  1. Do you still have a spare ballast for sale mate?
  2. Yep - the link to my thread will sort the windows! The passenger side motor on mine was so filthy a lightning bolt wouldn't have made contact Once the motor is out, clean the contact patches (probably covering in nasty black muck) and also clean the bushes contact points (again covered in crap). Test the motor works by plugging it in with the door still stripped down....and dont forget the passenger side window lock button on the drivers side...make sure it isnt pressed down lol !
  3. Still up for sale, now with a fixed passenger side window! Anyone want to part-ex a 309bhp Zed + cash your way?
  4. But he did sort your blower issues...so that was a bonus! And after all the testing, you know that something has gone badly wrong with the Nav. I'm certain the bloke who fitted it will have a solution for you fella.
  5. Massive thanks to Cookbot for looking at my passenger side window for me. It had been slowly dying in recent months, and had stopped working altogether in December just gone. viewtopic.php?f=35&t=30870 Referring to the guide from this forum (above), Paul managed to strip the door down, remove the motor and give the bushes and motor contact points a ruddy good clean. After 108000 miles of crap was cleaned off, the window works like new! Drops 2cm each time the door is opened, moves up and down really easily ! I'm well impressed, especially as Ni$$an wanted over 500 quid "because it will need a new motor..." idiots. I would stick some pics of the motor/bushes up (they were black instead of silver before they were cleaned) but i forgot to take some pics doh! I will say that if you are competant with a screwdriver, the doc above seems really easy to follow. Im not competant with a screwdriver, so popped over to see Cookbot instead Thanks to SteveW for the doc !
  6. Best modification i have had done to the Zed. Provided you have supporting modifications (see my sig) then the UpRev seems to work nicely with them. My car has 108000 miles on the clock, and is *almost* as fast now as a 309bhp 350z. Acceleration response and feedback were improved, and the car feels even more lively higher up the rev range than it used to do. After 13 runs (and a big tweak to the air/fuel mixture which was shot to sh1t on the normal map) i was hitting 293bhp at the fly, which i think worked out as a more accurate 244bhp at the hubs (i think - i dont have the graph to hand). This new map is now the normal map - i have no idea tho if the car's ECU de-learns from this and makes itself slower based on my driving style etc like the normal map and ECU supposedly do. I have NOT done an ECU reset since having it done. The ONLY fault (and this is nit picking!) after leaving RS Tuning was that the engine missed a few times on the way home when using cruise @ 60mph. Never done it since, so i assume this was to be expected after a new map. If you have the supporting modifications, get the Upev done. Really no point in having the intake, plenum, exhaust etc if you dont ! The lads at RS know what they are doing
  7. Cheers Stew - is the ballast the same as the powerpack that Paul mentions? The bulb that has gone is inside the lens that does occasonally get cloudy/damp at the bottom of the lens. Looking at the TSB on this, it's no worse than the 'acceptable' level that Nissan describe. This might explain why this bulb has died first though. If it is the ballast/powerpack, Paul will get a PM in a week or so when the new bulbs dont fix the problem Ta
  8. Cheers fellas. I have ordered some non-branded D2R bulbs (packs of two) for about 20 quid each from FleaBay. The Philips equivalents are 60 quid a pair on FleaBay....guess i will find out if they are sh1te or not. Mind you, when i had the 200SX converted to xenon (ballast kit etc) the bulbs for that weren't branded - had no probs with them over 18 months up to selling the car.
