  1. It may depend on your cars age but I remember the Cougar's of a vintage used to suffer badly from this and mostly came down to scaling in the coolant pipes\matrix. It would take an absolute age to get the inside of car up to a decent temperature, and even then it was only ever temporary. Procedure was to: Drain coolant, flushing through with water at v.low pressure, then running a load of de-scaler around the system and leave over night, flush through loads more in the morning and you would find all sorts of horrible cack in the bucket\drain that had been blocking up the system. From then on you'd be toasty and warm for another 100k miles or so. Wouldn't recommend repeating that unless you know your de-scaler and pipes will get on well, but it is a driveway fix.

    Makes me mad

I think high altitude bombing would be a more cost effective fix for the problems around your neck of the woods.
  3. Good point on the spec - but it has the Brembo upgrade plus the bose\leather setup, and also claims folding mirrors as a cheeky bonus. No Nav though which is a shame as I was planning to the cubby for some form of carputer shenanigans. JDM -> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2002-52-NISSA ... 056wt_1396 No Rays on either of them - but a set for sale just down the road for a few £hundred. The answer is probably to get out to both of them and take a closer look, and negotiate prices with the sales bods - but I'm limited on transport so no easy feat. Heh or carry on looking and waiting, but I'm starting to get tired of missing good cars due to not being in the right place\time.
  4. To JDM or not JDM? That is the question. Two cars have appeared equal distance from me, both GTs at around 65k miles on the clock. UK 54 plate one in GM has been on the market for a while now, priced at £7999 ish. The JDM is at 52 plate and looks to have been imported around then, priced at £5990, in silver. Both trade, both claim a full service history. Insurance quote difference is only in the region of not very many £s so not a consideration really. For £2k difference it is hard justifying the UK car to myself, but I am actually torn between the two. Does anyone care to make my choice harder or easier?

