on To be honest I've never been that quick. I got 30,000 miles from my GYF1's on the Scoob and never needed to change the discs or pads. I suspect that life with the Zed will be similar For me it's not just about the pace, it's about the experience. From that characteristic start up and soulful idle, to the bark of 5000 rpm. It's about long summer days, and kids with their mums shouting "whoa 350Z!" It's about passing long lines of cloned sales reps wearing dodgy pink shirts in silver Vectras, it's about smiling at the 37th World Rally Blue Subaru you've seen that morning. It's about Megiuars and Autosol, lambswool mits and microfibre. It's about seeing other Zeds and wondering if *you* look and sound that cool when you drive by. Sod this office crap, pass me the Zed keys
  8. Don't forget the quicker you go the less people see you looking like a cool mofo I've not beaten that much actually, usually because my sensible, life preserving, license loving trigger kicks in long before the next guy I used to like embarrasing just about anything when I had the Scoob, outbraking and out-cornering even the quickest of machines I think the Zed really says "I don't need to, I'm a cool mofo anyway"
  9. And all for a grand total of £251..! It's with the dealer all day - here's hoping for a clean bill of health
  10. Paying the juice is an option, but the miles would be horrendous! Besides, It keeps the Zed feeling special
  11. Pics!!!! Nice colour choice too:)
  12. ... and the drawbacks fo course Having spent about 20mins in my Zed over the past 2 months, I thought I'd share a few thoughts whilst I'm on holiday and leading a moderately existentialist lifestyle... My company is kind enough to loan me an oil-burning Mondeo ST for my motorway hacking, and I can't help but respect it in a reasonable way. It's a great package, and whilst it doesn't sound or go like the Zed, it does have some great points. Firstly, 2 cupholders Seriously, it's great on fuel, and has pretty good pace too. It's better built than a Zed, and I swear to seeing a small South Amercian tribe living undisturbed in the vast bootspace... The biggest downside of Mondeo'dom is that noboby stares - it blends in better than a Navy Seal on exercise And so back to the Zed. I'm not sure how long it took Nissan to come up with the design for the throttle pedal, linkage etc. but it's just wonderful So much control, even if I smoked away from a junction or two today It's the little things, like the simplicity of the dsiplay, the flicker of the gauges, and the errant static that comes from the centre dash marked - radio... The balance - awesome; pace and sound are out of this world. But for me it's the looks I view the zed with the same kind of wonder, desire and craving that a p*ss head views a kebab... ah So, having covered a grand total of 8 miles today, the Zed goes back in the garage for another week. It's not even sunny enough for Megiuars Happy Zedding folks
  13. I wouldn't beat yourself up too much, I have very limited clearance getting mine out of the garage, maybe 7-10cm at each side. For me, it's ony a matter of time I reckon Have a word with the Dent guys, you'll be surprised what cn be removed/polished out!
  14. My thoughts exactly... If that little yellow light does ever come on for example, I feel safer knowing I have at least something behind me
  15. Well it depends on how you value piece-of-mind really. You could always stick the money in an ISA and wait it out..? Even though the Zed has been faultless, I ended up opting for an additional 2 years warranty for £499 from my local dealership. It's a non-Nissan warranty which (besides being cheaper) is easier to access according to the dealership. If the Zed continues the way is has, it will be dead money, but you never know. This way, if I get a weird noise from the engine bay, it doesn't automatically signal a brown-trouser moment...

    DENTEC

He's very good indeed - he spent most of an afternoon trying to remove a selection of dents and creases from my door - highly recommended, genuine bloke. He's right next to the karting arena in Warrington. I found it quite tricky to find, but just follow the karting signs...
  17. Hi all, After suffering the scratches for too long, I'm thinking about the carbon fibre looky-like thingies - if you know what I mean Tried CTD but they don't stock - does anyone have the pics/info? thanks all
  18. It takes a while to adjust... I came into Zed ownwership from a Scoob, with trademark idiot-proof handling My first roundabout induced 360 taught me a lot Being very gentle with the throttle helps - of course you can still get caught out
  19. Mine was the same; it was the rear anti-roll bar drop link bushes (they dry out). Peel back the rubber boot a little and use spray grease on the joint. Cured mine. Hope that helps. Hmm, that sounds interesting - any pics? (Mine creaks like an old Spanish Galleon at the rear - usually when reversing over uneven ground. e.g. Up the kerb and onto the driveway.)

    Zed v Scooby

Hmmm, well having also owned both I would guess the Scooby will be quicker. However, driver skill will play a huge part, as will picking the time and place. Even in standard form (13 years old and no mods - yeah right) the Scooby Sti is a quick car. You will find that although you will be able to out-brake him, he will be able to carry so much more speed into the corners, and hence will win most of the time. If he's a sympathetic driver, he won't drop the clutch, and will do a Scooby-friendly rolling start. This is perhaps the easiest place to get the drop on him, and call it quits when you hit sixty If it's an open road, he will run out of puff before you do
  21. I'm getting my P3 done next month for £251, so I'm guessing that's a tad expensive
  22. Very nice 07 plate Azure soft top heading down the M6, then a private plated GM heading down the M40 just before lunch... I was in a black Mondeo drooling
  23. New thread suggestion; All Time Top 100 Dealer Excuses for not Fixing Stuff...
  24. Ditto There's a not a great deal in it (at any speed) when using the digital unit. I actually thought there'd be a lot more...
