Replacement Clutch..... cost ???

Recommended Posts

Hi guys - just having my JDM Import Z have its P2 service (@ Glyn Hopkins - Watford) and asked the guy to check the clutch as it was a little heavy (not sure what clutches should be like on these?).

When he called me back he said I needed a new clutch and flywheel which would cost me £1018.00!!!!!!!! I was like WTF!! So said no to replacing that...

I`m sure the clutch on my old Boxster was cheaper to replace!! Seriously.. what is the deal... ? Anyone know a decent independant in or around NW London who can do this job for me at a cheaper price ??

Had them look at the clicking noise which seems the norm on most Z's and he quoted me £300 to sort it (i.e. only re-greasing etc not replacing the parts) which he said would cost £500 more on top!... Is this about right ??

Any help would be great...! Cheers...

from what you say "a little heavy " this is not an unusual observation of the Zed clutch action when coming from another car, probably everything is OK , have you tried another Zed for comparison..? also how many miles has your car covered? :)

I found my clutch very heavy compared to my last car, Took a while to get used to it. Could just be that you find the clutch heavier until you get used to it a bit more ?

i also noticed a big difference when changing from the integras light clutch to the z

i also spoke to my mechanic about upgrading it and he recconed 4 - 5 hours to complete the job

so i think it could be done a lot cheaper if you shop arround

HTH :D

hi guys,

sorry for my ignorance, why does the flywheel needs changing? i thought they don't wear out?

You can get lighter ones which will increase response time but there are other factors to bare in mind, such as possible irratic idling and if you are not used to it, bunny hopping and stalling in low revs or traffic

lightweight flywheels on our cars tend to chatter quite loudly, depending on the flywheel.

Really? Is that a bad thing?

The Z has a dual mass flywheel fitten as standard to prevent this from happening. IMO you should stick with the OEM one.

depends on which flywheel you fit, apparently.

personally after having seen a Z rev with a lightweight flywheel, I can't give a toss about chatter..... the difference is substantial

Is the outcome that noticeable? Im still in 2 minds over more power or better response
