350z GT4 verses 350z 06

Afternoon all,

I'm on the hunt for a Zed and have been looking at the 06 models onwards but have found a nice looking 05 plate GT4 which I understand has the same engine as the 06 model ie 296bhp, on top of that it has a friendlier price tag but I was wondering what other difference there may be?

I understand it is a personal choice but I'd be interested to know what peoples preference between the two models would be and why.

Although I have not seen a GT4 in the flesh I much prefer the look of the standard rays on the 06 model, should I but the GT4 and want to buy the 06 wheels are these easy to come by and what sort of money would I be looking at for a tidy set?

Many thanks chaps.

PS - I'm no spring chicken at almost 36 years old and I'm excited like a small child on Christmas eve at the prospect of getting a tasty car again....I even woke up in the night full of the joys about what I'm going to do with it....tragic but true!

The 06 has a better quality interior I'm sure. Led rear lights and bi-xenon headlight. Unsure if the gt4 has this but normal 05 plates don't.

The rays (06 wheels) are around but are pricey.

If there's a massive saving then go with gt4 but if it's similar then defo the 06 plate as the interior is much better quality plastic lol and u have door pockets and centre cup holders

Rays are easily available for sub £800 - infact what you'd get for the LMGT4s that are on the GT4 would nicely offset the rays if not actually manage a straight swap with another member on here

Basically any part you thought you might 'miss' off a post 06 zed would be offset with what you'll save on a pre-06 car in terms of initial layout and road tax....remember you also save over £200 on the RFL  and you'd pick up the parts on here way cheaper than you'd expect

WHATEVER! :wacko::shrug:

The advice I've given is still entirely valid ...you'd easily get a swap or a good offset by selling the LM1GT4s - I certainly wouldn't let a couple of things missing off a pre 06 car put me off a good example especially if I was planning on modding anything like wheels...good luck Dean

Thanks for the input so far, good to know that little things like rear light clusters are available for reasonable money.

This is the car I'm considering http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1784549.htm does anyone know it?

The thinking behind the GT4 is that I still get the 296bhp kick without the pain of parting with over £400 on road tax, plus it leaves me with a couple of quid for mods, I fancy having the seats, gear stick, hand brake and bottom part of the steering wheel retrimmed in dark red much like the 370z dark edition and I can get a private plate I have had my eye on too.

At the end of the day anything from an 03 import to an 08 roadster, you will :cloud9: it !

Just find the best example you can for what you can afford, I wouldn't worry too much about mileage there are plenty of us on here with high mileage cars with no problems at all, the engine is bulletproof, just things like the clutch and gearbox that are the weak links really.

The cosmetic differences don't outweigh the extra tax on the 06+ IMO

Whatever you decide on and buy there will always be a better one on autotrader or here the next week, thats life :headhurt:

Yup - that needs to be coming in at £12.5k or less. Interested to know what exhaust has gone on recently and if it was needed or a simply a mod :)

I was thinking the same regarding price, I've been in touch with the owner today and said my budget is 12.5k (which seems the right price to me) but he is set on 13k minium which I'm not keen on paying, especially as the tax is due and it has been on sale for a month.

I asked about the exhaust as it didn't look standard but I'm told by the owner that it is.

Oh well, back to autotrader and pistonheads.....

Having had both 276 and 296 engined 350's don't be put off that one has 20bhp less - IMO for road use the 276 has better torque characteristics. You can of course spend more money (not a huge amount) on an up-rev & decats to improve the driveability/power of either standard engine though ;)

i really disagree. The interior was the only thing that kept dropping the 350z points.

Also if you wait and think hard about what you want and then what u can afford to get you will be much happier than just buying any car.

I bought my 350z from the main dealer and have never seen another zed for sale in this country that id rather have.

Dont jump into it, there are plenty for sale, also great prices for some for sale on the forum.

good luck with the buy

I'm in no rush as I have my work horse diesel focus to get me about and the wifes golf GT which is quite good fun so I'll wait for the right one to come along but it's just annoying that when I was considering the Zed along with a few other makes (Clio V6, Evo Tommi Mak) there seemed to be plenty around that I liked and now I have finally decided to go with the Zed I can't seem to find the right spec at the right price.

I've had a look through the classified on here and there iwere not any 06 models I could see.

My 2 Ideal scenario's are black with orange leather, sat nav, full history and lots of tax and MOT left or no black leather but cheap enough to allow me to ge the plate I want and a retrim in red leather.

I could always wait it out until a 313 with the above falls into my price range.

Am i correct in thinking that there is someone on here who installs a decent sat nav? I'm sure i skim-read that somewhere recently, if so it makes the second car quite appealing.

Sat Nav........ viewtopic.php?f=38&t=24395&start=0
