  1. Are they from a flood damaged car? Pictures don't look healthy of the car behind!
  2. I've always wanted to do a scrapper rally- but timings never been quite right. It's amazing how much car you can get for very little money- i would suggest a late 90's/early 2000's Ford Puma 1.7. Brilliant chassis and dirt cheap.
  3. If keeping the z for a few years then the excess will be unlikely to reach £2k, but if the purchase of a GTR or similar is on the horizon....
  4. You have to view the situation in context- if spending a couple of grand on a preliminary report from an accident investigation company will save your insurance excess and rise in premium for the next few years, it is a worthwhile spend. If the preliminary report is entirely supportive you may just get the other side/insurers to back down and admit liability, or encourage your insurers to foot the bill for the investigation.
  5. Use a company like BDL Investigations- they are independent accident investigators who occasionally act for local authorities and the police etc. It will cost you money up front, but when they prove the accident to be the other parties fault, you will have grounds to claim 100% back from the other party. Your insurers will have no issue with you spending money of your own back, and would normally hold up the case in order to give you reasonable time (especially as your work could negate their having to pay out).
  6. Sorry for taking a relatively simple view of this topic but, this whole conversation is based on the potential possibility that the car could actually take in more air than the parameters allow for? All a performance intake/filter provides is an easier or cooler passage for the intake air into the system- it does not provide any means for the intake air to be inducted at any greater pressure than normal, so it could be argued that it would be impossible to induct air at an excessive parameter unless forced induction was adopted which would require a ECU tweak to operate. Surely the millions of £££'s the manufacturers spend on engine R&D couldn't be rendered useless by a £15 filter sold in Halfrauds?
  7. FACT- Driven carefully at motorway speeds (60-70mph) a 2003 coupe can go from Caterham to Leeds and back on less than a tank of fuel. 470 miles and the needle was between the red and 1/4 at the end...
  8. You can almost guarantee that if you get pulled by a traffic officer, they will go through your car with a fine tooth comb to find every single little thing that is wrong with it. Your £100 speeding fine would then escalate rather rapidly!

    Key issue

Definitely the battery- I had the same a little while ago. The battery is a (CR) 2016 type.
  10. Bit late, but have just joined the league (multiple scorgasm)
  11. Why not get an Amazon TV box and watch the racing on the american sports network? (You can also get UK Sky Sports, but i wouldn't condone taking an extortionate fee from the Murdoch clan by streaming )
  12. As long as it doesn't feature Suzi Perry! EJ is useful for getting the inside info, but DC is a bit plastic. It may be quite refreshing to see how C4 angle the coverage as the BBC format has hardly evolved over the last 10 years.
  13. Having previously worked in the estate agency sector- I would say that the agency has no right in putting the contractor in direct contact with you as it was they who instructed the contractor. Your contract is with the estate agents- a contract which you have (on the face of it) cancelled due to lack of performance. I would advise you to submit a claim (against the estate agent) in the small claims court to cover the loss of rent, council tax and any other costs which you have unfairly had to cover. As the estate agent will usually receive between 10-20% of any works they award to their 'chosen' contractors, they are personally liable to ensure that contact worked are carried out to the agreed standard and within the agreed time. They cannot simply chose to duck out of their obligations because they have failed to perform. The court will find in your favour on both counts.
  14. Did it- 4.15 am start and got home at 17.45. 590 miles with a mixture of 'empty motorway' speeds and hours sitting at 5mph. Total fuel use was 62 litres/ 43.26 mpg.
  15. Good to see crawlers on a motorway get a ban as well as those over the speed limit Balls. t'was 111.36 mph (0.288/mile in 9.36 seconds to be precise!)
  16. Assuming they are only prosecuting you for excess speed and not dangerous driving then I would look very carefully at how the law is written. I got prosecuted for averaging 11.36 mph on the M23 a number of years ago in light traffic, early evening and warm dry weather. As this was only classed as excess speed, i received a £150 fine, 0 points and a 56 day driving ban. If the yard prosecuting you in the same way, the maximum ban is 120 days, although usually it is capped at 56 days unless there are extenuating circumstances. Points can range from 0-6 points, the fine on the other hand is now means tested and can be up to £2,500. I would be inclined to say represent yourself if it is only for excess speed. A decent barrister is likely to charge £500-£750 for the "day" (30 minutes tops) and will only save you a couple of hundred quid on the fine or a couple of weeks on the ban.
  17. Based in Mayfair during the day but Caterham when i got the odd chance to see my house!
  18. As my sensible car is in for a service, I'm having to take the z on a little road trip on Tuesday- give me a wave if you see me. 04.30 start from Caterham, Surrey to Tarbock, Liverpool for 09.30. Then onto Scarcroft in Leeds for 11.30, Wetherby for 13.00 then the long way back to Caterham for (hopefully) around 5.30pm. All-in around 550 miles- anyone want to suggest what sort of mpg/ overall field usage i'll make it in?
  19. Mileage means nothing without knowing the service history behind it! I'd always prefer a car with full history instead of an ultra low miler.
  20. Post it up- I'm happy to have a look. I'm not a solicitor but run a national development company...

    Pulsating brakes

I've just had the same issue- turned out to be the front wheels and not been balanced correctly. Sometimes there was no issue with braking, although some times i had an 'ABS-like' judder. Sometimes the unbalanced wheels counter acted, sometimes they didn't. Cheap fix and all sorted.
  22. I'll happily take one of the bluetooth cradles if anyone knows of a module being sold?
  23. Would love to have this- Caterham based and had the Z in Redhill for the day today! I'v got a 2003 z GT with a backbox which would be lucky to see Christmas!!!
