marzman Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi guys, not sure if this is really obvious, but on my 05 GT do i have hids? if so can i change the bulb or something to make them more white? Cheers Wjen you turn them on do they flicker very slightly first, before appearing to warm up and get brighter? Is so they're HIDs. If you have them you can buy bulbs off eBay for about £9 each. You need to buy D2R bulbs, and you just need to increase the colour temperature. I think the standard bulbs are only 4300k which are very yellow. I have 10000k in my car and they are perfect white, but i might try 12000k next time for a bit more of a bluish tint. Quote
x20drb Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 brilliant, so these would be okay you reckon http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-D2R-HID-XENON-BULBS-PAIR-35W-12000K-PREMIUM-/380336164648?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item588dcd4f28 Cheers Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi I have HID on dipped headlights, but looks like standard bulbs on Main Beam as very yellow, or am I dreaming..!! Quote
x20drb Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 yeah thats a good point, i think mine are hids on dipped (they do the flickery thing) but i dont think so on main beam? how can i check if they are both hids? and is that link for the dipped beams? Quote
FUG Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Would be intrigued to change mine for better bulbs but they look like a right pita to change! Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Halfrauds said they will change any bulb for £4.50, so I took them my X5 to change a side light bulb, real s**it job..hour later they finished, not bad for £4.50...take it there..! Quote
Sam Mcgoo Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Hi I have HID on dipped headlights, but looks like standard bulbs on Main Beam as very yellow, or am I dreaming..!! No that is correct. If you have the pre facelift DE car, they have HID dipped beam and normal High beam. The facelift lights are BI-Xenon so are HID on both. Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Thanks Sam. Mine is April 2006, so just missed out on been the face lift model. Can you fit Bi-Xenon to the pre-facelift ?. If so whats involved. Thanks. Quote
M13KYF Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Be careful though, the more blue, the less effective they are at lighting up the road 1 Quote

If so whats involved. Thanks. Should be a straight swap but if you can find a pair for less than £800 then you're doing well. Quote

rtbiscuit Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 i went for 6500k when i swapped bulbs, idea being to whiten up the light, but not lose to much lighting 1 Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 Can I not just swop the High Beam bulbs for HID's ? Quote
Dicky Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I believe HID' s would need the appropriate additional circuitry to drive them ie ballest which increases the voltage to the HID. If it were a straight swap I'd go for it myself cos my headlights are crap Quote
WhackyWill Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I remember fitting just bulbs to my RX300 and it had HID for dipped and normal bulbs for main beam and all i did was change the bulb on the main beam to HID bulbs. My son has just changed the bulbs in his Golf Mk4 to HID bulbs...im now confused..!!! Quote
x20drb Posted January 22, 2013 Author Posted January 22, 2013 Just recieved the 10k bulbs i ordered, just popped my bonnet then...uh? no room round the back of the headlight to change the bulbs? Any ideas? cant see any videos or guides to help? can it be that hard? Hope someone can help! Quote
scubapics Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I think you have to go in through the inner wheel arch. Which bulbs did you get? Quote