    Insurance Rant

Simple solution - seek additional compensation from the party that had liability for the accident to the tune of additional insurance premiums over 3 years from the incident (think that is how long you need to declare them for).
  6. If you can get a table.... http://www.rickstein.com
  7. I think we have a new contender for the optimist of the year award. Although if you need a relatively new engine and it somehow avoided all that carnage you could be onto something with significant haggling. edit: ... and they've removed it already! Jeeze louise. Is was wrecked though, £4k price and not a single part had avoided being shattered. Looked like it had a trolley wheel embeded in the windscreen too :\ edit again: Found it on Ebay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-LHD-Niss ... 252wt_1139 Not even a GT pack
  8. Lexx...I thought this was the idea of a forum to help other members with their questions and queries? Thing is it is all down to the esoteric nature of the vehicle.. I just wanted to say that. However to help clue people in to the nature of the car you need a decent advertisement. A good write up, and plenty of detailed photos will help move it so much faster.. Maybe. Get a Photobucket account or such, and a decent camera and get plenty of high res photos online so people can see what they could be buying. Number of shockingly written ads, or poor quality photos is surprising given the condition the market is in. Price wise, £7k to £8k at a guess, but be prepared for people to negotiate down.
  9. I've been giggling at that one for ages.
  10. No you will need to sell both. Welcome along. Has anyone produced a Dialysis mod yet? Welcome along, they're a friendly helpful bunch.
  11. A good thing I found with some bigger insurers - add two or three named drivers who have their own cars, ideally older and female with a clean record. I added two x pensioners to one quote and it plummeted by about £300
  12. You need to work a 350Z into the picture somehow, even if just in the background (with the website window sticker?).
  13. Its allegedly the right one, SATA is generally used in RAID. I nicked the link from here anyway: http://forum.tabletpcreview.com/toshiba/1867-fresh-windows-install-portege-m400.html there might be more info buried in that thread.
  14. Wouldn't the missus object? I'm willing to lend morale support with your new found fame and glory if you need it, and just happen to specialise in handling scantily clad females. Also happen to know a retoucher and photographer who could probably organise a stack of models if needed, although I don't know many that would be keen on Nuts.
  15. Easy peasy. Allegedly http://askiris.toshiba.com/ToshibaSupportSite/search.do;jsessionid=F75FF702CBBEE2140C9D64AD59FC6281?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1334715xml&sliceId=&dialogID=10542044&stateId=1%200%2010540080 has the set of drivers you need. Then you need to grab yourself a copy of nLite. 1) Install nLite 2) Extract drivers into a folder 3) Point nLite at original XP ISO file 4) Point run the integrate drivers option - point at any file in the extracted drivers, it will add them all 5) Build new ISO Might want to look to see if there are any drivers on the Tosh ISO too that you might need, like for the touchscreen interface etc. Add them all to the above. Job jobbed Job jobbed.
  16. You weren't born around 'boro were you?
  17. My 'street' is a complex of four blocks of apartments with its own car park, most of the owners are relatively affluent in comparison to some areas - I can see a Lotus Evora parked outside (as well as some ancient Micra). None of it can be seen from the street. Insurance quotes to park here are way higher than when parking on the neighbouring road, where we can't see or look after our cars, has plenty of foot traffic, and is a narrow thing oft used by locals as a short cut to avoid a busier junction. I guess there is just slightly less chance of someone opening a car door into yours, but that is about it.
  18. I was under the impression that you could take it anywhere - so long as the independant used genuine Nissan parts, then the warranty would be unaffected ........ is this not right ? That is pretty much the sum of it yep, as it the practice was found to be anti competitive. Of course they may play harder to get but ultimately you are free to use independants even under warranty as long as Nissan parts (and I guess related techniques for said parts) are used.
  19. Well that was disappointing Appreciate it has done a fair distance and is 8 years old, but it has had a hard life. Couple of things, some pants some not so. a) Front bumper stone chipped to heck and then some. Poor paint restoration on two half 5p sized chips on the bonnet - bubbled c) Chips all over wheel arches, light scratches. Plastic trim under front bumper was coming away, been grounded quite badly by the look of it. d) What looks like over spray on wing mirror arms (on plastic between mirror body and car). Plastic window sills on doors were loose, flexing up. e) Paint flaking from between some panels - although all appeared in line so not sure what might have caused it. Paint flaking on the bonnet lip (inside and out). Fresh oil splashed over the engine too - although had only recently been serviced, why bother topping up the oil? f) Interior was chipped/scratched in all sorts of nice places g) Mixed tires - rears were Good Year 'EfficientGrip" and the fronts were "sport pro" or such that I've not heard of. Oh and some of the locking nuts were rusting. Ultimately though - the salesman was pants. A good one could have discussed these points and asked further questions, he just wasn't interested. When I first asked to look at the car, his response was "Are you xyz?" (someone on their way up from London). I wasn't "I don't do test drives with it, I'd be out all day with it otherwise given what it is". Unlocks it from the office window and lets me crack on poking all over - totally ignored. Only gets interested when I go back in to look at docs and he realises I'm from out of town. Shame as the service history looked good, 2 indies but at least 6 most recent ones were Nissan. I could have pressed for a test, or for them to at least start the engine but given the state of things above who knows what condition the mechanics really were. I won't be going back in a hurry.
  20. I'm currently Zed hunting and agree with the consensus, a huge wad of receipts and invoices for services etc (especially from a good inde) will go further than a book full of Nissan stamps and very little else. Anyway, the money you save will no doubt far outweigh any potential part-ex value.
  21. Damn, why for goodness sake do you have to be all the way over in Leeds? I will be there for a stag do in two weeks time, but I bet this has sold by then.
  22. Does it have to be strictly diesel? I don't know about the distances it will be doing but commuting to work shouldn't see hypergalactic mileage. Given the age of a car at £1k I would wonder about how much maintenance the diesel engine would require in comparison to petrol. How about a Ford Puma or Cougar? Both are better looking than their counterparts (Mondeo and Fiesta respectively), and dirt cheap to buy. Alfa 147s and 156s are beautiful and there are plenty in this territory, you need to check out their service history fairly well but the historic reliability issues are always overplayed and no one I know that runs them has had any significant issues. The Fords would be the best in reliability stakes, with the Puma the cheapest to run.
  23. Car can be found here. It is certainly a buyers' market for this kind of thing, but it seems to have all the right ticks in boxes at the moment.
  24. Hey folks, Going over to a dealer near Reading tomorrow to take a peek at a cheap looking 100k Zed. Apparently got 11 stamps in the service book, some or most of them from Nissan (last one was only about 2months and 2k miles ago... hmm I wonder why the last owner binned it after that?). They offer a free service and MOT before handover, so might ask if they can change the plugs if not been done recently. Is there anything else to look out for? Something on the private market with less mileage would be within budget but this is a) local and a good starting price with a dealer, subject to shameless haggling.
  25. Yowsers. On the bright side it is a business opportunity for you and at least they can engage in a bit of a technology refresh.
