GT4 Zed

Have you drilled out your standard OEM PCV on the drivers side? I was advised to do that by GT4 Zed...

To help better flow of crankcase gases I will recommend drill the OEM pcv valve. You need a 23mm socket if I recall correctly to take it out the use a drill bit to gut the internal valve and spring. Once it's gutted put it back in and connect everything as you propose.

Mines not all set up yet but this is how I was going to do my set up;

On the passenger side I was going to put a mini breather filter.

On the drivers side I was going to take the pipe from the crank case to the oil catch can, then take the pipe from the exit side of the oil catch can to the plenum with a non return check valve inline to stop pressure from the plenum going backwards towards the oil catch can/crank case.

Same for me but have not drilled out the oem pcv valve. I have to empty my rutland motors catch tank every 3-4 long drives as it fills up quite fast.

this pcv stuff is confusing GMB just tell me what to buy when you get yours and how to do it

It is confusing that's why I have done as much research on it as possible before going ahead with anything.

Oil catch can I've bought: http://oilcatchtank.com/rutland-motors-about-us/

Link for more info about it: http://www.350z-uk.com/topic/58175-oil-catch-can-tested-and-proven/

Non return valve: http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/nylon-non-return-valve-10mm

Gates reinforced fuel/oil hose: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330803508813?var=540090527905&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

Mini Air filter/breather: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330803496881?var=540090517553&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

That's basically what I've bought. Obviously you could change some bits if you like for more expensive items (eg: oil catch can/filter etc) but most of the parts I've bought because others have used them before me with good results.

you my friend are a legend , with the small see through oil catch can I was thinking about how much emptying of it would need to be done, would this can be ok and hold more oil before needing emptying?

I was looking at all sorts of oil catch cans before I settled on the Rutlands one which a fair few other supercharged Zed owners have/are using. The thing for me was where are you going to mount such a large oil catch can? With other things like a fuel pressure regulator in the engine bay and other bits I just thought it was better to just go for the tried and tested one.

ChrisB doing his supercharger build (members build threads) has gone for the Mishimoto oil catch can but it is very expensive imo ~ also he has yet to find a place to mount it so you may want to check out his build thread before buying anything. ;)

It is beautiful though

yeah i was worried about that size issue with the can, its just the fact im a bit paranoid of leaks or cracking/regularly emptying the rutland one and thought a more durable one might benefit from the start.

they have a smaller one as well

but are you not meant to see the oil somehwere?

may just have to get the Rutland one and keep asking you guys loads of questions

The way I think about the lack of sight with the bigger cans is that it becomes more a service interval thing than a worrying about it filling up (as in small ones). A big tank should be good for thousands of miles.

As it happens, this very evening I spent a good two hours trying to make mine fit. It is soooo close - pain to fit from the top too as my car is back on the ground - but I was trying to use pre-existing bolts (coolant bracket middle bolt). Literally only 5-10 degrees too much contact with the mishi rad fans. I will probably end up drilling separate holes.... bit like grundy's wheels this...

I think the idea with seeing the oil is just to see how full the catch can is. As long as you check it fairly regularly with that OBP one I can't see it being a problem.

I did look at the OBP ones but in the end settled on the Rutlands one purely as it was tried/tested by others, ....oh yeah and it was cheap.

If I wasn't on such a tight budget I may well have gone all out like Chris has with the Mishimoto one. B)