  9. Price dropped a little. Also still interested in a swap for another Zed so feel free to offer if you have a 296 or 309bhp revision Zed...(plus cash your way of course)
  10. I might be answering my own question here, but these seem a little TOO cheap ? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Replacement-Xenon ... 70ffc0fd9f
  11. Hi - noticed today while on a local meet near Clumber Forest, that my passenger side Xenon is not working. I hope it's just the bulb, guess i might as well change both at the same time. Car is a 53 plate UK GT. Am i correct in looking for a decent (Phillips?) D2R xenon bulb pack? How much are two new bulbs gonna be...? If it ends up being the ballast or power pack im gonna need a seconf hand unit - im not paying Nissan £500 Thanks
  12. I've been looking at 370s and the 309bhp 350s for the last month or so. Had several test drives whilst wondering if i should get rid of my 2003 GT spec Zed. Trade value for my car is circa £4.5k - the mileage at 107k is an average 14k per year. Despite a bulging wallet file of history/receipts, not a single stealer or trader has cared to attempt to offer anything more. I have consistently offered to pay cash outright for the cars ive test driven - asking how much the dealer/seller will drop the price by....they dont. Best i have managed is £300 off a 309bhp Zed cos the tyres weren't legal. I have even provided proof of finances to two dealers - they didnt move the price at all (and im 34 and normally in my work suit and tie lol!) It seems that prices (certainly at dealers) haven't exactly dropped, they are just not advertising them at bullsh1t prices (ie a 309bhp Zed at Nissan stealer can be had for £14k with only 30k miles on the clock. 6 months ago the same car would have been up for 16-18k). The dealers seem to have become 'honest' overnight and have slashed prices, removing the BS that they normally add onto the price. Hence bob-all hope of getting them to shift (much) on price it seems at the moment. One place i went to yesterday has had the same 07 plate 309bhp Zed (no satnav) since October, at £15k. Despite me showing the dealer a raft of better cars at 1-2k less, he was adamant that £15k was the right price and wouldn't budge..... a mix of realistic dealer pricing, and a few dealers with slighgtly silly prices still it seems Again, private sales are impacted by dealers sudden 'moral' pricing. End of day, my car/your car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it. Thankfully like many selling on here, Im not desperate. Afterall, i will only end up with a slightly newer Zed if i do manage to sell mine
  13. Had a test drive in a 309bhp Zed this morning - impressed with it. Marginally quicker then my modified original Zed, which was re-assuring. The ride also felt good despite being at normal height - i reckon a set of aftermarket alloys is all i will need for Zed #2.......no more mods required.......honest.........must.........not.............modify................. Some more pics of my car - having just cleaned it i'm less inclined to sell it lol ! http://img560.imageshack.us/i/cimg2247a.jpg/]http://img560.imageshack.us/img560/4660/cimg2247a.jpg http://img35.imageshack.us/i/cimg2248a.jpg/]http://img35.imageshack.us/img35/276/cimg2248a.jpg http://img833.imageshack.us/i/cimg2256a.jpg/]http://img833.imageshack.us/img833/2228/cimg2256a.jpg http://img29.imageshack.us/i/cimg2250a.jpg/]http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5474/cimg2250a.jpg http://img843.imageshack.us/i/cimg2252a.jpg/]http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/9594/cimg2252a.jpg http://img138.imageshack.us/i/cimg2254a.jpg/]http://img138.imageshack.us/img138/3797/cimg2254a.jpg
  14. EDIT - price dropped to £7195 - i may be flexible on price if i find a buyer through the forum. Owned by myself for the last 3+ years. Lots of history and bits replaced, repaired etc to keep the car at a high standard. UPDATE: new xenons fitted (6000k slight blue tint). Also fitted new HID xenon ballast to replace a broken unit. Passenger side window fixed - motor and bushes now nice and clean! Tax due this month - i will buy another 6 months or knock some cash of the sale price. Oil/filter service is due - I'll get this done before selling her (when i say 'due' i mean she hasn't had fresh oil for 5k miles....Nissan service schedule is 9k miles i believe, so technically good for another 4k miles, but i never like to run oil for more than 5k miles) With a heavy heart.... http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2482119.htm .... or is it? After spending weeks deliberating over getting a 370z, I've finally convinced myself i cant afford one (yet). So, I'm after the next-best option.....anyone want to part with a nice 309BHP Zed to swap for mine with cash your way?
