  1. thanks all Ok, so the first step seems to be replacement of the fronts - and I may as well dynamat whilst I there I suppose? Are there any recommendations for speakers, or will sticking to an established brand be ok. I was thinking of Alpine type R's for just around £120-£140 ish..? Infinity seem to be ok as well - good recommendations I suppose an easier question is - what do I steer clear of?
  2. after 12 months of driving around with the standard audio setup, I'm at my wits end So, what can be done on a moderate budget, contraints include; 1. It's the non-Bose, standard setup - is this easier order harder to modify? 2. Ideally I'd like to keep the standard HU, as I love the steering controls and it looks neat/stealthy. Other than that, open to suggestions..! Would simply spending £100-£150 on a new set of full range 17cm speakers do the trick? How about a set of mid range/bass for the rears? What can the standard HU handle? I like my audio, but I'm a complete ICE novice really Thanks
  3. Try that with an aftermarket zorst - I had 8 pardons just to dial!!! Arrghh That voice drives me nuts! me "dial name" her "pardon" me "dial name" her "pardon" me "cancel" her "pardon" me "oh for f**ks sake you stupid f**king thing - cancel!" ...her "pardon"
  4. I've never had any problems with mine, always worked well I use an old Nokia in there and keep it permenently in the car. The only downside is trying to persuade the nice young lady to 'dial home' at 80mpg on the m6
  5. Perfectly valid question I think it depends on a whole host of factors, not just wages, lifestyle for one I guess. People spend their cash on different things. Most of my mates spend £100 a month on booze, where as I'm lucky if I have a bottle or two of Becks at Christmas! I'm not one for expensive clothes/accessories - but I will happily spend £50 on car cleaning products Each to their own I guess! I came to the Zed from the Scooby, so cost wise, it was actually a cheaper car to run. However, as you rightly say, sticking £65 worth of super in can be quite depressing... Running a Zed isn't bad though, if you look at the car, it's power, looks etc. Compared to most similar cars, it's a steal, both to buy and run. I think most people at work think I have a sideline in crack What is weird is staring out on to the driveway and thinking, jeez, that's my car!
  6. one thing I wouldn't worry too much about the the 'two owners' thing. It could well have had two very caring owners - you never know I think the price seems a little high, but then I haven't kept up with the market since getting mine a year ago - far too depressing! All I can say (and it's obvious) is that there are far more Zeds around than there used to be, so haggle all the way
  7. You'll have no worries with a Zed Obviously you'll be getting fairly low MPG, but the short distance will offset that. In terms of the clutch, mine is fine, and so are many others. Don't forget that most people won't post "car working fine - no issues at all " Forums are great tools, but it's easier to get paranoid Ok, some have let go early on, but I'd say teh majority will be fine... (touches wood!) The car is very good in the city, I came from the Scooby, and compared to that the Zed is very drivable in towns and at low speeds. The steering is a little heavy, but I wouldn't have it any other way. Speed bumps: no issue with standard car - not sure about the kits As for the test drive/inspection - wow, where do you start when spending £20k As you've said it's from the dealer I'm going to guess it's a UK car, and hence has warranty, so that should give you massive piece of mind. So I would concentrate on other stuff. Make sure that the instant consumables are good, tyres for example. The last thing you want to do after shelling out 20g's is to drive straight into Kwik Fit and re-shod the car... Take a look at the 'known issues' bit if you want. But to be honest they're relatively minor, and covered by warranty. As far as I'm aware the differences between 06 and the rest are minimal. Besides the engine being slightly different (same as GT4 IIRC) the rear/front lights are LED/Bi Xenon types, and there are some minor amendments to the interior. I would say that only a Zedder or complete petrolhead would notice the differences... Go buy one, you won't regret it
  8. Well, I've done the Advanced Driving course, and spent a lot of time with PC1's perfecting my drive - so I guess it won't take long to get home today To the limiter in 6th -
  9. The gearchange is normal, at least as far I know I will have been Zedding for one year tomorrow (yay me ) and mine's always done that. It's a little more pronounced for me from when cold. In fact, a fellow Zedder stopped me as I was exiting our estate last month with the very same question - apparently he had just picked up the Zed from Brum and was convinced the 'box was stuffed. The other noise, sounds like the clutch release bearing, or thrust bearing as some call it? Anyway, mine's done that forever too! I did read somewhere about some bod getting this replaced under warranty, however I can't imagine my dealer saying anything other than "they all do that sir" Enjoy!
  10. If it fits, then use it - it will give you so much more piece of mind. As has been said, old rugs fastened to the walls are a great way to save the door handle from getting scratched. I picked up some 2x4 feet rugs for 1.99 each locally. I also use an old mirror positioned on the back wall, which allows me to see down the passenger side, this enables me to butt the passenger side up to the wall within 2-3 cm consistently, allowing just enough room to get out of the car... It's a slight struggle, but you get used to it. Top tip is to buy a few cheap mirrors and position them around the garage, giving the best views.* I wouldn't recommend reversing in, it's asking for trouble with a Zed

