  1. Worth a try lol. They are good enough cars im just fussy My wife's also fussy she said she refuses to drive a Volvo so thankfully I didn't like it. I suggested the previous 1 series a few months back and she said that's the ugliest car on the road, on par with a mini clubman Showed her the lexus today and she likes how it looks, liked the fact it looks more compact than the 159 I can't see past it now, nothing in this budget comes close
  2. Oh and the majority of Sikhs have Singh as their surname for males, Kaur for females. But not all of them
  3. I couldn't say for sure on Indian names as I'm from Pakistan and Muslim names are of Arabic origin. However in Pakistan a lot of people have their kids 2 or 3 names but there wasn't always a family name or surname. They were just given individual names. When they came here the surnames kicked in lol So my dad has 2 brothers, all of them with different names, but my generation who was all born here, our surnames are our dads' second names. But my cousins have different surnames to me Not sure how Indian culture works but when I have Indian patients I generally use their first name as the first one written on their file, or for older patients I will say mr/mrs and use the second name as a surname I know in some African/oriental cultures the family name was the first name and the second name is the individual name. So the opposite to western culture That's probably not much help to you....and might not make any sense..... But if it does there's a wee lesson for you
  4. Last paragraph in my previous post mate
  5. She's not a girl racer lol so I'm sure she will be fine. Looked at e90 bmws but it would need to be an m sport and even at that the spec is poor compared to the lexus. Same with c class- would need to be an amg sport I drive the family car as well and you all know how fussy I am I used to like the accord dblock but it's getting dated as well. And even in a top of the range with high spec feels inferior to other cars I wish I wasn't so fussy
  6. Not had one of these for a while So I'm looking to upgrade the wife's Mazda 3 sport saloon. Looking for something with a more exec feel to it, 4/5 doors, preferably a saloon, good economy, up to 4k, don't mind a high miler, 2005 earliest I had mentioned an alfa 159 but drove one the other day and wasn't overly impressed. Liked the weight of the steering wheel, the way it looks, comfy seats. But I don't know, there was something about it I couldn't put my finger on. Iv not ruled it out but it's no longer top of the list Second option was the previous audi a4 (2006 model) which feels way more solid than the alfa but it's a bit dated looking and the interior is really bland. Iv also heard about issues with turbos on them. Again not ruled out but I'm not sure on it. These were the 2 I had narrowed it down to but I went back to the drawing board I had a look at a Volvo s40 sport today. Love the exterior looks and inside the floating dash is pretty cool. Comfy seats, nice clunk when you close the doors but felt very grandad inside. She's 30, I'm 31 but I felt 51 sitting in it. Wanted to like it but I'm not sure I would've preferred a front wheel drive car while she's taking the wee one out and about but I couldn't think of anything else that would work. A few VWs could've but they just don't do it for me I'm now leaning towards an IS220d. Wanted to avoid a RWD but I can't look past the quality of the interior, the amount of extras, looks, badge and value for money. There's a good few well under 4k. I'm thinking with winter tyres in the next few months and some driving pointers that she will manage fine in the colder months. Anything else I look at I'm now comparing to this and nothing comes close Sorry for the long spiel but anything else I should look at? What's your thoughts of a slightly less confident driver in a RWD car?