  15. Booked the last Mezz room Fri and Sat night (we may stay over on Sunday too, work permitting). Can someone update the names list? Four months to go....wonder if i can get the car to 111,111 miles on arrival
  16. 370z Having first seen it in the flesh at Goodwood in 2009, i knew the 370z was always going to be a likely replacement for my 350. Getting even closer to Colin and Chris' 370s during last years wales trip further convinced me that a Porsche Cayman or a BMW M3 e90 would be an utter waste of an additional load of cash. Bottom line, the 370s looked stunning from almost every angle, and had interiors that were a solid step up from the earlier 350 cabin (which itself was a good place to be sat). My performance worries were qoushed at last years Zedfest, when a few wet-weather runs in the Nissan demo coupe and roadster version convinced me that the power delivery was almost perfect. Skip forward another few months, and i finally decide to get myself and Lydia a test drive booked at the local Nissan garage. With the usual sales patter and ID checks complete, the sales rep was happy to let both of us go out with him on a good 15 mins plus test drive, on some fast dual carriageways, and some 60 limit B roads and 30mph urban areas. I'd chosen to testdrive the auto because i had no idea what it was like compared to a manual, or a few of my mates R32 VW DSG boxes. I had even asked Lydia (who went out first) to see what she thought of the auto box when shifting up aggressively at higher revs etc (ie did it lurch a fair bit?)... ....20 mins later Lydia returns smiling, but with a bit of a frown on her face. "Auto box lurches?" i enquire. She nods. I grab the keys and set off myself in the car. Firstly, in "D" (drive) the car felt pretty damn seemless at shifting. Nice and gentle thru the gears to 5th or 6th at relatively low speeds, clearly designed to maximise fuel economy when you dont use your right foot. Snick the gear lever to the right into the M (manual) mode, and you essentially have Playstation control over the gearing on the car....very nice! The shifts in the main felt quite quick, and the synco rev on the downshift was normally pretty accurate. I managed to fool the box a few times on the downshift, creating quite a lurch as it dropped from 3rd to 2nd or similar. Up shifts would also have a habit of creating a bit of a lurch as it moved between gears - not excessive like a bad, rushed manual shift, but annoying never-the-less. Ive never driven an auto before, and have only ever been a passenger in a 911 (996) turbo, and two R32 Golfs with DSG boxes. So perhaps im being unkind to the torque-convertor box on the Zed, but it really didnt feel anywhere near as refined as the VW unit. It certainly wasnt ham-fisted, but not as quick or smooth as the DSG boxes are. Clearly, 20 mins or so isnt enough for me to claim to be an expert, but i wasnt comfortable with the way the box reacted to my driving, or the way i tried to shift gear. It felt like it would only get the shifts perfectly right 80% of the time, with 20% of my shifts resulting in lurches or annoying (albeit short) pauses. Again, only 20 mins probably proves little, but im fairly sure i want a manual car where any lurches are a direct result of my incompetance :o) Auto box aside, i love the 370z. There isnt quite as much leg room as in my 350 (shorter wheelbase?) and the visibility is noticeably worse. But who cares when the inside looks this good, and the outside too. The car in standard form handled really well over speedbumps, round fast roundabouts, B roads etc. Very impressed with the overall package truth be told. Engine noise is stiffled by the lame exhaust (cue Colin's Stillen) and maybe it needs spacers, but overall a nicer package than the standard 350. But when i finally get myself into one that i have paid for, im fairly sure it will be a manual....i guess i just dont need the comfort and occasional downsides of an auto box ! RB320 Burbling exhaust as standard. Check. Perfect visibility all round. Check. Excellent Brembos. Check. Bonkers power delivery on boost. Check. Comes with a set of rails for cornering. Check. An utterly different league to the Zed. Far more aggresive on boost than the bigger GT cars, and bends of any sort can be dispatched so easily its almost like re-writing physics. Being far lighter than the Zed, it felt more capable stopping with the same Brembo setup. Acceleration on boost with the additional horses and lighter weight also felt, well, bonkers ! I ended up rifling thru gears to try to keep up with the speed the car was piling on. Average acceleration. average acceleration. BOOOOOOOST (sh1t change gear!) BOOOOOOOST (sh1t change gear!) BOOOOOOOST (sh1t change gear!) BOOOOOOOST (sh1t change gear!) BOOOOOO....actually better slow down to preserve licence ! On the outside (with the exception of the standard 'Hawkeye' model rear-lights), the car looks brutal in black. Really aggressive stance, with menacing front and side views which seemed to attract as many stares as the 370! As a very fast 'car' it really is faultless if you've never experienced any real level of modern automotive quality....sadly, compared to the Impreza, the inside of the Zed might as well be a Maybach. The Subaru interior leaves a lot to be desired. Seats dont adjust down, or slide back anywhere near far enough (at max legroom there was still about 10" between the back of my seat and the rear passenger seat). I ended up feeling a little cramped. The dash, steering wheel and general interior all feel a bit, well, cheap. Recaro seats are great but the lack of adjustability, coupled with the silly blue coverings left me wondeing whether Subaru are actually trying to appeal to the Burberry massive. This is a shame given the cars fantastic abilities on A and B roads. Limited to only 320 cars supplied to the UK, the RB320 kind of commands its own premium, a fair few thousand more than a similar age and spec STI. I cant help feeling that if Subaru had done a little more with the interior they might have extended the appeal of the Hawkeye Impreza beyond its current clientelle... If i wasn't after a 370 so badly, i would have dropped the cash on the RB320. Its far from perfect in todays modern world of Sports Cars (with its limited interior), but in terms of performance on the road it really is as good as you can get on crappy British roads. Epic might be a word to use to describe it's performance. Sadly its not a word i would use to describe the interior... ...anyone selling a 370z, manual, gun-metal grey??
