dajw Posted January 8, 2015 Author Share Posted January 8, 2015 Look at the animation, if correct it should show that each opposing pair of Pistons reaches top dead centre slightly after each other, so they are not quite three boxer engines but rather phased to provide smoother power to the cranks. It is a truly nutty design but I fear it would kill the power to weight ratio, plus: it's a diesel! :-/ I love a bit of engine geekery. Weberauto on YouTube has some properly in depth descriptions of how transmissions work.
