  1. Same here, keep hoping its a bad dream. Pete
  2. They'll only call an election if they think they are certain to win, ie with Corbyn as leader of The Labour Party. If Labour replace him with someone who isn't stuck in the 1980's then no election. Pete
  3. You're right, one of the problems with The England team is their complete lack of interest in representing their country, you feel they'd rather be on the beach. Pete
  4. Interesting side competition to see who has the most ridiculous haircut and who can completely cover their arms with tattoos Pete
  5. See my post above. This petition was set up by someone in the leave camp before the vote who felt certain they would lose. We all have to accept that no matter what the result was there will be people on both sides who are not prepared to accept it. I personally am devastated with the result. Many reasons, economic chaos, How the rest of the World will see us, we used to be a beacon of fairness and tolerance, the decline and breakup of what was once a great country. If it all goes wrong then rejoining would probably be very disadvantageous for us, we'd have to join the Euro, the Schengen zone and would lose many if not all of the special conditions we have right now, In other words it's a non starter. The political vacuum that we have right now is alarming me as well, with both parties at civil war, I just can't see any good coming from this. Pete
  6. I had to laugh when I saw this. http://news.sky.com/story/1717815/second-referendum-petition-was-set-up-by-outer Pete
  7. Gone up over 120,000 since then, I would guess that it would need to reach 10 million before we get any reaction from politicians. I'm not sure where exactly this is going, with both of our major parties in meltdown this is not going to have a positive effect on the £ and stockmarkets. Investors simply won't invest until this gets sorted out and it's quite possible that they will decide to invest elsewhere. It's a complete and utter mess and a festering sore that won't go away. Pete
  8. About 1,000-1,500 people a minute are signing this. Pete EDIT, Wow!! just timed it for a minute, 3,200 new signatures.
  9. Airbus assessing situation, Toyota too. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/business/business-news/eu-referendum-airbus-assessing-impact-11519395 As far as the age voting goes, our system is one man, one vote, I don't know of anywhere where votes are weighted by age. Pete
  10. I thought that The Norway model included free movement? In any case any products that we sell to The EU will have to comply to EU regulations/standards. The Swiss model is very similar. So will The EU make us a special case or will be able to negotiate a Norway style relationship without free movement? A lot of experts say it could go 2 ways either they need our business so badly that they'll offer us a good deal or they'll punish us to dissuade other countries from leaving. The other issue is what happens before we actually leave The EU, will there be an overwhelming rush of migrants getting in before our doors are locked? Or will they think that The U.K is no longer an attractive place to come to? Pete
  11. Higher prices for sure. At the back of my house is the main Scania dealer for Wales and the North West of England. Now we no longer have our own truck manufacturers we have to buy in from abroad. Scania is a Swedish company with manufacturing plants all over Europe except of course in The U.K. Now, if the £ continues to decline Scania trucks (and the same goes for M.A.N and DAF) will become more expensive to buy, so it follows that the hauliers who buy these trucks will pass that cost onto us, the consumers and just to make it into a double whammy they'll pass on the almost certain increase in fuel price too. The thing is, we no longer have our own heavy industry that we had 30/40 years ago, we are mainly reliant on foreign companies both from Europe and outside of it. The companies that are the largest employers around here are Airbus, Toyota, Kimberly Clark, Brother, General Motors, Sharp all foreign owned. I'm afraid that lots of voters especially the older ones who voted in droves to leave will think that we can return to the so called good old days and everything will be alright as if by magic and older voters in particular have a highly inflated opinion of The U.K. We now have to hope that foreign companies will still invest here, they will do this not based on sentiment but on the profits they can make. I've heard people say, including Farage on a visit around here, that they will still need wings for the A380, well of course they will, but I pass the assembly line most days and believe me they could move production to Tolouse within a couple of years if they want to, the place is like a giant meccano set. Pete
  12. And that would have been the case if Remain had won too, leave would have just carried on until they got their way. Pete
  13. They should all accept some responsibility but Cameron called this referendum, Corbyn, Farron weren't even leaders of their parties at the time. One of the things that struck me was that many labour voters from working class areas voted to leave and these will be the hardest hit when the recession really takes hold. Turkeys voting for an early Christmas. Surprised that Wales in general voted leave when its done relatively well from The EU. It will probably mean the end to free prescriptions here plus thousands of job losses, Caroline's job for example is EU funded. Anyway, the people have spoken and everyone will have to face up to the short term consequences, we just have to hope that in the longer term things will sort themselves out. Pete
  14. BBC since 21:55, might channel hop shortly. Pete
  15. 52-48 for remain I'm reading. Pete
  16. Just been to vote. Very busy at the polling station, I first voted there in 1970 and have never seen so many people queuing to vote. Of course the absolutely beautiful day we're having up here helps Pete
  17. Something that I must remark on. Why are those who wish to leave known as Euro Sceptical when they should be called Anti European. The definition of a sceptic is , Someone who is "not easily convinced, having doubts or reservations". Does that sound like Nigel Farage or John Redwood to you Pete ,
  18. I was once in favor of a United States of Europe but that was in the 1980's. My thoughts then were what would it be like if America consisted of 50 different countries, who would be the worlds policeman? I daresay that many States could easily survive as countries, Texas and California for sure. Texas still has a sizeable majority who think of themselves as Texans, not Americans. However, I don't see a united Europe as a possibility for hundreds of years,if ever, too many cultural and language differences, something that wasn't a great issue in America's case. Pete
  19. Hopefully, you are right, but if the £ loses loads of value we'll have an interest rate rise to stabilise its value, that'll mean a mortgage rate rise. I'm certainly not saying that's going to happen but its a possibility. In fact some people would welcome an interest rise, people with no mortgage and savings like me. Pete
  20. Plenty of discussion in our household this week, Caroline is still undecided and I'm voting to stay in mainly for 2 reasons. Don't want to see a breakup of The U.K and I'm really worried about the financial consequences, better the Devil you know I suppose. My daughter even texted me this morning asking which way I was voting, first text I've had off her this year As a democrat I'll accept the result and get on with it but I fear that if we don't get a decisive remain vote then this will drag on for years and years. Pete.
