  1. Thanks. Bridgestone also do the 'A' and 'Poleposition' versions of the RE050. Does anyone use these and what is the difference? Softer compound?
  2. Thanks guys for all your replies. Does anyone know how many miles on average Re050 last and are they slightly cheaper than RE040?
  3. I have the stock Bridgestone RE040's. They have (against most negative opinion) up to now been perfect and have lasted well over 12 months and 15k miles. However I was thinking about moving to Vredestein tyres if that is what they're called. Does anyone have them and if so how are they in the wet and how long do they last - also I know Vredestein do different types. Which type is the most recommended for the Z - is it "Sessanta" or are there quite a few other types they offer? I know they are a lot cheaper than Bridgestone but also used on the likes of Corvettes so must be very good. I was looking for some RE050's but Bridgestone dont seem to make the 245 /45/18 size. They do the 40 profile but not 45. They do the front tyre size 225/45/18, just not the rear which is odd - here's Bridgestone's own tyre sizes that they do http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/re050.aspx Do you guys that run RE050's actually use RE050"A" (with an A on the end of the name)? They definitely do the RE050"A"s in the rear wheel size for the 350z. What's the average price per wheel/tyre for an RE050A and how many miles on average would they last? I assume slightly less miles than the RE040's due to their softer compound.
  4. Are you running Kinetix high flow cats with your Nismo? How are they with your Nismo Y-pipe?
  5. Are yours the resonated/silenced ones and did you notice any loss in power low down the revs?
  6. Is anyone using Japspeed resonated/silenced decat pipes? What's the quality and fitment like (especially with heat shield) and do you get lots of rasp? If you are using them what exhaust/Y-pipe are you using, standard or aftermarket? thanks for any info. Did you also notice any loss in torque/power low down the revs?

    Potholes

agreed pay through the nose for a service that is crap, at least its only the road network.... oh wait no..... sounds like all public sector institutions Totally agree - where do all our taxes go!!?? We are now paying much more road tax and our roads are getting worse each year! Over the last few years they have started putting loose gravel on top of new road surfaces and using users' cars to flatten it all down, causing stone chips and potential for skidding (I have skidded on more than one occasion on this loose gravel). They used to use proper rollers to flatten it all down on new road surfaces and the tarmac lasted several years. Costs them more money in the long term if they use cheap tarmac. Instead they think short term and use cheap tarmac and after a bit of snow this happens. Doctor GP's used to get £30-40k ten years ago. Now the minimum salary for a GP is slightly over £100k (all tax payer's money) and yet they now work less hours. And our hospitals are in a worse state. And back to roads - they put our road tax up double and yet their "reason" is to get us out of cars. They certainly don't put it towards maintaining our roads! If they made public transport more efficient and a lot lot cheaper then only then would I consider (and I would seriously consider) using buses and trains. It would take me three hours to get to work by bus where I live and by car it is only 20 minutes and to get into my nearest town it is cheaper to get a taxi than get a bus!!! How backwards is that? It is cheaper to fly to parts of the country than travel by train and the buses in Sussex are a joke (unless you live in a city, even then they are only every half hour). Bl**dy government is so incompetent. Moan over
  8. Totally agree with you about the potholes and state of the English roads. We pay all our taxes each year and they still haven't fixed the roads. If they used proper tarmac in the first place this wouldn't happen after a small bit of snow. Instead they think short term and use cheap stuff and then put a lay of "gravel" on top of it using the road users' cars to flatten it all down and at the same time get some nice stone chips (not to mention cause the potential for skidding). In the "old days" (I'm only 33) they used rollers to flatten it all down and the tarmac actually lasted more than a year. Makes me mad.
  9. Hi there yes was good to meet you too. I forgot to ask you what your member name was on here. Your car looked very nice and very race focused. Yes very happy with my plenum spacer thanks, and the new spark plugs - definitely makes a difference on the road. The spacer seems to allow it to rev more freely. I'll possibly see you again down at Abbey some time as I'm looking at getting an Uprev reflash. Good luck in your next race Yes I've tried my350z. On my350z there seem to be more "negative" issues related to Berks and Nismo Y-pipe but I assume you would never hear the good stories, only bad ones. Just wondered what the case was with people over here in the UK and how long their hfc had lasted with the Nismo y-pipe?
