  1. Well in the village of Anmer up near Sandringham but on the estate, Blade 350Z about 1045 this morning 3/3/15. I was taking the scenic route to work
  2. Morning All One of the downsides of my recent service was an observation I probably have a slightly loose baffle in the back-box. The mechanic said the exhaust is in good condition from the outside and its only noticeable when you pull away a a slight metallic rattle. It's not blowing at all. He said there were 3 fixes - ( He is an honest guy a not looking for a sale !) 1. Replace the back box ( its a Fujitsubo Legalis so may be pricey) 2. Cut open - secure and weld close 3. Crimp the box Any thoughts ?
  3. Just a quick note to make the North Norfolk Zedders aware of Joe Graver. Joe was recommended to me by another forum member Tricky Ricky ( kudos to you!) We are a little short of forum traders around here so been looking for someone to look after my pride and joy. Joe had my JDM in after the cam sensor episode. We discussed the work I wanted done and I supplied all the bits from Ewen at Clarke Motorsports which was P3, Diff oil change gearbox oil/molyslip and coolant change as a result of fitting the red Mishimoto coolant hoses I got from Buster last year. This was mainly a time thing as I have been putting it off for ages and ran out of time with the season starting in a few weeks. Joe was knowledgeable and everything that was asked of him plus a load of things I had missed such as a broken clip on the bonnet strut and sorting out my number plate holders and the pita job of screwing the cool air duct into the heats shield. His labour charges are lower than what I expected and inclusive of a strip, clean and lubrication of the brake system. Anything outside the remit was checked with a call. I wasn't surprised when he called me to say the car needed new tyres, I was aware they were pretty low on tread - What is didn't expect was him fitting new MPSS all around 225/245 for £566 inc balancing etc The car sounds good again, feeling at lot more responsive and the steering/handling is back to true Z pedigree. The brakes are top notch considering 10 days ago I was having the shudders So a quick thank you and plug for Joe - The car is due MOT in July and I know where it will be done. Anyone local to Lynn Joe's based at Jeff Sutton in Wellesey Road, Kings Lynn and 01553 765224
  4. Why does that make me think Mustang on initial look ?
  5. Just to warn of the attendees that with the current numbers they are not recommending doing a hog roast, so we will fall back to a carvery or buffet at this stage, we can review this. We need a minimum of 60 for the pig and we are currently at 35 if the people not resident at the hotel decide to attend So all those interested in attending please get your names down - appreciate this clashes with Jap Fest and the Supercar siege so explains why numbers seem to be down Rob

    Flare???

Flares have a relatively short shelf life - if you don't intend to use it I would try to get a dummy one if you are looking for the JDM effect. Mine didn't come with a flare and I don't feel a burning need to get one ( no pun intended!) Also make sure you don't get the Schermuly type. Most chandelry shops sell them but tbh if I had a accident and the car caught fire I would rest easier knowing there wasn't a minor explosive inside. Its not illegal to have one but they are subject to misuse laws under Maritime law. I think they are illegal in large gatherings of people so Footy matches springs to mind, the Galatasary fans popped a few last trip to the Emirates and that didn't go down well
  7. By a sheer twist of fate had to work from home today so during my lunch hour replaced the cam sensor and she started first time literally took 15 minutes and 10 of those was trying to get the old sensor out - what is it with Nissan and harness plugs ? Just for the record this was the successful technique 1. Slide the clip forward as far as it can go 2. Get a terminal or smallish flat head screwdriver and place in the slot in the middle of the green harness 3. Wedge screwdriver up against engine bay and pull back on harness carefully not using the wires 4. Sensor slides out easily Many thanks to all that helped - Cars going in tomorrow for diff/oil/gear/coolant change and finally the red Mishimoto hoses
  8. When I was in the mob we had an office in St Pancras station for the troops heading to Germany so apart from the noob tannoy announcement for Mike Hunt we also had these genuine ones Seaman Staines Captain Major Major Major Major Pickup ( REME !!!) Private Partz Never had a major disaster but a few general emergencies
  9. Have the same. Mine works when you pop the fuse in but I lose the sound to my head unit. I can take anyone anywhere for sushi in Tokyo no worries. Did consider getting the UK version - an Xtrail 2005 will fit. They go around the £250 mark on fleabay but understand the map disc wont take a postcode. but to answer the questions a. Fairly straightforward if you are confident with electrics. b. Expensive and not as good as TomTom or Garmin satnavs c. see above Summary - spend the money on a decent satnav or consider putting a tablet in the cubby
  10. Sweet will give him a call - been after a decent local mechanic for ages as the traders are all far far away and I have no leave left for the year already !
