  1. Thanks guys

@davey_83 Im tempted to remove it and give it a polish. Kinda want to do some engine bay dress stuff. some colour coding/theme. Not sure what colour.

Im going for a bit more aggression on the Zed, continuing with the black/gun metal theme:

    Before:

    X3lCSfR.jpg

    After:

    V2harGr.jpg

Medium tints on rear window and quarters, rear lights and turn signals. Then it was time to fit the gloss black badges to compliment the look. The badges came of easy enough with some heat and a fishing wire, the remaining glue was harder work.

Im really loving it how it came out

Tints were done by Xclusive Tints in Forest Gate, very happy with the service. Badges are from Asad here on the forum.

    Im thinking bumper tuck next

  2. @alexgv1 No problem, as mentioned you want to employ that method anyway.

I had lots of things i wanted to do too. Just break it down to one job at a time. eg. when you wash the car next time, try and do the clay. The time after, do the polish. The 3rd time you wash do the sealing. Doing it all in one hit can be a bit daunting.

Its hard work but so rewarding: A coat of Zymol carbon went on today.

  3. Another Bilt Hamber user here. Its regarded as one of the best. However, no snow foam is going to completely lift dirt.

Think of it like this, your attempting to remove as much dirt as you can before doing a 'contact wash'.

Pre rinse, decontamination (iron/bug removing sprays) and snow foams are there there to remove as much as you can before your mit comes into contact with your paint. The aim being to reduce swirling/micro scratches as much as possible.

So yes, gotta have the right expectations for what a foam can do as you say

  4. Cheers guys!

It wasn't bad at all, but i used Dodo juice Born slippy, not just water as recommended. I knew i would be doing a full detail so i wasn't worried either way, but i needed the heavier clay as it was pretty contaminated. Gun metal grey is forgiving compared to gloss finishes though.

Tip:If u do use the regular clay, have a small pot of hot water and when u cut a piece of the block, put it in the water to warm it up, makes it much easier to shape.

I was pretty happy with these too, previously used Menzerna which was fine. But these were even better imho. The H802 has a great cut, long work time and leaves a surprisingly glossy finish for a compound. The M201 easily removes any hazing and light scratches.

Edit: Oh and i used Lake country yellow heavy cutting with the H8, and the black finishing pad for M2

    3w88a5e.jpg

So cleaned/polished and sealed the glass to make sure it doesnt need a wiper

Used some glass polishing pads on the DA

  7. @davey_83Yea the wheels still look current after all this time, haven't dated at all. Plus they are super light despite the size. Suspension is stock AFAIK, however i think something was done before i got it as it seems lower than standard.

I have got some engine bay pics as it happens. Did a thorough clean and dress the other day

Turbo install isnt super obvious (apart from the recirc valve). Nothing major going on in there dress wise, but im hoping to change that a little. Open to ideas..

  8. Recently gave it a full service. (Jan 2020)

    Replaced belts and tensioner pulleys

    New oil and filter

    Brake fluid

    Diff Oil (redline)

    Gearbox oil (redline)

    Jan 2020:

New Pads (Ferodo DS2500 iirc, had them laying around for ages)

New Brembo discs all round (Euro car parts discounted, £300 all round!)

Had an idling problem where it would stall on warm startup unless throttle was blipped a few times. Fixed by removing and cleaning intake, MAF and throttle body

Recently fixed electric seat buttons that didnt work, replaced both passenger and driver (thanks Alex)

  9. Refurbed my alloys a few months back after 10 years + of use

    Before

    EkssaTy.jpg

    After:

    kpvpueG.jpg

Other than the curbing they had faded (UV damage i guess) and just looked old in general. Look brand new now, pretty happy with the job done by Creative wheels in South Woodford

  10. Detailed the car a couple weeks back. (lockdown!)

Used a DAS Pro DA and some Koch chemie H8 02 cutting compound and M3 02 finishing to fully correct the paint. This was after a full decontamination using Bilt Hamber Korrosol and their regular clay, with Dodo juice born slippy clay lube. Sealed with poorboys EX-P.

    (Im into my detailing).

    Before:

    After correction:

    After sealent:

Took the better part of a few days. Including Cleaning and conditioning seats and interior. Treating all seals and plastics.

  11. So i thought it was long overdue.

I bought my Import 05 Gunmetal Z with Alezan leathers in 2010.

First thing was the N1 Nismo kit all round (after the APS Twin Turbo kit of course)

And shortly after Volk Racing CE28's 19". 9.5 Front 10.5 Rear +22 offset

    oPIVR7C.jpg

Under the bonnet is an APS Twin Turbo kit, including true dual exhaust (3") and downpipes (4" into 3.5")

    Obligatory dyno @ .4bar:WC36K6B.png

Its a serious bit of kit, especially back then:

    vcByaz1.jpg

Still running strong after all these years

Im also running the uprated higher capacity APS sump.

Its been regularly serviced and looked after by myself, or a good local garage when needed.

  12. Put some ONR and water in a bucket and a bunch of inexpensive microfibers in there too.

Make up a solution of ONR in a spray bottle. Then one panel at a time, first spray on your solution and then just gently wipe (no pressure) with a microfibre from your bucket. If it needs another pass, redip/renew the towel from the bucket. Change towels often so your not dragging dirt across your paintwork.

ONR is well very well lubricated and lifts the dirt of the paint, its pretty safe, and if getting out a jet wash and buckets etc is not possible/inconvenient, Its probably the safest way to go.

    Hope its helpful

  13. Hi

Recently moved to the area. Looking for a good garage to take my Zed to. Needs service and perhaps clutch and some other bits n pieces.

Any recommendations for a trustworthy place in East/North East London would be much appreciated. :)
