  8. Race Report..Hamilton back in title hunt with Silverstone win After a difficult day on Saturday in which he qualified a disappointing sixth on the grid, Lewis Hamilton’s luck turned on Sunday as he fought his way up to second before inheriting the lead from team mate Nico Rosberg when the German hit gearbox difficulties on the 47th lap. “I couldn’t be happier guys,†Hamilton told his crew on his slow-down lap. “Sorry about yesterday!†The Briton’s determined performance regenerated his world championship challenge as he closes to within four points of Rosberg at the top of the standings, as once again the Mercedes were in a class of their own. This was, however, by no means a dull Grand Prix - in fact it was action-packed from the word go. On lap one there was mayhem as the field streamed down the Wellington Straight. Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen ran wide coming out of Aintree bend and as he tried to rejoin the track at speed, he hit a bump, lost control of his car and struck the inside barrier. The Finn’s F14 T was then thrown back across the track where it was narrowly missed by Kamui Kobayashi’s Caterham before being collected by Felipe Massa’s spinning Williams as he tried to take avoiding action. Raikkonen’s car was wrecked, and as the Finn limped away from his car, Massa crawled back to the pits on three wheels - sadly though the Brazilian’s FW36 had sustained too much damage, bringing a premature end to his 200th Grand Prix. Further back, Briton Max Chilton was lucky to escape injury when his Marussia was hit by a tyre which flew from Raikkonen’s car. The safety car was deployed immediately, but as the intensity of the damage to the guardrails was appreciated the race was red flagged so that repairs could be effected. Raikkonen was taken to the medical centre for a mandatory check-up; first reports indicated that he was okay, bar a badly bruised right ankle. Meanwhile, Hamilton had already leapt from sixth to fourth behind Rosberg and the McLarens of Jenson Button and Kevin Magnussen, having banged wheels briefly with Sebastian Vettel's Red Bull as they scrapped for position. After the race was restarted behind the safety car, the Briton soon scythed his way up to second, whilst behind him Williams’ Valtteri Bottas was on a charge of his own from 14th on the grid. The Finn would go on to pass the likes of Fernando Alonso’s Ferrari, the two McLarens and the Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Vettel - many of them around the outside at Stowe corner - as he charged into podium contention. Hamilton lost time to Rosberg at his first pit stop, but after deciding to put on the hard tyres (instead of the medium rubber his team mate was using), he closed in rapidly on his rival. Then, going around the Loop on lap 47, Rosberg’s car suddenly slowed, apparently stuck in gear. Hamilton swept by and from then on he was never headed. Behind Hamilton, Bottas moved up to second on a one-stop strategy, whilst Ricciardo and Button - both of whom were also one-stopping - fought all the way to the flag for the final podium spot. In the end Ricciardo, whose tyres were shot, just held on, denying the British fans a dream result and Button - who drove superbly - his first home podium in 15 tries. Further back, Vettel engaged in a thrilling and at times ill-tempered battle for fifth with Alonso, who had recovered from a stop-go penalty for overshooting his grid slot at the start. The two world champions fought tooth and nail for lap after lap, using every inch of the track, but eventually Vettel was able to take advantage of his slightly fresher tyres to move ahead of the Spaniard for good. Magnussen held on to seventh ahead of Force India's Nico Hulkenberg, who is now the only driver other than Alonso to score in every race. Daniil Kvyat drove unobtrusively but well to head Toro Rosso team mate Jean-Eric Vergne home for the final points. In the second Force India Sergio Perez recovered to 11th after a clash with Vergne took him off at the first corner of the original start, and led home Romain Grosjean’s Lotus, Adrian Sutil’s Sauber, Jules Bianchi’s Marussia, Kamui Kobayashi’s Caterham, Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus (which pulled to a smoky stop with a few laps to go) and Max Chilton’s Marussia which had had to serve a drive-through penalty for entering the pits illegally whilst the race was suspended following Raikkonen's accident. Besides Rosberg, Marcus Ericsson’s Caterham was a non-finisher, as was Esteban Gutierrez’s Sauber after the Mexican clashed spectacularly with Maldonado’s Lotus and then slithered into the gravel with damage. Massa and Raikkonen, of course, were casualties of the first start. So, after a thoroughly entertaining race at Silverstone, Rosberg’s lead in the world championship has been reduced to just four points. The German has 165 points to Hamilton’s 161, with Ricciardo on 98 and Alonso on 87. In the constructors’ championship, Mercedes now have 326 to Red Bull’s 168 and Ferrari’s 106.

  10. A word from Lewis on his win.. Winning in front of your home crowd is just the best feeling. We really do have the greatest fans here and thank you so much to everyone for your patience after yesterday. To see the support all around the track is just amazing. I said before that I'd never give up but it was a tough qualifying and I really needed to dig deep and come back positive this morning. A huge thank you to my family and all of the fans for pushing me on - I couldn't have done it without them. Nico ha d a pretty big gap at the beginning of the race but I kept pushing and was happy with my pace. After extending my first stint, we switched to the prime tyres and I honestly couldn't believe the pace that I had and was closing up to Nico. Of course, he then had a problem and I saw him pull over. It's a shame for the team and I never want to see a team-mate fall behind - I always want to battle it out - but I'm sure we will get to do it again in the future. It's been a rollercoaster weekend and to come away with the win after a day like yesterday is fantastic, so thank you to everyone in the team for all their hard work. I'm proud to have done it for them here - so close to our factories in Brackley and Brixworth.