  11. Just booked my Flights to Singapore for year, However in the first trip we are off to Thailand for a few days around Easter and the second is the Singapore GP then 10 days in Australia.
  12. Yes please - my main issue is time - if it was summer no problems I could do it it one evening but weekends are pretty much committed with having kids etc so they wont fancy Dad swearing at the clips on the car ! I also need a few other things done so quite happy to cough up this time so the cars ready for the Shelsey Walsh meet 4/3
  13. Yep that's the plan but certainly won't be going anywhere near Nissan ! More updates after the weekend and will give this a go
  14. OK probably have to wait until the weekends as will be dark when I get back. TBH I have a few things that need doing so might just take it to a garage. Just out of interest I called my local Nissan garage. Ran the problem past them, They claim its probably a stretched timing belt chain so that's a first. Also said they would be happy to run a diagnostic at £96.00 Told them that I already had done that and had the codes and would that then tell you if it was a timing belt as I dont think theres a code for a streched timing belt ? . Then started to question me as to when the car was serviced last. Doesn't really fill you with confidence does it, pretty much dismissed the Cam sensor saying its mechanical not electrical.
  15. Is it worth clearing the codes as well before trying that ? I guess if the problem remains they will just pop up again.
  16. OK have the codes Looks like its the cam sensor so any comments please - Car would not start today although now have some cold start. I do have a Nissan garage nearby but would prefer one of the traders to work on this. I am fairly confident I can nurse it a bit further unless limp mode is telling me not to
  17. OK guess the all important code will give me the hands up. Will report back findings
  18. Evening All Decided to take the Zed on a run today - First proper one of the year. Needed a few bits for the house so thought I would drive the 2 odd hours to Ikea Nottingham. Fuelled up (Momentum) just after picking the car up and headed to Nottingham. No problems, even did the brake bedding in which cured the steering shudder. Parked up at Ikea got the bits and left about an hour later. My App radio was playing up so at a Red light in Grantham turned the ignition off and restarted as this has worked in the past. Car refused to restart. Was turning over but not catching. Thought may leave it but conscious that the battery on mine even newish isn't the best so called the RAC out. They were out in like 5 minutes. (impressed!) We both thought take the air filter off the pop charger see if it goes. He sprayed some ether up the induction pipe and started first time. Put the filter back on did the paperwork and headed off nervously for the last 60 odd miles to Kings Lynn. Up until the stop, no problems, no lights and no loss of performance. On the way back I now noticed the engine light was on as also the VDC off and SLIP warning lights. I tried to switch the VDC but could not get the light to go out. When I got home tried to restart and same problem wouldn't fire. OK the only thing I have changed (last week) was fitting a plastic snorkel that fits to the heat shield, the car has been up revved but would that make a difference to the chip/fuel air mix ? Also whats the link with the VDC/SLIP lights and the car not starting. I will try to get a code reader tomorrow and see what it says but a bit lost. The car has been supremely reliable for the year I have owned it so wonder if anyone else has a similar experience . Like i said on the way back it was fine no loss of performance but I don't think the VDC was off either Rob
  19. Great - thanks for the advice will do the bedding guide tomorrow pending discovery of a quite road!
  20. Morning all Just woken the car up up from its winter hibernation. Took it for a drive last week and noticed quite a bad shudder on braking especially at lower speeds. It seemed to reduce and was a lot less after the hourish drive. Is this a result of the cold/damp conditions on the disc or something I need to check out ? The car was covered and not used from Mid December to last weekend and was parked without the handbrake on. I'm thinking there may be some residue off the pads and hoping will wear off. Brake efficiency doesn't seem to be affected. The disk were a bit rusty but look ok now Been looking for an excuse for a disk skim ! Rob
  21. Did 2 tours of the Falklands and as Martinmac will know, we kept a small garrison on South Georgia, the guys would get resupplied every 5-6 weeks from one of the duty RN vessels but sometimes the Merchants would go. The guys used to talk about the whaling sheds being abandoned as is with tools etc still looking at they were just dropped. No insects or dust. There had been some interference with Argentinian scrappers after metal which was one of the issues of the war. I did have the chance to go down so was planning my R & R for a day on the ground (4 days by Sea OW) Intention was to visit Shackleton's grave but there was an problem as had to switch nominated vessels from a support vessel (Stena Seaspread) to the HMS Leeds Castle which is tiny so lost my berth. Shame really it is on my list of lifes opportunities missed