  17. Didn't have a great deal on today, so booked a test drive in an auto 370z at Nissan in Mansfield (23k 09 plate). Also figured i might as well scratch my RB320 itch, so popped along to a Subaru dealer in Notts. I'll stick a mini-review onto this thread a bit later on (footy on telly now!).....but in a brutal nutshell: 370z auto = no thanks, im happy with a manual. Love the looks of the car. Power and delivery are sublime. Think i want one (in manual of course) RB320 = utterly gobsmacking power delivery. Handles on rails. Pops and bangs nicely on overrun. Poor interior and seats are so high my dads Mondeo feels like a sports car.... if only Impreza's it didnt have an 'image' problem More later - footy beckons.
  18. Give Notts laser alignment a call - based near the County Ground cattle market. I've used them twice - nice setup, computer-controlled rig for getting correct alignment from manufacturer then setting it all up etc. They also do tyres... Dont ever go to Kwik Fit again. Utterly useless at everything they do - no one has a good word to say about them, not even their own staff.
  19. -1 nowt wrong with EBC drilled/grooved. I ran a set to over 40k miles before they started to die thru old age
  20. Here ya go. Bear in mind that i run Eibach spacers so they might/might not help keep the surface of the outer-disc clean.
  21. My front EBC drilled/grooved discs after an estimated 45k miles. Originally fitted i mid 2008 iirc. They have really lasted well and only recently started to vibrate due to wear. Because the dics were so fooked i have changed the front pads too to be on the safe side (im not sure how badly glazed/pitted the current pads might be). If anyone is thinking of aftermarket discs, i can recommend the EBC ones. Excellent value and very good looking too (well, when they are new of course) Cheers to CS for sorting out replacement discs at very short notice aswell, top service as always
  22. ARRRRGGGGHHHH ! ! ! What is it with Nissan and front-headlught bulbs? I had to loosen the front bumper, remove the centre grill and then unscrew the headlights on my 200sx before i could get at the bulbs. Now i have to remove both front wheels and arch-liners to replace two poxy sidelight bulbs on the 350! What's it like on the GTR? Do you need to remove the ruddy engine before you can get at the bulbs??? viewtopic.php?f=26&t=6089&hilit=replace+headlight+bulb I'll tackle this later in the week. I need to source some replacement sidelight bulbs first. (W5W ?)
  23. Managed to get to the third, secret fuse box behind the battery. Even Annekka Rice didnt have to go through this much crap to find the next clue ! I've taken all 4 of the main headlight fuses out -(Right side Hi and Lo, Left side Hi and Lo). All the 15amp fuses are in perfect order, no breaks or burnt residue inside them. I swapped Hi for Lo and i still have the same problem, no working sidelights. Main Beam zenons, plus high-beam normal lights are perfectly ok. I think this leaves just two possibilities then: 1 - BOTH sidelight bulbs have blown at the front 2 - the relay for the sidelights might need replacing? Pics of the location of the third fuse bix are attached. Removal of the trim is easy enough - replacing the trim wasnt so easy I'll go and have a search of the forum...is headlight bulb replacement a wheel-off, arch-liner off jobbie...? [/url]
  24. I took the Zed down the motorway and back tonight whilst the weather holds-off, to get some charge in the battery. I noticed when i started the car that the front side-lights dont light up. Main beam and full-beam are ok, side lights aren't. The rear lights are ok when i turn the switch to side-lights. I dont think both (or all 4?) normal non-zenon bulbs have gone in the front. And i doubt its wiring either (but i guess it could be condensation?). Am i right in thinking there are THREE fuse boxes on the Zed, and the one i need to look in is the longer, thinner one in the engine bay (where?) that is a biatch to get the lid off? Anyone got a pic of what im looking for fuse-box wise? Hopefully it's just one/two of the sidelight fuses that have gone pop... too cold and dark to check now , but i'll have a look in the morning (if i can find the correct fuse box) Thanks!
  25. I forget who i got the discs from Pretty sure they were from CS. Rear discs were £285 iirc early this year. Fronts were around the same, but i got those 18 months ago. Ni$$an want 600 quid per pair for OEM..... EDIT - checked my PMs and they were from CS. Can't recommend Cougar Stores enough - very good to do business with, very helpful and very prompt on delivery
