  5. Vauxhall do a chip for the vxr astra that gives an extra 50bhp for less than that. I have a buddy who's running 310 out a vxr with a few minor upgrades and a remap. No chance!!! Its the astra vxr with the black grills. Vauxhall deliver them with 265bhphttp://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/2840121.htm it's similar to that one, Its had a different turbo and custom manifold and mahoosive front mount intercooler put on it along with tuning and dynoed 310@fw. Rs tuning on here had one in when I was down and it dynoed 367 just before mines went on. Edit meant to add the one at rs was running on low boost as it kept getting knock when running in the boost. They were saying it should have dynoed well above that. EVERY astra VXR has exactly the same power when stock. The Nuremburg edition, The racing edition and finally the Artic edition all have the exact power as the standard car. The only difference is cosmetic. Except for the nurenburg which come with a remus exhaust as standard. The car simply cant deliver any more power in the first 3 gears, unless you fit a diff and that dosent help much. As far as the torque steer is concerned it's bad! Understeer is a problem but not as bad as people make out. I would Sh**e myself in the corners before the car would lose traction in the dry.

  7. Ive owned 2 astra vxr's from new and a second hand vx220 turbo second hand. My first astra vxr was a 2008 arden blue with 18 inch wheels and the second was a 59 plate saphire black with 19 inch wheels. The car is very fast in all gears, pulls like a train in 6th gear. It is also really good on fuel, around 30mpg. It costs the same to service as a basic corsa around £120 first year and £180 second year. My first astra was running stage 3 with around 290bhp. Panel filter, Miltek turbo back 3 inch Zorst, Bottom mounted intercooler and superchips remap on bluefin device. after 2 weeks i had to take it back and pay £1000 to fit a LSD as it simple couldn't put the power down. Wasnt much better afterwards. Second astra was stage 1. Panel filter iradium plugs and stage 1 remap. this smothed out the original mapping on the car and sorted out some of the torque steer. Vauxhalls maps are far to aggressive on the VXR! I dont think you would get more bang for you buck anywhere and I know for sure that it would keep up with my Z. But for the 3+ years I owned them, the only people that commented on them or gave them a second look was the local young team and the needs. Ive only had my Z for over a month and everyone admires it and has something to say about it (all good). The reason why i sold my VXR was that as soon as it dropped below 10k to own one all the local A holes had them. Also the interior is very, very poor. My drivers seat needed recovered after 3k miles and started rattling soon after. Keyless entry system on cars after 2007 is excellent. The new astra VXR looks good as it expected to have around 300bhp and vauxhall may fit the adaptive 4WD system from the insignia VXR.
  8. you want to powder coat the gaskets??? Does that make a difference?
  9. Thanks for the advise mate. I went to a local specialist, who is very good and really knows there stuff. They quoted me £250 to change both gaskets and to change the CV joint as i have the clicky axle problem also. If i supply the parts.
  10. How difficult is it to change the gaskets or is it a job for a professional?
  11. Ive had a burning smell when i put the foot down. Had it checked and ive got a slight oil leak from the rocker cover and i think its dripping onto the exhaust. I was told that i need to change the rocker cover gaskets. Anyone had this problem? Nissan said it would involve about 4 hours labour to replace the gaskets. Does this sound ok?
  12. Ive had 2 astra VXR's recently my first one had oem 18's and it was great. Second one had oem 19 inch anthracites. I didnt notice any difference in performance but the ride on the 19's was terrible. IMO far to many potholes nowadays Or maybee i'm just getting old
  13. I'm with more than! I insure my Z with them with full NCB (10 years plus). I bought a new corsa for the wife and insured it with them with my wife as the main driver and me as a named driver. They mirrored my NCB onto the corsa policy. Really good price £505 for the Z and £220 for the corsa and its brand new.

    1st Gear

What you think of your panel filter mate? I'm getting a new zorst in june and i was thinking of dropping a panel filter in as well. Was thinking about an ITG, HKS or the likes.

    1st Gear

Alrighty, I'm looking for some advice. My car is a 2004 Gt with no mods. I'm having a problem changing into first gear mainly when my car is cold. When my car is running and stationary i have no problem going through the gears. When i'm slowing down and i try to downshift into first gear ( below 5 mph) its really hard to put it into 1st. I sometimes have a problem going into second as well. All other gears are perfect. Problem is not as bad when car warms up! I was thinking its because revs are higher when car is cold?? Just had a major service with gearbox/ diff oil changed with proper grades of oil.
  17. I had the SRI 150bhp astra 5 door XP pack before my VXR and it was really good, have a look at the 888 model on 5th gear, racing the astra vxr.

    Custom Exhaust

Decided to go for a custom exhaust as I cant afford the Miltek and although the scorpion sounds great i dont like the tailpipes. Went today to have a chat with Simon custon exhausts and he couldnt be more helpful. Only problem i now have is to much choice! I was going to have a similar set up as stock but in stainless steel, but after talking to simon he may have convinced me into a dual exhaust. Options are Y pipe, mid pipe with silencer and back box with silencer 2.5 inch pipe (similar as stock system) . Or, Dual pipes from cats with silencers and then another 2 rear silencers at the rear instead of one big silencer 2.25 inch pipe. Any opinions/advice as i dont really know the pros and cons of both.
  20. I got a quote from them today aswell, same price. Thought they were a bit expensive! They weld the whole exhaust together in sections I think. I would prefer it if most of it was mandrel bent tbh, I think joints= weakness. Only my opinion! They have got a really good reputation though. Yeah I thought it was expensive too! Your correct bout the weld in sections deal as that's what my old zorst was like! Never had a problem with it! Lifetime guarantee like everyone/everywhere else! Go for an aftermarket zorst and spend your change on some other mods! TBH Simon custom exhausts is making me a Y section back fitted for less than a Scorpion supply only! For an extra £120 he'll include the Y section aswell. That's a good price! Think I'll be paying them a visit to build me a Y pipe! I'm going tomorrow to see what excactly I want. I'll keep you posted mate.