  10. Thanks guys. When are you both getting your remaps done?
  11. Thanks guys. Don't know what it was - could have been some oil on the road. I think it was a mixture of road surface, my accelerating slightly too early before the corner had finished and low tread on tires (although the tires do seem fine, just not brand new) I am so glad it turned out ok. As it was happening the only thing that went through my head was "sh*t I've written my car off!" because I remember reading of a member on here who wrote his black 350 off about a year ago when he skidded as he came off a roundabout onto a dual carriageway. Just so lucky it was that time of the day and I was on the inside lane - if I was in the outside lane I think I would have hit the central reservation.
  12. Yes I seriously looked into the Blackberry. Very nice phones. However the internet browsing capability and email of the Iphone is rated as the best in most business reviews. Also the fact you have to use Blackberry's own internet service in conjuction with the network provider put me off. Oh and the lack of wifi on most of their phones. Although I think they have finally seen sense and started putting this in to their new Storm v2.
  13. I was driving to Abbey Motorsport yesterday, early morning, no other traffic around and the the conditions were damp. As I was coming round a roundabout I reached my exit which was a dual carriageway. However there is a small sharpish corner on the roundabout exit before the road straightens out. Not sure if anyone knows it - it is the "Washington roundabout" on the A24 - I was coming from Worthing going north. I was applying a small steady amount of power going round the corner ready to accelerate on the straight bit up to 70 on the dual carriageway. I can only assume I started accelerating a fraction too early because the car's backend went out just before I hit the straight section of road. So this was my mistake entirely. It's a given rule: never apply acceleration in a corner but I think I must have done just as I was exiting the corner. I automatically put on opposite lock slightly to compensate and slowly let of the power (although you're supposed to keep the power on so I've heard) and as I did opposite lock the car fishtailed the opposite way, before finally correcting itself and carried on in the correct direction up the dual carriageway. The whole thing happened in less than three seconds. My "ESP" traction control is always on. Thankfully it was a dual carriageway with lots of space, very early in day, there were no other cars around, and my car didn't hit anything. My rear tires still have tread on them although I predict I do need to change them in a few months so this too is a factor. This is the first time this has ever happened in my car since I got it exactly 12 months ago. Normally it sticks to the road like glue in all conditions, even the wet. Just thought I'd let everyone know what happened. I was lucky yesterday but be careful out there in the wet cr*ppy conditions we seem to have all the time at the mo.
  14. Hi Is anyone running a Nismo exhaust (with Nismo Y-pipe) and have also fitted Berk high flow cats? How are your cats and Nismo Y-pipe holding out, any issues, cracks and how many miles approx have you put on the Berks? I'm thinking of getting some Berk metallic high flow cats but have heard issues of getting HFC and Nismo Y-pipe, where the hfc or the Y-pipe crack. Thanks for any info.
  15. Haven't got access to a scanner at the moment but I'm running at about 292 bhp I think (don't have the graph in front of me at the moment, at work). To be honest the figures aren't that important to me, I just know it feels much better now! Do you know what power you made at the wheels?
  16. I've now got the plenum spacer and to be honest I can hardly notice much difference in sound (maybe with the bonnet up I would), perhaps a bit more induction noise. The car certainly pulls a lot harder mid-range - many thanks to Mark at Abbey who did a great job fitting it all
  17. I was down at Abbey today talking to Mark about his remap. I will be very interested to know your results on the dyno after getting a remap. I have a Nismo exhaust inc Y pipe, panel filter, MD plenum spacer. Just toying with idea of getting hfc and then remap to finish it off. Be interested to know what kind of power we can get for basic bolt on mods on the early 350z.