  13. As the coffin was being lowered into the ground at a Traffic Warden's funeral, a voice from inside screams, "I'm not dead, I'm not dead. Let me out!" The Vicar smiles, leans forward sucking air through his teeth and mutters, "Too late pal, I've already done the paperwork"
  14. Here's how Lewis saw it.. I made a mistake today and pulled out of the lap when I should have kept going. It was a tough qualifying with the changing conditions and we got through most of it really well, until the most important part. It was my decision, a bad call, and that decided my qualifying. I'm so sorry to have disappointed the fans here today as their support has been fantastic and I'll do what I can to have a great race for them tomorrow. I need to have a start like I had in Austria two weeks ago and then do my best to get back to the front; you never know what might happen. It's difficult when you're just out of the car to express your emotions and see the positive but I'll go back to the team and my family now and we'll build up for tomorrow from there. Jensons Helmet to Remember his Dad John.

  17. Hamilton fastest at Silverstone despite early stoppage. Lewis Hamilton clocked the fastest time in Friday afternoon's second practice for the 2014 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix, despite a Mercedes engine problem ending his session with half an hour remaining. The Englishman set the pace on the hard Pirelli tyres with 1m 35.424s ahead of Silver Arrows team mate Nico Rosberg on 1m 35.645s, before Daniel Ricciardo caused a stir by separating them with 1m 35.511s on medium rubber for Red Bull. On the mediums, Rosberg then took the initiative with 1m 34.736s before Hamilton redefined the ante with 1m 34.508s. His pleasure was short-lived, however, as soon after he was forced to pull off the track at The Loop, not long after pulling out of the pits. By then the leading runners had moved into their race simulation work, however, so his time held up as fastest. Behind the Mercedes duo, Fernando Alonso continued to look at his menacing best with 1m 35.244s for Ferrari, as Ricciardo again led team mate Sebastian Vettel with 1m 35.511s to the German’s 1m 35.627s. Williams had a much better session than they did this morning with Valtteri Bottas sixth on 1m 36.016s, though later on his engine cover failed spectacularly as he sped down the Hangar Straight to Stowe. Then came the McLarens of Jenson Button on 1m 36.228s and Kevin Magnussen on 1m 36.299s. Kimi Raikkonen was ninth for Ferrari on 1m 36.554s as Jean-Eric Vergne completed the top 10 with 1m 36.583s. The Frenchman’s satisfaction, like Hamilton’s, was not to last as the left-front wheel of his Toro Rosso later worked loose; he was lucky to stop at the first corner before it detached itself. After his gaffe at Stowe this morning, Felipe Massa missed the first half hour of the session while Williams repaired all four corners of his FW36, but within two laps on the hard tyres he had gone a tenth quicker than team mate Bottas. Subsequently, however, he only cut down to 1m 36.671s on the mediums tyres, for 11th. Daniil Kvyat was 12th after surviving a Massa moment of his own at Stowe; he lapped his Toro Rosso in 1m 36.778s as Esteban Gutierrez made Sauber the final runner below 1m 37s, with 1m 36.951s. Lotus’s Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean continued to fight with their ill-handling E22s, and both had off-track moments; the Venezuelan was the quicker this time with 1m 37.064s but the Frenchman was right behind him with 1m 37.097s. Force India were also close-matched, with Sergio Perez 16th on 1m 37.236s and Nico Hulkenberg next on 1m 37.449s. Adrian Sutil managed 1m 37.520s for Sauber. Jules Bianchi suffered battery issues early on but was next up for Marussia on 1m 38.658s, just ahead of Caterham’s Kamui Kobayashi with 1m 38.671s. Marussia’s Max Chilton complained of excessive rear tyre wear as he clocked 1m 39.068s, whilst the final spot was taken by Marcus Ericsson on 1m 39.224s. The Swede’s session ended early as his Renault engine failed with sufficient force to blow a hole in the Caterham’s engine cover.
  18. Boils my pi55 to see this, it happens all the time to Zeds. WHY..!!!
  19. What a rip off... I would name and shame that garage. Slightly off topic..but still a rip off..!! Reminds me of when our boiler packed up last Jan and we have a maintenance contract with British Gas, so called them up and along came Sid in his van, looked at it for 5 minutes or less and proclaimed "YOU NEED A NEW BOILER" its dangerous and leaking gas so I have to turn it off and seal it..ITS -10 AND JAN.. We can fit a new boiler tomorrow for £1,450 - 00 but you need to decide now...!!! Called my mate whose brother is a heating engineer and asked him to give me a second opinion, he popped around, and within 15 mins had replace the thermal coupling and fired up my boiler cost £20 and a pint. I called the British Gas engineer back the next day and told him I would like to go ahead with the new boiler and could he pop around with the paperwork...!!! There are not many people I have thrown out of my house ..but he was one of them
  20. That's Stealers for you! By the way the service manager told me they charge different Hourley rates depending on how old the car is. Since mine is 10 yrs old the rate would be £48/hr, newer cars can go up to £65/ hr They seem to charge what they like. If they have to hang a sign over the coffee machine to say it's broken they put the hrly rate up by £10 That's 12,5 hours to drill out the sheared bolt..... :scare: Give me a break...!!!
  21. £600 -00 to drill out the old sheared off bolt.... :scare: ..What are they on...