    static shock

used to get this all of the time when I had my Scooby - after a while you don't see the funny side anymore (it hurts bad!) try touching the door (metal) before your foot hits the ground, and you should be ok. Depends heavily on what you wear, my footy shirt is a killer
  12. Can't help it really, the slightest noise, rattle etc and I'm convinced my Zed is going to explode These 3.5L units are reliable right? Chatting with the rest of the Petrolhead community at work (Type R Jags, Scoobies, Porkers) I don't think it's just me... Since my service, I'm convinced I have just a little more engine noise when warming up - could be the oil I suppose, pretty sure I never had Esso Ulton Synth in before... Mental note: stop buying expensive cars, buy a £50 shed - less worry

    Exhaust Q

do you mean this one..? Very nice indeedy..!
  14. Just wondering what the collective OP looks like, mine's hovering at just under 30PSI on warm tickover - does that seem a little low..? (that's just shy of the 1st marker really)?? Thanks all
  15. All around Bamber Bridge area, one in Sainbury's, one in B&Q - anyone
  16. and for info, a further 15mins up the M61 to J8 you have Chorley Nissan - I've always found them to be pretty good. (just in case!)
  17. Just wondering if anyone is using this, or has any opinions for and against? Looking at my service invoice, it seems this stuff is the dealer's choice...
  18. In terms of the Reds, they have a rotating lineup, meaning that for every season, there's only 3 new guys, which are 'sheltered' by the rest of the team. The new guys usually occupy the slots closest to Red One. They practice daily, and I mean daily! They video everything from a central datum point on the ground, then, during the debrief they'll work through the set, commenting on positioning etc. Basically they start out close, and then just work closer! Each pilot in the group has a reference point on Red One, a seam, or a fastener or a stone chip etc. they use that point, viewed from their cockpit, to assume and maintain their position during formation. This can be pretty difficult when doing a long roll for example, as the outer pair are moving quicker than the inner guys One of the Hawk's few modifications is an improved throttle response. ...and it does sometimes. A few years ago the Reds did a display in a harbour area. (can't remember where) They recce'd the area and planned the display down to extreme detail. Unfortunately on display day, some bod had parked his yacht in the harbour with a sizeable mast - you can guess what happend..!
  19. awesome shots What kind of kit were you using for those..? The MiG was hugely impressive, pretty much all of the aircraft were. i felt sorry for the Super Hornet pilot going up straight after the MiG - what an act to follow. The MiG pilots landing was superb, he made it look so casual Got some good shots of the B52 and B1B tho
  20. Well, maybe this might help; I travelled from Preston to Fairford and back this weekend, and I made sure the tank was full before starting off. The journey down was a complete nightmare, stop/start from pretty much Stafford area to well into the M5. Anyway, the way back was clear roads and cruise time. So, at the moment the Zed in sitting in the garage having covered 480 miles with 80 something miles showing on the DTE. I would say the most effecient cruising speed is an indicated 68-70. I think 500 is possible given the right circumstances, as soon as you hit traffic it's not looking good.
  21. Wow - now that's some No Claims Discount there I found elephant to be good at £630ish, pretty much the cheapest I could get with ncb protection, low excess etc. Check the 'voluntary' and 'complusory' excess figures, as I nearly got caught with this one...
  22. I'm fairly lucky really, I do 20 miles per day round trip to work, which is all m'way. If I went into the towns and cities daily, it would be a lot worse
