  1. That's what I was wondering. I guess you something like something like right angled brackets ? I'm beginning to wonder if I should just go the butchering the OEM speakers route and then if I want to remove the install just buying some cheapy 6.5" speakers to swap out the good gear.
  2. I've got a Pioneer head with 4v pre outs and it drives the OEM amps plenty loud enough. I've also got a SOny head that I've tried too that does have 4v pre out and it works ok but doesn't quite go as loud as it should. Cheers
  3. They are all keyed so will only go back into the correct hole.
  4. Interesting. I'm about to do a very similar job, but with a bit of deadening How many hours did it take ?
  5. I've just bought these JBL Power Series components for the front of mine to go with a Genesis Profile 4 amp. I'll be installing in the next few weeks so I'll let you know how they sound. I'm aiming for SQ rather than SPL but don't want to spend a fortune....though it's not looking good on the latter front. ie. head harness, facia, quality amp cables, rca cables, damping mats, glove box sub box, head, blah blah. Fun doing it though :-)
  6. Hi All Just a quick question. Do the standard 6.5" MDF speaker adapters/rings/spacers work for aftermarket speakers in the doors ? I don't want to butcher the OEM speakers as I might reuse them so am looking at adapters. This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Thanks
  7. How to fry your amp part one. This might show you what speaker you're dealing with but it won't give you the phase of the speaker. How to fry your amp part two. This modification botch is wiring the head speakers outputs straight into the OEM amp. Not what it was design to take, way too high. Yes I know others have done it but it doesn't make it safe.
  8. LOL just notice the original date on this thread, oh well recorded for posterity !
  9. A blinking air bag warning light means that there was a fault that isn't there anymore.
  10. Sounds interesting So did you use an off the shelf box or build a custom one ? Is the sub driver mounted where the old one was ? Any pics ? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks
  11. Hi Kris How did you get on with this ? I've been wondering the same thing as I don't want to reduce my boot space.
  12. At risk of being hounded off the forum........I reset the mpg when I picked up the car three weeks ago. It currently reads 30.8 I've done about 600 miles. This is what comes of having a wife just needs to look at a car to get sick. My daily commute must help as well, it's less than ten minutes in town, 15 mins at 60mph on a motorway. Roll my first trip to the highlands with the boys
  13. LOL would've been good if I meant(the mistake) that ! But hey I just wanted to know how they sounded. Cheerio
  14. On the subject of this brand. On my Fiat Coupe would, due to the poor ventilating alloys, would warp anything I put on them. That was until I found this brand, they stayed true until they wore out, excellent. Recommended.
  15. Right hopefully the snobs and pendants are back in their hole. OP You've wired these speakers into the OEM amps, I assume. The speaker specs say they need an minimum input of 40w rms. The OEM gear won't put out anything like that, aren't you struggling for volume ? Genuinely interested btw
  16. How does this work then ? It's not that I don't believe you.....well actually Turing the AC on when it's cold serves the function of condensing the moisture out of the air. This can helps clear steamy windows. Heat however comes from the heater matrix which is directly plumbed into the coolant. I reserve the right to be wrong in the case of the 350z, I've only just got one and haven't taken this bit apart yet
  17. What part number are these speakers ? I'm struggling to find them on the Halfords site for a gander Are they the same spec are the other Vibe 6.5" ? If so then they need a min of 40w RMS to drive them ie. Won't be any good for being driven by a head or the Bose amps. Just for everyone's info TaTa
  18. So what do they do to the handling then ? Ta.
  19. What model speakers did you use and do they fit without any mods ? Ta.
  20. So you're driving these with the original amp ? I was under impression that they can only cope with OE 1 ohm speakers....
  21. Absolutely. I'm not interested in a boom box, I did that 20 years ago with an old skool mini and half a dozen speakers etc. Personally I want clear accurate sound free of distortion at volumes loud enough to hear when driving.
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys. Ah the wire your speaker outputs into the low level inputs mod. This is obviously wrong and stands a good chance of melting the amps it's feeding, alright I suppose if you don't mind replacing them if it happens. Just 'cause it's old doesn't mean it should be rubbish, of course it is though. The head is first thing I'm replacing, mainly because I already have one. This isn't cheap though, I've just spent £70 on cables and a new fascia bit. It'll be interesting to hear what it's like with a different head. Though it has to be said I'm not sure how I'll drive the amps, I'm thinking about a couple of variable high(spkr) level attenuators. Conversely of course the biggest gain may be replacing the speakers but then as far as I can tell there's not many that'd fit in the space available. And of course the old amps may/wouldn't drive the new speakers. And the amps ? I'd be surprised it they where the weakest link, them seem to move the speakers anyway It's probably either a case of garbage in garbage out or that the speakers are distorting the signal.
  23. Thanks, added my name. Thanks for the invite, I'll see what I can do.