  7. Just realised it was locked. Was an interesting debate up until the last couple if pages lol
  8. There's over 30 pages of debate on the other thread Feel free to get stuck into that one
  9. Kevin bridges joked about them showing braveheart the night before. He was saying they should also show trainspotting to balance it out Iv heard that channel 4 are showing both next week
  10. Of course there's a chance mate yeah, like I said before if there were other people pushing it who actually had a clue then it could be a different story But I think we have too much to lose and we could be worse off for years That's the thing though- there's too many unknowns On another note- why have the other Scottish No- voters gone quiet on this thread? I feel isolated
  11. Dblock, my reasons for voting no 1. We already have our own control over various aspects if the country- education, some laws, the nhs, all different in Scotland compared to the rest of the uk. If we didn't have this control I would see the need for independence, but we do As mentioned several times on here we were the first to put several things in place first then the rest followed. For example smoking in public, free prescriptions 2. The cost. The amount of money required to set a country up is huge. Every single department involved in running a country would be needed, some of them from scratch. Yes some will just evolve from the Scottish areas they are just now but the overall cost is a bit unpredictable. If anyone mentions figures chances are they will be underestimated and in reality it will be a whole lot more Yes we could be better off economically but once you deduct the cost of setting everything up, and the revenue we had as part of the uk, how long before were actually in the clear? Nobody can say when. I'd go further and say nobody can confirm this will happen for definite. There's a chance it could backfire and were worse off. Chances are our taxes going up to cover costs 3. The team pushing this do not seem capable of getting us over the line comfortably. Their plan is so weak, not enough has been thought through fully. It seems to be a case of once we get there we will figure it out. That lack of confidence and competence will make them lose out on my vote The people iv spoken to voting yes seem to be saying it just for the sake of independence. They haven't thought things through logically, how it could affect themselves or the country in general The same could be said about the snp
  12. I'm worried about the people walking into the polling stations thinking of ticking No.... Then taking the paper into the booth and thinking "**** it why not? I'm voting yes!" I know iv changed my mind at previous elections for people with funny names
  13. Only a week to go who will win? Not who should win but what will the outcome be? No opinions or why/who/how the other thread is for that. Let's keep this one a bit more light hearted We all know it's gonna be tight but my money is on No
  14. Also dblock you can't compare Scotland to India. Yes us Asians populate Scotland well but there's no comparison
  15. That's the thing Dave why run the risk of needing a bailout? There's a very high chance of this going belly up. I want to put it on record that if we do come running back I'm voting no I don't think anyone is getting wound up either. I'm taking it as a compliment that the majority of non scots want us to stay
  16. Gary why should it be like teenagers fumbling in the dark? That makes no sense to me whatsoever. This is a HUGE decision that will affect millions... If it was them setting up their political party and they made it up as they went along that's fine cos it only affects them. But this will not just affect all scots now- it will affect us for generations to come and it will also affect the rest of the uk It should be meticulously thought out before even thinking of going ahead. Not the way it's being done For that reason I'm out. Or in.... You know what I mean
  17. Yep not everything col but they haven't got the basics. You can't make it up as you go along Iv said before this a country they're setting up not a small business
  18. Someone touched on the dvla. That's something iv mentioned as well with family/friends. Not just vehicle registrations but all factions of the dvla. That's just one of the huge changes/expenses if it goes ahead But the problem? Apart from the cost- they don't have a solid plan in place for it. Were not talking a plan B, were talking plan A That pretty much sums up the whole campaign for me. There should be a solid, bulletproof plan in place before going to a referendum but it's just such a poor effort and I can't vote yes because of that. They want to go independent first and address all the problems afterwards. Doesn't work like that If it wasn't this bunch of clowns pushing it then I would consider voting yes Also someone mentioned Scotland being the first to introduce the smoking ban, free prescriptions etc etc. My argument to that would be- if Scotland have the powers to make their own laws and have their own nhs system, what is the need for this big change? It's not like were being oppressed lol
  19. But who's to say it will definitely be better? What if it does get worse? Politicians are politicians regardless of where they are in the world
  20. One positive about this whole referendum business.... It's brought dblock back!! I was out for a drive up north not long ago and all the signs out in the countryside were yes. I think I saw one no thanks compared to dozens of yes signs
  21. It's nothing extraordinary but it's a decent enough looking car. My criticism would be they dwelled too much on it bring a baby xf and it's turned out too similar to it. In the same way the x type was the first baby jag and that was a shrunken xj When I first saw the new xj a few years back I was surprised at how much they had changed the design compared to the ones previously. Even now there's still nothing like it from anyone else in that sector Was hoping this xe would be a bit more radical being in the smaller/younger market but it's a bit tame I heard the drive will be amazing though
  22. I'm in the no camp but I gate with George here If scots moving in should get a vote cos they're Scottish- then foreigners who have moved into Scotland shouldn't vote
  23. Mine didn't have rays but these were done in shadow chrome by the wheel specialist in ek
