Enough said I also find what you have said racist....

Enough said Oh I remember you, 62 year old golf freak who left home address on website

Enough said Whats that supposed to mean? What did you edit out also? My blood runs blue mate. British through and through.

My dads family are irish, my mums polish, my surnames French.

Electric or gas?

Go one then? you tell me:) Im sure the last time I was out his zed with 600rwhp was 3 or 4seconds faster round Knockhill. His is a convertible and that was with the roof down. It will now be running around 700 whp with bigger turbos. Not been overtaken in his zed by any car yet while I've been out on track with him.

I didn't see any difference in mpg after fitting decats. Are you supposed to run a throttle controller after a remap? Most people seem to get rid of them afterwards.
-
this is the reason you should always have the car re-tuned after doing major mods. Get the car booked in at abbey motorsport, rs tuning, or horsham for uprev tuning

+1 lighter the car is, the longer the tyres and brakes will last in comparison to a heavier competitor

Can you pm me your brake recommendations, I'd find it interesting to see what you consider the best options. Okay, so Ferodo DS2500 - £177 p/set (demon tweeks) I reckon you can lose at least 100k's with seats, inner trim, headlining, boot trim, plastic stuff, some of the centre tunnel and all sound deadening. Especially if you then remove aircon, fit a raceweight battery (£170, driftworks Braille battery) and cut excess brackets out from rear of car and engine bay. If you're really intense, you can single-skin the bonnet too, and possibly remove some metal from the boot. I suspect the front and rear bumper bars can be removed/trimmed too. Do you not agree? Don't believe you with the engine - especially after what others have said. Service car - oil, plugs, filters before 1st track day. Change oil every trackday or two from there on, and make sure it's correctly circulated every time you do an oil change (a mate made a mistake with this and killed his shells once, I'm never doing the same!), warm up and cool the engine down properly, then I suspect it'll last pretty well. R888's are £190 p/tyre on Camskill upto 235 17" and 18". A 235 R888 = pretty frigging sticky! Add the price of a pop charger and a 2nd hand exhaust (or £100 for say, longlife to create a decat pipe (because I have a mate who works for them). I agree there're better track cars out there, but I know Booner, so it's more a case of picking something he likes, and is practical (to a degree). Go for it then Remember r888 225/40/18 front, 245/40/18 rear. The bonnet weights next to nothing anyways so I wouldn't bother with that as its aluminium. The plastics don't weight that much unless you remove the dash also. I'll let you know the total weight loss of mines soon

Some insights and advice please

If its been regularly service and not been abused t's a very good car for the money regardless of year -
+1,000,000 I have great fun in my car on track and although not the fastest I love every minute of it and also the look. Alot of the other cars mentioned are ugly as fook and even if faster id still feel inferior to the BMW m3's and merc slk's etc. in the zed I still hold my head high on track knowing I'm not driving a shed

OK, to be more specific I currently own a 350Z on coilovers with basic mods and brand new RE050A's, a standard MR2 Roadster, a heavily modified 400hp S13 200SX and a GTI-6 with a few choice mods. I just listed them in reverse "fun on track" order, the top three are interchangable depending on where you are driving The lap times dont make a blind bit of difference to the enjpoyment when you are out there. You could also buy the top three all together for less than Id sell the Zed for. Each to their own and all, the Zed is great, capable and rewarding and I loved taking it round Donington in the summer, but as someone with a fair amount of experience of a lot of different cars I wouldnt be recommending it as a track only car. You known mr lizard is a competition race driver sponsored by abbey?

+1 on classical music. Piano solo playing a bit of classical is supposed to stimulate the brain. I used to make notes and stick them in random places and I'd find them and eventually the info stuck.
-
I agree I never drove a standard suspension kitted car until recently and the suspension made the car feel very unstable and soggy.
-
Pfft, nonsense. Finance doesn't automatically mean you're going to end up broke, and as long as the car is in positive equity it's just as easy to sell it if you fancy a change. I'd much rather have finance on a newer car like a 350Z than no finance but running around in a shed of a 200SX, couldn't care less if it's faster or not. It's all down to the individual, and while I do genuinely admire those with the willpower to save and save and only buy outright, people who go the finance route shouldn't automatically be lambasted as the root of all evil. +1

Without a remap tuners reckon you will not see any power gains. Initially the car feels more responsive probably because it's running leaner but the ems quickly maps back the afr to the oem spec

I agree with almost everything but if stripping a car out for track use then pretty sure its gonna have its balls ripped in. The bottom end will have wear. Any car travelling on WOT for extended period will show more wear and run a higher risk of failure. This has been demonstrable on lower mileage engines which have failed just because of knock, by not using correct Ron fuel. The chances are that a higher mileage engine will fail before a lower purely due to wear and tear and for 5k your not going to get much unless from a cat c/d car. The heat got to the calipers and caused flex and the bluestuff wore uneven, this is the reason the gtr brakes has a brace bolt through the middle of the caliper. I run yellowstuffs all year round and they're great but fade after 6-7laps. Bluestuff never faded at all but wore very uneven. Cooling ducts would help massively to help prolong life. Personally if I had 8k to buy a track car id be looking at a clio 182 and spend some cash caging it and stripping, or an older lotus Elise which is almost track ready.

+1 Makes me feel like I may have overspent a bit

Redstuff pads are far too soft for the zed. I destroyed bluestuff ndx track pads in one session on the zed. You wont lose much weight removing trim etc except with the seats. To lose weight start thinking carbon body parts, plastic windows etc. You will quickly see the bills mounting. And then for 5k a high mileage block... rag the arse out it for 2k miles and watch the bottom end fall apart and cost a few k to repair. R888's are more than 800 a set for the zed. Unless you have experience of the zed you wont realise how the weight contributes to so much wear and tear on brakes. Standard discs wont last long either with ebc on track
-
+1 you've been hanging about too much up Victoria road with all the "gangsters" in their pimped out s-classes
-
What I'd say then is get something around the 8k mark and put two grand away to use for repairs and fuel and maybe some mods. 8k will get you a nice low mileage 54 plate.
