  1. Ive got an 04 with 90k and good service history, nismo kit expensive wheels and other nice bits and pieces. I'd rather not say exactly what I paid as it needed quite a few bits doing to it and I got stung. I took it as I was hoping I'd fall in love with modifying again but I just haven't (summer may be a different situation). My zed would stay with me unless I get 6.5k for it, meaning I will be thousands out of pocket but hey that's the way it goes. Im not looking to value mine for sale, it's not going anywhere. When I bought mine the prices where this (as a guess): Average DE - 5000 - 6000 DE with nismo kit etc. 6500 - 7000 Now it seems that you can knock 1500 -2000 off those prices in just a year. I was wondering if people think it's likely to keep going down and down as rougher and higher mileage examples flood the market as time goes on.
  2. Is it just me, or is the price dropping quite rapidly on the zeds (across all variants)? When I bought mine a year or so ago the price was decent, and now it seems that the average price is a few thousand pound cheaper. All car values drop over time I know, but is there something I'm missing? Do people put the prices up when the sun comes out in summer? Haha. People's thoughts...
  3. I don't have much faith in dyno figures, or some tuners to be fair. There is one that is well known up my way, who tuned my old car and gave me quite an impressive figure on the day. I went back months later with some modifications that needed a map tweak. Along with a new private plate I might add. The guy recognised me, but i guess he couldnt get the details of my car up because of the plate and practically outright refused to give me my new figure until I told him my previous reg. From that day forward I haven't cared what a dyno says..
  4. On the subject, whats the best upgrades that the HR has? Higher redline. Is the engine easier to get power from n/a?
  5. I'm out, stag weekend away unfortunately. The first too meets were good though, oh what fun we had
  6. Can't fault your decision. Keep your eyes peeled for any that come up that have had a rebuild with the upgraded parts... you never know.
  7. Now I have to pull the stereo back out to change the bloody wiring! Haha. Thanks for the advice.
  8. I'd prefer a HR for the extra horse power and some of the other changes. I just couldn't justify paying the tax on it when I wouldn't b driving it much (my zed has done 137miles so far this year! And that was mostly from taking it for a service)
  9. +1, on another note I have seen a few for sale over the past months with the power bulge bonnet that's been put onto the de or de revup by previous owners. I have a power bulge bonnet on mine too so be careful not to see it and be confused. Twin air intakes under the bonnet is the surest way of checking I'd say.
  10. My apologies.. Was half asleep when I wrote that. To explain what I meant... Gen1 3.4 can have bore scoring and ims bearing issues The 2.7 doesn't have the common issues as far as I'm aware The gen2 3.4 can still have the issue (have a search on the pistonheads forum and find the horror stories) You can get the later 2.9 engine which doesn't have the issues and I think is an improvement from the earlier 2.7 issue. But from what I've read above they aren't that inspiring to drive?
  11. It's down to you really, but the gen 2 cayman s is not immune to the bore scoring issue either. The gen 2 has a 2.9pdk model which dont have the issue, like the earlier 2.7, as far as I'm aware. They just cost a bit more. Find a local porsche Specialist and nip down and have a chat. I'm sure they'd be happy to give you 10 minutes of their time and advice in exchange for you taking your new porsche to them...
  12. Good shout mate, seems like they may be more on the high performance side of things but definitely good to know of places who know the engines!
  13. So the cons to buying a cayman 3.4: 1. Small chance of engine problems And the pros: 1. A great drivers car 2. Good power and power delivery 3. It's a porsche 4. It's about 10k cheaper than a similar engined 911 5. It's not a boxter (no offense meant to anyone who has a boxter) 6. It's a porsche!! 7. Cheaper to maintain than you would expect (from what I researched) I can't see any real reason not to go for it. If you are really concerned then wait it out for a 3.4 that has been rebuilt in the past as they fix the issues when rebuilding. Bore scoring isn't an instant end to the engine. Usually there are telltale signs like oil burning and small amounts of smoke that worsen over time. You can have the bores inspected too. And there will be a difference in rebuild price if you were unlucky enough to develop the issue. It would be cheaper to rebuild a running engine with the start of the issue rather than one that has warped the bores, drank the oil and ended with piston seizure.

    Invidia vs Milltek

Wow this is a few years out of date eh! Have to say that I associate miltek with the German car scene where there seems to be a blueprint for what you must do.. Its for that reason alone I wouldn't buy one. It's the same thing what made me hate owning my type r as the Honda 'scene's was becoming the same. The zed guys don't seem to be like that. Everything from completely standard motors to fully rebuilt twin turbo's... and there all cool!
  15. I looked at getting a warranty from the AA, and believe it or not they have a list of porsche cars/engines that they will not warranty damage caused by 'bore scoring'
  16. I love the cayman, but I too was worried about the idea of an engine rebuild do to bore scoring.. There's always the 2.7, or have a look into things like the 'ims guardian' which supposedly detects abnormal noise form certain engine components, allowing you to address an issue before complete engine failure. Also have a look around for a porsche Specialist. When I was considering a 911 or cayman s I went to see a local Specialist and the rebuild cost was less than 8k.
  17. All good valid points. I suppose if it was fitted in the way then the mot tester/garage was right to disconnect it. I also see the sense in rabbitstews comments. Choice seems to be either have one fitted discreetly so it cannot be seen or find an alternative garage you would put 100percent trust in regardless. I think I am biased, I know of a mechanic sacked by bmw for powersliding and driving at speed a customers m3. All caught on a discreet dashcam.
  18. To go a little off topic... If the dash cam was removed for the mot as it blocks drivers view, would it not be useless in the event of an accident as the drivers sight was obstructed by the camera??
  19. To be fair that is a good point.. But he said it only records when ignition is on. So not all day whilst they are working on it. I'm trying to understand everybody's point of view here. They've disconnected a security feature the customer has put in, maybe could have been avoided by telling him first.
  20. The dash cam would only be recording whilst the car is running, not all day as the work was being carried out. Sounds suspect to me, but there's no proof of anything wrong being done. Some dashcams are hard wired in, like the blackvue so it wouldn't be as simple as 'disconnecting' it. They would have to take the memory car out of it so it didn't record. In short, no evidence no crime. Guessing from you posting this you aren't all that happy about the situation though. Any mechanics in the trade willing to offer an opinion????
  21. Yep, that £37 option doesn't actually let you write an advert either. You can tick some boxes to show the options and do a header, but to actually write an advert you have to plump for the £50 option. Pistonheads is about £11.99 for a month by comparison. Didn't realise PH was so cheap may have to use them if I ever sell up. I remember when it used to be free though
  22. I think: Autotrader: to buy/sell most cars Ebay: cheaper motors Pistonheads: modified or high performance
  23. Me personally I always look on autotrader. EBay just seems like the cat d market where you are likely to get stung. Autotrader automatically list a car if it's been a write off previously, the seller has no choice as it's done through the reg. Autotrader also have a complaints department which is good if you need help.
  24. Ive used auto trader and eBay to sell a car. Auto trader tends to attract more sensible buyers in my opinion. But the best package for 6 weeks is £50 or more. EBay is cheaper to advertise, gets loads of views but you also get a ridiculous amount of stupid messages. I put my zed on eBay last year, after 4 days the ad had 1300 views, 250 watchers and about a dozen messages asking if I would accept a stupidly low price (2-3k less than advertised). By day 5 I couldn't take any more and took the advert down. Decided to keep it and put some work in.
  25. Does using busters mod help with clarity at all would you think? I mean the standard bose isnt designed to work off of the low voltage preout, but high level input (speaker wiring directly from the head unit).. So would it affect sound quality as well as volume using low level input instead of high?
