don't no if this is in the right place but I need urgent help the garage av put me car in for service have just come back to is say the back plugs are filling with oil and the seals on the plus and rocker cover have gone ? Are they taking the **** here or is this actually a fault the car felt nice and no smoke was coming out the back before I give them it now there saying that they tuck the plugs out and it's filling with oil ??

Help please

There are a few members who swear by the place. In fact someone posted up very recently about them.

 

Personally I wouldnt touch them. But I know friends who've been shafted.

 

Each to their own.

 

Have they given you any explanation as to whats caused the problem?

I've tried to make sense of you rambling - probably brought on by the shock no doubt.

 

Sounds to me that they are saying that the rocker oil seal has gone and this is causing oil to enter the recess where the plugs are screwed into the head. The oil may have caused the seals on the coil caps on the spark plugs to go as well.

 

All sounds plausible. Go see them and ask them to show you/explain. If that's all it is then it shouldn't be much bother to fix. Nothing major.

Yeah sorry was very p'd off and went off on one :blush: quite embarrassed now haha but it's my baby and I thought they were taking the p@s

But after abit reading It looks like it is a common fault with the rocker cover and the only way to fix it is to replace the covers as the spark plug seals are stuck in the covers .

So from what you are saying the seals on the cam cover that seal it to the spark plug tubes have failed on one or more plugs. Yes a common problem. The fix is a replacement cam cover as the seals are not available separately. Not totally convinced that it causes a problem as engine oil is non conductive but still not nice knowing that there is a bit of oil around the plugs. I would ensure they didnt take the plugs out without first sucking the oil out otherwise it will get into the combustion chamber and either hydraulic lock that cylinder or get burnt and potentially damage the cat. My advice is to change it or try reseating it..its a easy job just a bit fiddley.....

Yeah mate that's what am more or less saying , I will see what they have done when I get down there at 9.

Talk to Zmanalex and he confirmed what av read that the plug seals have perished but they are sealed in the covers and can not bechanged separately so sadly it's now covers and gasket set I will need , will up date with how it gose and prices of things so if it happens to anyone else u have a rough idea what things cost ,

Just to keep anyone that wants to no informed

I contacted Nissan for the cover's need witch come to £230 per side and £21 for gaskets , so total was £481

The legend that is zemanalex got me second hand ones for a fraction of the price :thumbs:

Any way this is even better than the first fault when I was in the bank sorting things out I got a phone call from a garage and never guess what they said ?

That they had made a mistake and fitted my clutch the wrong way, now I can only try and be Carm but this will only work for so long cause am getting irritated by the lack of care "this garage " has . Anyway moral of the story is don't go to "this garage" ever !!

Not really if you no someone like zmanalex , it's more of the irritation that has come with it saying as I have spent a fortune doing her up , it initially went in for plugs , clutch/flywheel , oil /filter , pads ( which isn't cheap including labour) then for them to come back with all this was like an unexpected kick in the nuts,

Ok I over reacted abit with the cover part but I thought they were trying it on but for them to ring back about an hour later to say they put the clutch in the wrong way is crazy . They are refitting it for free but that's not really the point the car is my baby and I expect people that's happy taking my money to respect my car .

oh i totally understand your frustration, i remember when on my smart roadster they came back and said i had a crack in my fuel tank, i completely thought they were having me on etc.. as i couldnt imagine how it happens, but it is a fault that does happen on them if you hit bad bumps etc.. but its when someone tells you and sort of holds thier breath when they mention costs.

 

TBh wasnt too bad as was living at home at the time so had the money but was still an odd £400 to fix when your not expecting it, its a pain in the arse.

 

But out of interest your problem how much we talking like £100s or £500s?

OK, Michael as you now know, fitting of a replacement flywheel wronly appears to be an occuring issue with some garages.

 

This should not really happen as firstly, most replacement flys do come with illustrated fitment instructions and common sense must prevail.

 

With the Fidanza Fly you do have to be careful as there are two options for fitment.

 

One is clearly marked FRONT for Maxima & Altima.

 

The other is clearly marked REAR for 350Z, G35 & G37.

 

On other applications available purely for RWD such as 350Z, G35 & C37 there is only one fitment application, so wrong fitment becomes almost impossible.

 

This is the application that was sent to your garage and how they managed to fook up is totally beyond me. :wacko::scare:

 

There is a male pin on the crank which slots into the female hole on the fly. :thumbs: simples.

 

This has all to do with the CPS (crank position sensor) picking up the correct signal from the fly.

 

It is so important that these types of cars are only worked on by specialists, however it is to your garage's credit that they have held there hands up and admitted the error of there ways.

 

I have lost count of the number of garages (including Nissan Main Dealers) who have phoned me after fitting one of my fly/clutch kits with the usual: "I wonder if you can help me, but I have just fitted one of your clutch/fly kits and the car is not running right." :doh::doh::doh::surrender::surrender::surrender:

 

The best advice that I can give you, in this instance Michael is to wait until you get the car back from them and judge then on the end product.

If there are still issues then send in the cavalry. :lol::lol::lol:

 

There is also now the added complication of the DE fly being different from the HR fly.

 

I know of a well respected trader on this forum who ordered from me a HR fly and fitted it to a DE motor, of course the car would not start and they phoned me with there concerns and after a short conversation I was able to offer the solution.

 

Moral of the story is that we all can make mistakes as every day is a school day :thumbs:

Ok got car back gears and everything working fine, they apologised like mad and give me a slight discount for my troubles ( not much but can't complain) they also said if I had any trouble to bring it back and they would adjust anything and everything for free ( which is good of them )

So summary of what av had done- Clutch / fly wheel changed, Spark plugs, Oil and filter, Brake pads, Wheel alignment -Total £500 ( including there discount ) £550 without.

Review of the garage -

sales man was nice and polite and through out kept me informed of what was happening and why .

Mechanic - can't really comment as I didn't see him working but made a few mistakes along the way and was the one that told me to bring it back for anything that felt wrong .

So I must say that I over reacted quite abit and let my frustration get the better of me , ever since the clutch incident they have been helpful and went out there way to make sure am happy with it , so they have redeemed there self's abit .

Maybe I've just got used to prices down here but £500 seems very cheap to me for all that - given that I think the standard labour charge for changing the plugs alone is normally quite a bit.

The clutch feels good could do with abit adjusting but that might just be me as I got used to a slipping one for alittle while until I could save up for it haha

car rev's a hell of alot quicker with the reduced flywheel

Just waiting on the rocker covers and gasket sets to come and toying with the idea of waiting till I get a cosworth intake manifold and get them done at the same time to save on labour costs

Will update again when am getting these fitted so people no prices if interested :thumbs:
