  1. Not sure how the insurance company would know whether you'd left your roof down in the garage, in the event of a claim tbh. I used to leave the hood of my ahem Mx5 down in the garage for weeks at a time and it just seemed to collect dust like it was a magnet so I stopped...overnight isn't likely to cause any issues though, unless there's a mouse, spider or shiethawk in your garage.
  2. It will get colonised by spidey widys and then you'll never get a girl in the car again.
  3. In my job I gave to understand the workings of financial services including the work of the financial ombudsman. If you are absolutely certain the bank 'reassured' you that the transaction would be protected - I would say that you have only been 'negligent' in the transaction. If the bank warned you 'this all sounds a bit dodgy' and you still went through with the transaction the you would have been 'grossly negligent' The relevance of these semantics is that in the former - you would have some protection, whereas in the latter you wouldn't. The bank will almost certainly play a straight bat and try and swat you away. When you are confident that you have made your full case and they have had their final word - which will be in a written format - they will advise you that if you are still not happy you can approach the financial ombudsman. If you do this - the burden of proof is on the bank to prove that you were 'grossly negligent'. If they can't - you will win in most cases. If you were only negligent ie: if the bank really did tell you the transfer would be protected and you believed that, then you will almost certainly win an award and receive some, all, or all your money plus some compensation. Personally, despite all the undercover work being undertaken on here - which is very well intended - I believe that this is your best chance of getting your money back. Just for the avoidance of doubt, the ombudsman will not look at the case until you have exhausted all lines of complaint with the bank. Hope this helps.
  4. That must be an absolute gutter for the original poster. You'd like to think that he'd have some comeback on eBay - but I rather fear they will wriggle out of it in the slippery way they seem to whenever you have issues with sellers on eBay. The key will be the manner of payment. If it was paid on a credit card or paypal - as someone else said - you will have a good chance of recouping something, if you made a money transfer (Western Union) or even a bank transfer - particularly if it was to a foreign bank account - I regret that you'll have virtually no chance. I'm a naturally trusting person but 50 years in the world has made me very, very suspicious of everyone. It's taken a few leg lifts along the way though :-) to make me like this!
  5. First viewer bought Car brought £6 995 if anybody's interested.
  6. When in Rome - watch out for the Taxi Drivers. They'll rip you off as look at you. Like London but 4x. I got the usual 'round the long way' but then when I paid him he did a switcharoo on the note and tried to make out that I gave him a 10 rather than a 50 euro note - it'd have worked if I had had anything in my pocket except brand new crisp 50s straight out of the cash machine...oh, and an arm across his throat.
  7. If you have a fascination for history - Rome is superb and will easily fill a weekend without touching the surface. I'm going from memory here, so bound to miss something important, but try and see : The colosseum, the palatine hill, the forum, the Spanish steps, the trevi fountain, the Vatican (obviously), Victor Emanuel's memorial Barcelona doesn't have quite such a rich ancient heritage but is still very interesting with many quirky buildings influenced by gaudi - there's the Picasso museum with perhaps the best collection of picassos in the world. I didn't find the people in Rome particularly warm or friendly and a rip off is around every corner. And the general standard of food was surprisingly disappointing - unless I was massively unlucky. Barcelona on the other hand is much more welcoming and friendly and - as someone else mentioned the road known as las ramblas is one of the two main arteries of the city - the other being la diagonale. If you stay there I'd stay within easy access of either of those roads. You just have to be a bit careful in Barcelona too and not give too many opportunities to the low life to prosper! It may sound naff but the open top tour buses are great ways to see both cities and will give you a fabulous whistle stop tour of just about everything significant - you can then go back and mop up on anything you are interested in seeing in more detail. Look out before you go for vouchers - or even when you get there - as you can get some good discounts on the local rate.
  8. Two enquiries today off the pistonheads ad :-) And neither of them from Nigeria :-) in fact, one lives 1 mile away! Fingers crossed. If there's anybody on here lurking, waiting to snipe - I suggest you make your move or it could be too late!
  9. Thanks for answering all the questions for me, guys. I'll throw a stubby in if it's a deal breaker for anyone! I know I'm biased but it is a very good looking car - the wheels are Ford Sea Grey btw if anyone wants to copy them :-)
  10. I've had this for about a year but I'm just not driving it due to having a few other cars to go at including a 350Z roadster. So, after lavishing hours of time and cash in getting it to this standard I've decided to let it go. This is a Nissan 350Z coupe auto in sparkling Azure blue with black leather interior and newly refurbished, unmarked alloys. This is a high spec JDM vehicle in excellent condition both inside and out with climate control, Bose ICE, electric windows and mirrors. It's just Passed its MOT with no advisories and In the last year it has had a full service with K&N oil & panel filters, iridium plugs & millers oil. It has also recently had : aircon service inc new condensor, new disks and pads all around, UK front and rear bumpers, new boot struts, refurbished alloys, 4 continental tyres, carbon fibre bumper trim, refurbished wiper arms - so looks absolutely superb and is unlikely to need anything for some time to come. If you are a bit unsure about the auto box, don't be. There are plenty of positive comments on the forum about the automatic box which is excellent and has three modes. I believe it gives the car lightening responsiveness and is a massive improvement on the manual gearbox (I also own a manual 350Z). It's great around town but only needs a little encouragement to dart to the red line. The car is showing 60 000 miles, but it will actually be substantially less than that as it was converted from KM in 2010. It has an extensive history file and has all the manuals inc the leather wallet, the original Z mats and the full toolkit. Thatcham 1 immobiliser and alarm. I'm confident that the car will not disappoint, so don't be afraid to travel to beautiful East Yorkshire to have a look. Priced competitively for a coupe in this condition with low mileage at just <<<<<£6995>>>>>> - this is a special price for forum members, it's advertised for more on pistonheads. Plate not included. Sure, there are cheaper cars out there but if you factor in the price of getting them to this standard - where just about everything that could need replacing has been replaced - they won't look cheap any more! Have a good look at the photos but feel free to PM me for any specifics.
  11. My coupe feels much faster than my roadster - but the coupe is an auto, so that may be the determining factor. They're both pretty impractical and obviously both have two seats - so if it was a straight choice I'd take the roadster everytime. I've had my roadster for over 3 years now - which is the longest I've ever owned a car incidentally - the coupe just a year. I thought it made sense to get the coupe for the cold and wet days when the roadster wasn't ideal but I don't actually drive it much as I've got other cars that are better suited to the cold and wet! so, I think I am actually going to sell the coupe when I can get around to writing an ad to go with the photos I took when it was all shiny last week. I will of course give our forum members first refusal :-) The roadster however, will stay in the fleet for a while yet! Still loving it

    Dynamat

What a genius idea!!! So your underlay is just below the boot carpet? I thought perhaps putting it right down the bottom.touching the metal bodywork will stop.it at the source? Any pics? Yup, just sits under the carpet - tack spray keeps it in place. Made a big difference.

    Dynamat

I only had the flimsy mat and the road noise drove me mad. I was sceptical of the dynamat solution as I know it's properties having used it on ice installs. So, what I did was ... chatted up local carpet centre for a thick offcut piece of carpet underlay. Using the bootmat as a template, I cut the underlay slightly inside the lines (so you can't see it) and used a tack spray to make a tacky surface that helps stick it to the boot without it fully attaching permanently. I fitted it under the plastic trim where possible and sprayed the top surface with tack spray so the OEM boot carpet sits on top without sliding about. 90% improvement. Outlay - free. Time - about an hour.
  14. Personally, I'd match the wheels to the body - I think that would look real good with your colour. One pot of touch up paint fits all too!
  15. Hey. It looks great in red - I've never seen one before. This is mine...
  16. That will be a tricky one - had about 30 dents taken out of mine but not tried one there. As has been posted - if it's double skinned, they drill a small hole in an unobvious place to get the bar in and then seal the hole and put a small bung in. I'm sure there will be a way. I'd expect to pay about £50 to a pdr chap for that one as its a bit more hard core than the usual dings.
  17. Could be as simple as a warning that there's a problem with your brake light circuit - such as the bulb or brake switch OBD reader should give you a clue if you know someone who's got one.
  18. I'd be tempted to appeal to the sellers good nature - which it seems may well not exist - and ask him to make a contribution to the repair. In the face of a refusal I would take him to the small claims court - costs about £30 iirc - if you make your case well and he ignores it - which he probably will - you'll get an award and he'll be knackered for getting credit or a mortgage until he pays you. It'll be a long game, but there's a sweet taste in the knowledge that he will have to come around eventually. I've got a bloke who ripped me off on a car 'trapped' in his house because of the ccj he can't get finance for a new loan to move and he can't sell his house without paying me because I've got an attachment of the debt to his property. Cost me about £200 on top of my losses but I know that it will come back eventually :-)
  19. Imports are fine - as others have said. There's enough already here to choose from so you don't need to buy unseen. I've got one of each - I prefer the import in most respects (and its an auto) other than the brakes (non Brembo) and the audio equipment (poor).
  20. The airbag light flashing is probably a red herring - it is quite prone to flashing. There is a guide on youtube to cancel it if you can't access diagnostics.
  21. Seventh wonder of the world, PDR. Never fails to impress me. When I've got a grand and a few days to spare I want to do a course.
  22. Mine's got a hole in the same place - so go easy on your bro, it probably wasn't his fault. I'd be interested to know what causes it. I repaired mine with caravan sealant - it's a black, flexible, sealant, that never sets - so it doesn't crack. If I was brave enough I'd try and fuse it back together with a soldering iron or some heat source.
  23. That is actually a pretty good guide - particularly liked the comment posted at the bottom which showed that the muppet hadn't understood a word he'd read (or presumably not read).
  24. Would suit Hull City fan....but not this one!
  25. 'Innit' is my personal favourite. Closely followed by 'literally' and the previous mentioned 'like' They all affect me like scratching a blackboard with a fingernail.
