Roof and clutch warranty issues

I've posted before about both issues so sorry for boring you all again but I need some more help please

Looking at my paperwork my warranty is called Premium Care 3-7 80K and it runs out in September so I would like to get as much work done under warranty as I can. I'm not having a lot of luck so far mind you.

My roof leaked and was ripped a little on the driver's side. Nissan have replaced the roof seal and glued down the patches that were covering the ripped area. I've not actually driven the car in the rain since so I am not sure if the roof still leaks or not but I appreciate that Nissan have done their best with that particular issue. Unfortunately, the rip repair was completely unsuccessful and the patch came unglued on the five mile drive back from the dealership

The garage agreed to replace the entire roof if I contributed half the cost. I agreed to pay £600 and the car was duly booked in. When I turned up, however, the dealership denied all knowledge and asked me what I was doing there  Given that they had 'phoned to book the car in and sent me a text to confirm the booking I was a bit cross. A couple of days later they rang me to say that they could book me in again in a fortnight's time to have the roof replaced but that it would be an aftermarket roof rather than Nissan. I told them not to bother as I wanted my car to remain a Nissan through and through and what guarantee would I have that an aftermarket roof would even fit?

The other problem is that the clutch biting point becomes extremely low after I have driven for any length of time but then recovers once the car cools down. The dealership explained in an extremely patronising fashion that I was either a) imagining the problem or B) had got my driver's side mat on top of my clutch pedal  They refused to do anything because they had not witnessed a problem. Forum members have explained the true nature of the problem to me and I know where to get the parts

I recently spoke to the salesman who sold me the car and he advised me to go to another garage to get the problems fixed. He seemed to think that some of the work should be done under warranty even if I took the car to another garage. Does that sound right? And, if so, did he mean that I needed to take it to another Nissan dealership?

I thought I would get as much information as I could and then ring the owner of the garage to try to sort things out. I am not expecting Nissan to replace consumables etc under warranty but I was hoping for a bit better service than I have so far received.

When I had my 350 roadster, I had problems with the roof, and Nissan warranty, I called them, they said that the roof is not covered under any warranty and is actually classed as.........TRIM, go figure

So I explained that the TRIM actually keep the inside of the car dry and therefore cant be called TRIM, it was like talking to a brick wall. So, in their opinion, the roof has nada to do with the bodywork at all.

Clutch, general wear N tear I think they will put it down to.

Annie - is maybe time to go straight to Nissan HQ - Martinmac dealt with them over long period of time re roof.

Was it actually one of their techies that spoke to you about your clutch or just some front desk person? Sometimes you will actually get more sense out of one of the workshop lads opnce they realise you aren't just a dumb blonde driving a 'pretty' car

You could well be right Hugh. They don't seem very clued up about 350Zs but I assumed that they would be more at ease with the Micras and Notes? Who knows?

Vik, I've spoken to so many people now that I can't quite remember who is who  I have definitely spoken to someone called Pete in the body shop about the roof issues but I think that the message regarding the clutch was relayed to me via a front desk person. I hadn't thought of going directly to Nissan HQ. I will see if Tim Leighton will do anything to help and then see if I can escalate it to their HQ. Thanks

Thanks Colin. Will is always nice and helpful and I'm glad that he has had a good result

:teeth: sorry to hear you are still having issues. In all honesty i can't add any more advice than that that i posted last time but i'll give it a go.

Zugara is correct the roof material is not covered by the warranty but the mechanics are. But The nissan garage where i bought my 350 replaced all the seals as an act of goodwill as the leak was unacceptable.

I was more careful with the 370 purchase. When i bought the car i made them confirm that any potential issues with the hood and roof mechanics would be covered by the warranty as i had seen the problems some owners had. The only information they could find was the canadian warranty which mentioned the whole car was covered. As a result they agreed they would cover the roof material. Since then they have kept their word and everything i have asked for they have fixed or are paying to be fixed.

You shouldnt need to return to the same garage. If its a nissan warranty you can take it to any nissan garage - try that. Another place may be more knowledgable. Take my recent example, went to one nissan garage and a month later they didnt know how to Fix the roof. Drove into a nissan performance specialist monday and without even looking at the car they diagnosed the problem and said its a small job and they can fix it under warranty. Its all about finding the right place.

I would say though that if the hood had those rips when you bought it the garage could turn around and say you should have known what you were buying. Pity they have gone back on their word as i thought a 50/50 split of the bill was generous.

Given the huge cost of a new roof i would perhaps enquire as to what this non standard roof is going to be, it may be fine. Have you contacted a specialist roof repair place yet to get a quote? Perhaps you could then go back and ask them to pay halfof that.

Hope you get it sorted.

Thanks again Will :) I wasn't actually expecting any more advice from you as you've already been very helpful but what you have said makes sense. It is probably as I thought and the garage that I've been dealing with knows more about the cars it sells in the greatest quantities rather than performance vehicles
