how fast is a 350z in the real world

I'm probably going to go for a 350z I'm not bothered about lap times along as you can still have fun in the z. I'd imagine it would still have the edge on a straight. I'd hate to upgrade and then to be overtaken on a straight by a Clio lol. Thanks fo the opinions

A 182 will be quicker on track and on the roads. A 350Z will be more satisfying to learn to drive quickly, and is a far more refined drive. Depends on what you want really.

+1

Totally agree with this imo. Had a Clio 182 for 4 1/2 years and was mental oriental car for the cost and really good fun to drive. Now having owned the 350 for about 7 months, it's definately a far more refined drive and a big old lump. Definatley satisfying on how to learn to drive this car properly so to speak.

Hi fella - I own a Clio 197 and have moved to a 350z driven it a few times (cant drive fully yet.. another story). The 350z sounds a lot better and feels a lot better. The Clio 197 is fantastic around the corners as is the 350z but they are two completely different cars take a few for a test drive and make your mind up! (p.s MPG on the 350z is 22/24MPG Clio 197 is 24-25 and I know the 182 does close to 30 so you may be in for a shock....)

i apologise for not reading all the replies,

BUT .

i dont really need to.

it doesnt matter if you buy a veyron or a clio, there will allways be someone who will drive faster / beat you.

i went through evos like a baby through nappies, i did track days, i had driving courses at bruntingthorpe with a guy who i cant even remember who left 3 of us for dead in his golf diesel, idid a lotus track day driving course on a skid pad at crail, etc etc and then i spent an f ing fortune on mods.

and the lesson was,

there is allways someone faster than you.

if your buying a car to boost your ego because its fast, save your money. and buy viagra :teeth:

buy the car YOU want, do what YOU want to it, and enjoy it because its YOURS

and **** any one else.

Hi Latza, hope i can help!

I've just bought a 350z a couple of weeks ago and its surprised me so much. Far more of a car than i ever gave them credit for and will teach me in the future not to just look at figures etc  .

I own an Integra Type R still which i've had for 7 years(currently stripped out and has maybe 210 hp/tonne) It flies through the gears(0-100mph in just under 12 seconds) but in the REAL WORLD the 350z is a far quicker car. Maybe on some back lanes the Integra would be quicker but 99% of the time the Z is the quicker car. The engine pulls so well from down below and would make a 182/Integra feel slow MOST of the time.

With the 350z you're getting a whole lot of car, it feels wrong that these are around £7000 these days. Driving it is a pleasure and the car feels very special indeed, its so effortless compared to what i've been used to and it would feel like that to you im sure :D

As for afew of the comments about the 182 being the quicker track car in standard form, thats far from the truth. All track tests by motoring jornalist have the 350z well ahead but it just takes abit more skill to drive a RWD car fast compared to a FWD car so afew personal experiences may give different opinions.

Great video Neilp! Hopefully you have afew more videos to look at? :) Despite the clio being stripped with alot more hp than standard and exiting the bends quicker your 350 had more than enough grunt to pull it in.

Oooof!! Just seen this thread, read through and watched the Vid. Nice vid Neil btw! I've done the whole "how fast is it" thread myself, been on here for a bit now, but watching that vid.... still gives a shock. It looks like the Zed struggles to keep up with the Clio (yes i realise its stripped etc. If not would the Zed simply pass it??). You've no idea watching that how much I choked for 2:00 to come... i'm sittin watching it thinking... "Go on! Go on!!... god dammit GO ON MY SON!!" lol!.My mate has a Clio 182....and I HAVE had a shot in it. My impressions were... how god awfully cheap they were and felt inside, like it would fall apart. BUT it is RAPID... to put it childishly...even if..when floored things shake, rattle and roll lol  Didn't think it'd show a Zed some heels though. Thank god the power surged up and got passed lol. Still not put me off though... B) Thats whats appealing about the Zed, speed, power, luxury (and I don't mean like...Audi BMW, special cows a*rse leather...I mean the essentials of more kit, leather seats, cruise, heated seats, air con, decent dash layout), and the LOOKS. Spec other cars to that level...even the metal pedals on other cars!... and your lookin' 10-20K more when they were new. You won't feel short changed going from a Clio to the Zed, and track wise... I'm sure it'll still put a smile on your face. :teeth:

lol that is a fast clio lol, the 205 has an mi-16 turbo in it also lol

the same day i managed to pass a f355 on the straight lol...

That clio is always at the track up there and the guy knows how to drive it well. You will be surprised at what you can take over easily and then very surprised at what you struggle to get by lol.

Knockhill is a very small track as its originally a motorbike track. On a much more open circuit i reckon the zed would do much better. The clio is perfect for the track and due to being so light it shifts through the corners.

Tbh i was the same i was choking to get by him, i thought i had him and then the gt3 appeared and I had to move to give way lol. What surprised me more was I always caught him in the corners which i thought would be when the clio would be at its best.

All cars are different, the key is to always have fun

Yeah the GT3 RS didn't mince about did it?! :scare: lol Hate Porsches but I have a soft spot for GT3 RS's...must be cos' there so different to the normal... 'I work in a bank' ones lol. Yeah I noticed the 205 was quite fast! Can I ask Neil do you know what your bhp is? You done any mods (I know the Zeds not exactly mod friendly for massive power gains... or so I read on this).

A good mate of mine has a clio 197 and he loves it to pieces, he test drove a corsa vxr amongst others but went for the clio. He had a go in the Zed the other day and was mightily impressed, said it just 'felt' fast, from the noise, the torque through the revs even the seating position just made it more of an experience

Wait till you see how fast the m3 comes by me when i start chasing down the evo lol

This is one of my first trackdays at knockhill and i'm very aware of the run offs being short and dangerous so I'm not pushing on too hard. Coming out the hair pin behind the fezza my traction control was going mental as I hadnt turned it off, so it took me a while to get out that zone where the cars holding back.

When it comes down to it just enjoy the 350Z for what it is, a very capable GT car with a nice feel, which is rewarding to drive quickly, its never going to the be fastest thing out there, i came for big powered turbo cars,

but still enjoy my Skyline 350GT (350Z with four seats) for what it is.
