Mrdeli Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 From a steady 30mph start to 70mph-ish in 3rd gear, my brother and I paced our two cars today. To my delight, the Zed was still just about a meter behind his boot at the end - I have new respect for the Zed The Zed is even quicker than I though Quote
haytonz Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 yeah but 135i are fast and light try him on a 0-60 race or throw in some corners then you will beat him Quote
Mrdeli Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 Ha I'm not sure I'll beat him - the 135i is seriously fast - 3 litre twin turbo!! I was expecting to be thrashed, thought the zed did brilliantly!! Quote
Ekona Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 yeah but 135i are fast and light try him on a 0-60 race or throw in some corners then you will beat him If the BMW stops for a Burger King, maybe. I know which is the quicker (and more expensive) car, but I know which I'd rather drive for a hoon. Quote
haytonz Posted May 5, 2012 Posted May 5, 2012 thinking the same thing but thought i might offend someone by putting it on Quote
Mrdeli Posted May 5, 2012 Author Posted May 5, 2012 Official is about 5.2, but most magazine tests show around 4.7 (the official time was blunted to stop M3 owners getting upset) Quote
rtbiscuit Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 its nice when you have the opportunity to use an open track day to test these things or a private road Quote
tprice Posted May 6, 2012 Posted May 6, 2012 i can confirm the 135i 0-60 is quicker than the official bmw stats! very nice, well built car! Quote
l1lbill Posted May 7, 2012 Posted May 7, 2012 Official is about 5.2, but most magazine tests show around 4.7 (the official time was blunted to stop M3 owners getting upset) I read that somewhere too, my mate has a 135 and it is stupid fast, feels alot quicker than the zed i must say but i guess only one way to find out...... Quote
Posidrive Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Look on the bight side. People smile when they see a Zed but the series 1 BMWs are visually as bland and boring as they come. Quote
docwra Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 I know which is the quicker (and more expensive) car, but I know which I'd rather drive for a hoon. Yep. And I would add Im surprised that the Z is quicker at any speed TBH, the 335i I drove was faster than mine pretty much everywhere and obviously weighs more than a 135. Seeing as it went round Laguna Seca faster than a 370, and has 295 lb/ft at 1500 rpm and there are at least 10 videos showing 135's going past 350's on youtube, Id say you were a bit lucky Quote
rtbiscuit Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 it looks like your mate can't drive that or you're senna reincarnated Quote
gangzoom Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 Tell your brother to get a JB4/JB+ tuning box fitted..these are WHP reading This apparently what the engine unit makes with down pipes (£600), cold air intake (£100), and JB4 box (£320). So about £1K you can get close to M3 power levels!! Going to stick my 355i on a RR soon to see what the JB+ and intercooler have done to BHP but my butt dyno tells me its a lot quicker than my old Z .... must resist fitting downpipes... Quote
Stew Posted May 8, 2012 Posted May 8, 2012 The 35i and d for that matter are brilliant engines. I'd easily have a 3 or a 5 with the 35i engine in it. Quote
Mrdeli Posted May 9, 2012 Author Posted May 9, 2012 Wow that's a huge increase. I think DMS do a good remap too - sure I read about it in evo a while back. Wish the z had a turbo !! Quote
