I'm 28 - I would say the age of people owning these sorts of cars have come down recently for various reasons such as

Larger number of young people in IT/London with more disposible cash

Years ago when houses were 60K/80K to spend 20K on a car seemed a hell of a lot. Now where the same houses are costing 180/200K to spend 20K does not seem as much money. I know quite a few who have thought sod it, if I can't buy a house I am going to enjoy myself when I am young.

Cars getting cheaper someone mentioned the Supra - typical example - generally I would say the Supra and 350z were similar - it cost 50K, now the 350z costs ~25K

53 soon!

3 kids meant sensible family choices!!

In order:- Morris Minor, Mini, Wolsey 6 (x2), Austin Maxi, Mark 3 Cortina Estate, Mark 4 Estate, Sierra Estate, Range Rover, Toyota Previa, BMW 330 Convertible, 350Z!! (plus an Omega estate and the BMW which I cant bear to sell yet!)

Anyone spot the moment the kids became independent?!! Which was roughly the same time I was accused of having a mid-life crisis - "Convertible and then a two seater - you must be seeing someone else!!!"

No comment on that :offtopic: but wanting and having a 350Z is a mid-life achievement as far as I am concerned! Had always wanted a Supra but spotted a Z when I went to Crewe for a football match and that was that!

So what are the typical patterns for a Z owner - young and free with no commitments, grown up children and increased disposable income, old and free with no commitments!!??

My list has some similarities, for the same reasons. -

Morris Minor, Austin Mini, Ford Escort Mk 1, Austin Maxi, Morris Marina, Marina Estate, Datsun Stanza, Rover 200, Renault 21, Lancia Thema, Lancia Thema 16V, Renault Laguna 1.8, Renault Laguna 2.0, Honda Prelude 2.0, Honda Prelude 2.2, Nissan 350Z.

I loved the Lancias, and my wife had a couple of Deltas around the same time. Don't ask what possessed me to buy 2 Marinas - they were dire! :scare:

I've just remembered that the first car in that list that was genuinely reliable for long journeys was the Stanza.

Well in NZ a brand new 350 has always been about 74-76K NZ$, so it was usually late 20's through to more senior 350 driver in our clubs is 53, most of us have had our Z's since new. In the last 2 years with the influx of the 2002 & 2003, the youngest is 21.

USA brand new owners seems to be anything 16 years old, to the other end of the scale, which I believe is 70 years old. And a delightful chap he is and actually gets a bit of respect from the very young ones.

Oh, and I should qualify in NZ an average priced car is in the mid-late 30K range.
