Sports cars tempting me back......

Its all too easy to have a quick shuftie on the Autotrader App whilst watching some dull programme on the telly!

I notice how zed prices have dropped significantly... but worse RX8 prices good grief! Yet G35 prices seem to be stable (for a manual anyway in something other than Silver!)

Since I am working from home more these days that petrol hit is not as bad as it used to be when I had my Zed.

Its very tempting to get a Zed again (Night Blue of course) Coupe this time I think? But.... no airbag switch off for baby seat and I dont want to mess with it for obvious safety reasons (that old thread still doing the rounds I see?)

So if I was going back into sports motoring my obvious choice is a Rex again. Same as I had black 231 with red/black interior. Great as nobody likes that colour combination. I just need to convince Lucy, the pram and assorted paraphanalia for a holiday trip will fit in the boot etc (I know it will I had one before!!) but.... can I go back to the roadtax and insurance expense? My cube is sooo cheap practical and cool.

The G35 is off the list - far too expensive to buy/run etc and they dont do them in the 313 engine.

So Rex it is one day - have you seen how cheap they are? To think I got one brand new when they came out (crazy fool that I was) :surrender:

If I do get a Rex can I still come to the meets if I sticky tape a Zed badge over the top?

Colin will no doubt have to teach me how to drive it correctly :D

yeah but the rex are gutless compared with the zed and dont look as good

Prefered the handling in the rex and thought the cabin was better , i too had the red black leather

If your strapped for cash Rex are cheap but then comes with the paranoia of the compression issues and 18mpg at best

you know the Zed is more but looks better goes better and more reliable.....

a few weeks in the rex and you will want a zed again

my rex only lasted a few months

Alright Stan

A REX....Whats that noise, oh its the oil tanker following you about

You could save your self the time and hassle and just buy my car

Hi mate

They were'nt that bad - well considering! I only get about mid 20's in the van and I use that for work. :)

Then its the oil top ups - were a faff as it was always in the peeing rain and blowing a gale but I did love the way it handled and the washing machine motor noise B)

Why you selling yours?

yes but the Zed only has 2 seats! Thats why the G35 was a consideration. I would need to do more research really been away from Rex's for a while now. What compression issues?

Why is everyone selling their zeds?

Hey if I was to get a zed again it would only be Interlagos fire or Night Blue my absolute fave colours! But hey airbags my friends are not my friend in the Zed.

Make sure you keep in touch and send pictures over. Guy I work with just came back from living there - only because his wife wanted to see family etc but I know he is itching to get back - sounds like a good place /country to live.

Andrew

It has to be 4 seats and boot, jap (no bleedin beemers I cant stand them) or Golfs or Seats or you get the picture! Worse case I get a 300C again (with a warranty extension) I liked my Rex they were'nt that bad on fuel and they are super cheap now.

regards to compression issues you only need ten mins looking at posts on the owners clubs to give you

permanent paranoia regarding compression and engine failures.

The engine is flawed which is why they fitted another oil injector on the last variant of the RX8

If your looking at a rex again i wouldnt buy without having a hot compression test at a specialist, too risky.

I really wanted to love my Rx but the performance didnt warrant the running costs

Saying that at 3k for one now it might be worth the risk , still a lot of car for very little money

Ah......and out come the RX8 haters as usual

You know what I would say Stan :teeth: Seemed like it was only me and you who ever defended the car on here.

£4k for an RX8. If the engine goes, its only another £1500 - £2000 for a rebuild. So you've still got a great sportscar that you know you already like for £6k.

Not to mention, whilst getting it rebuilt you could get it street ported and get yourself a few more horses out of it too.

Thanks mate. The one reason why I held off buying one second hand before was not knowing how it had been treated /mistreated. I treated mine very well like I do all my cars but you used to see them by the roadside bonnets up - fools not topping up the oil etc!

Thanks for the advice.

Ha Rex I wondered if you were online B) There really is nothing like it for all round practicality and fun and well the price. I still miss mine. Maybe do some proper research and see what the issues are and if I can live with that? Well there enough on the road so they cant al be that bad can they?

Good to hear from you Lexx

Ah......and out come the RX8 haters as usual

I did not say I hated them, just you need an oil tanker in convoy

The interiors are superb, it has space for 4, and the seats :cloud9:

I looked at them before I got the Zed..... and I just did not like the fact you had to rev the just off it to have some fun.

There were only 2 things that annoyed me - the waiting for the engine to warm up if you just wanted to move it a few yards before switch off and the fact that a car requiring regular oil checks and top ups did'nt have an oil filler by the front wing!

When you say G35 are you meaning only g35's or have you been looking at v35 skylines? Im sure they are about 6k. I say e36 m3

yes the Infinity G35 or skylines whatever you want - but £6K for auto's they are all sodding silver autos! The odd rare blue manual pops up but its £1500 more and it has the earlier engine. I liked my 313 engine. I just dont think they are worth the money to be fair. So cashwise the Rex wins hands down (plus its got a superior interior fit and finish)

But enough dreaming lets do some research and well realistically the Cube stays until I can justify something like a Rex.

Family guy now! :)

If you are wanting a RX8 type car, surely some sort of VTEC (Yo!) lump must be also be considered?

1) Quality driving experience? ....check!

2) Bombproof engine? .....check!

2) Iffy MPG? .....check!

3) Lacks the torque to pull the skin of a rice pudding? .....check!

Hi Bronzee

I still love the Cube dont worry but I do miss having somethig that handles a bit better. I supposed a suspension drop and stiffer shocks help but its not a car to treat like that :)

Chris I keep looking at G35's (there is one near where I live - Silver - yaaaawn) but compared to a Rex its no contest.

Anyway with suicide doors I can fit even more cakes - and loads more in the Cube !! Even the Infinity stealer at Stockport has a white Cube on the forecourt.

Keep researching and well Uncle Lexx's supercharger idea sounds good - wonder if Alex has the spares..... :snack:
