Hi guys

ive organised to go and view this (http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/nissan/350z/2004-nissan-350z-gt-ukdm/2027936?isexperiment=true) on saturday 8th feb at 12.00pm in didsbury in manchester.

would any of you fab people be available to help me view the car or failing that give me some idea of what to look out for?

im not up to speed with any common problems with 350z's yet so any help would be great.

cheers

Lee

The car looks like it’s just come out of the showroom. There are no dents, scratches or blemishes to the bodywork or paint

apart from the expected stone chip here and there due to its age

Unfortunately there is some slight scratching to the rear bumper and boot-lid (see picture).

Hahahaha.

Follow the link above for the things to look out for, it helped me :)

Edit: Also, interior is far from perfect.. Wear on the drivers bolster? To be fair, everything he's listed are things I'd expect from a 10 year old car but don't say it's perfect then stitch yourself up within a few sentences.

thanks for that, ive had a look and taken note.

As for wear to the drivers bolster, you must be very picky as imho thats sod all!

i get what you mean about the perfect body work though.

still going to look at it and have a drive though, the guy might be very picky too

I'm based im Manchester.

Not free on Saturday unfortunately.

However I am free tomorrow lunchtime or late evening.

I own an 05 GT coupe that I've had from new.

If you are free tomorrow lunchtime and can pop down to Rusholme, I'll be more than happy to show you round and take you for a ride in my zed.

This will give you a baseline against which to compare prospective purchases.

In my opinion mine is as fine an example as you'll find for a 9 yr old car.....

BUT IM OBVIOUSELY BIASED

Pm me your number if you want to hook up.

Some things to check ~ Bring a CD to check the Bose head unit plays it without skipping, also check speakers all work, check the fuel flap pops open with a single press of the button, check the boot pops open with a single press of the button (if it doesn't it will need new boot popper assist springs/cheap easy fix), check the boot gas struts hold the boot open (if not it will need new gas struts/again fairly cheap to fix), if original exhaust check for blowing/rust on rear back box & pipes, check for rust/bubbling on rear quarters by wheel arches (common place for rust to start), listen for rear diff clicking (common fault but most fixed already or done on warranty)... there are more things to check but some come under the normal checks with buying any second hand/used vehicle.

Some of the faults I've listed aren't major but it may help with haggling a lower price.

Good luck and hope it's a good one.

Just trying to highlight potential 'inaccuracies' to help you critique the car, maybe you'd describe a car with clear bolster wear as the above but I wouldn't.

Personally I wouldn't be bothered about a bit of bolster wear, in fact my car has some of its very own.

The rear bumper below the boot looks like it has a massive key mark across it, I wouldn't call it a light scratch?

Been looking at it today and think its a bit over priced.

the scratch looks worse in the 'flesh'.

all tyres will need replacing very soon and tracking and alignment doing.

exhaust is blowing badly from the flange (tee hee hee) on the back box.

there was some panels that had been resprayed that he wasnt aware of but had been professionaly done by the looks of it.

lots of rust on the subframe

leather seats were spot on though.

think if he accepted £6500 id be tempted but keeping looking for better cars

At least you've managed to set a benchmark for what you can expect for your money. Like the rest of the guys here said, take your time and don't part with your money until you get that tingly feeling when you sit in the car - or quote from Avatar "You'll know it's the one because it'll try to kill you"
