From what she was saying its absolutely nothing like the books so anyone rushing off to the cinema in the hope of seeing a film about violent domestic abuse will be disappointed. Rather than keeping Mr Grey as a ginger psychotic serial woman abuser who grooms the young innocent virgin girl and forces her into a violent relationship, they have turned it more into a romantic love story type film in which the girl actually has the power in the relationship etc. 1 Quote

I'm a fairly educated woman (I do own a zed )and I think on the more feminist side of things and I found the books fairly entertaining, but as said above not exactly well written. I found the description of the first book by Rabbitstew a little over exaggerated, but the book was meant to shock, it's fiction and she (the writer) hoped to make lots and lots of money I will say IMO the reason so many people enjoyed the books is because the story essentially boils down to a young girl finding a wealthy, good looking, attentive (yes sometimes overly to start with) who was "broken" and with just love, understanding and patience she "fixes" him and ends up happily ever after, albeit with a dozen or so orgasms thrown in for good measure, it's the soft porn version of a Disney story! I'm out with a ridiculously large group of friends later in the week to see the movie. I'm not expecting it to be anything but total rubbish, but should be a good night out with the girls and Ekona, I'll let you know what's on show 1 Quote

Women seem to think its a nice happy romantic story whereas most men seem to come to the same conclusion as I did. Very true, opinions are like a***holes, everyones got one For what it's worth I didn't find it all that romantic or Disneylike, but I also didn't find it horrendously misogynistic, but I can understand the reasons for people thinking either or a mixture of both 1 Quote

Much to my wife's annoyance and her friends amusement I'm sorry to say I fell asleep! What I did see of it was total rubbish. The only critique I can offer to any girlies going to see it is a brief summary of the painful conversation on the way home. I would at this point post up a spoiler alert but the film was so rubbish there is nothing to spoil. Anyway,the general consensus was, he ( I don't even know the actor's name) is not a particularly convincing Mr Grey and not what they had in mind. When pressed about what or who they did have in mind they couldn't come up with anything other than not him. That's women for you. Lots of the book apparently missed out. Not enough graphic hanky panky. Hope this helps Dan and Graham make an informed decision as to whether to see it! 2 Quote

The image conveyed in the books is that Mr Grey has ginger hair and for some reason the impression I got was that he wore it in a long floppy sort of style. The author also keeps harping on about how his jeans hang of his hips "like that". Which I took to mean the guy wore his jeans in a "gangsta" style, i.e. half way down his arse and didnt own a belt or braces. So the pictures ive seen of this actor guy seems to show a the guy always in a smart suit with short brown hair, so nothing like what the book portrays. Quote

Well, I guess the colour of his hair doesn't really matter but the other bit doesn't appeal in the slightest. I have found a copy on the internet which I may watch, don't think I'll bother bunking off work to see it at the cinema (like I did with the Twilight films lol) Quote

Most disappointing film of the year. Although I am really envious of their DIY store that stocks rainbow coloured selections of masking tape & cable ties....don't get that in our Homebase Quote