  18. 0-62mph - 5.9 secs for 2003-2005 0-62mph - 5.8 secs for Rev Up 2006-2007 0-62mph - 5.7 secs for HR 2007-to date The above are all factory quoted 0-62 (not 0-60), however many references will quote the above figures as 0-60 which is actually incorrect - they are 0-62. And going by the above factory quoted 0-62 figures the 0-60 times would in fact be 0.1 to 0.2 secs quicker, so there you go (so for a Rev Up model it would equate to 0-60 ~5.7-5.6secs). As for 0-100 times you can try using a website such as letstorquebhp.com to give a good comparison although not sure on the accuracy of that site. As mentioned above by other people, figures on paper are wildly irrelevant. I have seen videos where a lightly modded 350z will beat an E46 M3 (which is supposed to have ~40 more bhp) and an early 350z beat a newer HR 350z. I've seen plenty of lightly modded 350z's out drag the new Evo's. All goes to show fast cars on paper mean nothing - drivers, conditions, and every car will be different from the factory. Factory quoted bhp will also vary from car to car and is just a "guide" just like the performance times. By looking on Audi forums over the last couple of years I have found that an Audi RS4 (B7 newest shape) has a factory quoted bhp of 414bhp but most owners are going on dynos and getting disappointed with only getting figures that equate to 360ish bhp at the fly. Another example: the Shelby Mustang GT500 is supposed to have 500bhp yet most make a lot less "only" 450bhp. All I can say is on the road the 350z certainly feels much quicker than most other cars and handles like glue on the road and looks very exclusive and is much quicker than most hot hatches such as Civic Type Rs, ST's, R32 etc. I know this because my old mk3 Golf VR6 (lightly modded) could keep up with all of those and I know my 350z feels much stronger on the road than my old golf. Only hot hatch (other than new Suburu) that would potentially beat a 350z is the new focus RS which is a good car. Off the line the 350z is not the quickest but once rolling it is incredibly quick.
  19. Very nice looking example. Enjoy it! I do love them in black. I also got mine from a main dealer: West Way in Manchester and the customer service was appalling and the salesman very incompetent! He came running out into the customer carpark after I had signed all the paperwork saying the price I had signed and agreed to was £500 short!! Couldnt believe what I was hearing - turned out it was his mistake and he thought I was paying by car finance (which involve a £500 deposit or something) but I was paying for it myself so this didn't apply but he still insisted I owed it on top of the sale price. He really embarassed himself and the manager who came running out with him in front of other customers in their car park!! Just couldn't believe how useless they were but the manager "eventually" admitted it was their mistake (plus at the end of the day I had signed everything by that point) but I never at no point got an apology from the salesman himself. They even charged me for a set of spare keys. I'm glad you got better service.
  20. My iphone also connects fine. However the bluetooth in the Iphone is the worst in any phone I have every had. You have to leave your blue tooth on all the time if you want it to connect automatically next time you get in the car. you can't just turn off your bluetooth and then turn it back on when you next get back into the car. You have to turn the bluetooth on and then manually touch the Nissan connection in your bluetooth connection list. In my old phones with handsfree I could simply turn off the bluetooth when I left the car and then turned it back on prior to getting back into the car and it would remember my car's connection and connect automatically again. The iphone does remember the connection (because it shows up in the devices detected list again) but does not connect automatically. Apple have confirmed this is unfortunately how it is. It also cannot connect to any other phone other than a handsfree device. Very basic bluetooth functionality. Apart from that brilliant phone and internet browsing and multi-touch screen interface leagues ahead of other phones. Anyway iphone moan over! Oh and yes you can make calls with the inbuilt bluetooth phone functionality, as mentioned you have to go through a procedure to store numbers as names and then you simply say "dial name" and it will ring the stored number against that name. Would be excellent though it if could automatically pick up the stored names in your phone's contact list (maybe one day).
  21. You are correct to a certain extent, but only if you are in the States. In the States they quote bhp slightly differently and quote the factory figure of 287bhp whereas in the UK we use a slightly different "correction" method calculating the bhp at the fly as being 276bhp. Both have same output though - they just advertise them differently. However in the 2006 and onward models I believe the States reverted to our system of quoting bhp, hence the 06 and later HR models have similar factory quoted figures to the UK. Just for info I have been to more than one dyno and one dyno was about 20 bhp less than the other!! Best to get it to Abbey Motorsport in Surrey if you can who have a "hub dyno" which measure it much more accurately and you will get more consistent figures. Most dynos use "rollers" which can lead to inconsistent figures and mis-calibrations. I'm going there this Saturday.
  22. I'd definitely tell mine - I was just wondering what other insurance companies had charged you for just a panel filter.
  23. Hi Simple question - to those with panel filters what did your insurance company say when you told them? Does it equal a "modified air filter/box", meaning you are now paying the same insurance as if you had gone the full hog and put an induction kit on? Thanks for any info or comments.
