not having a dig or rant sarah, just talking with people it comes up a fair amount, it was from one of these discussions that the poll was dreamt up. It just happened to be me that posted it but could have been someone else.

As i said this is a what the customer wants excercise not a witch hunt.

Chilli / CS - I don't think Husky means that all items you sell should be listed on the forum with the prices against them. It's more when a trader advertises a new product on the forum and they attach no price whatsoever and just finish the advert with a request to PM for pricing.

I don't think either of you are guilty of this

I still think there needs to be a third option - for second hand specially sourced and salvaged items you simply can't guarantee even a ball park figure

im not really sure what you getting at here, if you have a part for sale whatever part it might be you'll have a price in mind.. ? or would the price be different depending on post count or what? Maybe Im not understanding the q properly....

 Then I suggest you go back and read what I said last night Anders. :)

Only permanent in stock items can be priced and posted consistently - and I don't count OEM parts in that classification as Nissan change their prices all the time - especially for pre-facelift body parts.

To do this for salvaged and second hand items would not be realistic especially at the volumes that some traders deal in.

I mean what would you have traders do ?! Post up a full price list for everything they've got in every week?

Name me one car parts website that doesn't have the disclaimer "Prices are subject to change" :)

I think it's the 2nd hand part thats throwing us... If someone has something 2nd hand, then there should be no question about the price - it should be fixed, the same for all people. This is because there can only be one 2nd hand item in that condition, therefore allowing the price to fluctuate from seller to seller etc (not explaining this very well, i know).

But totally agree with specialist, or salvage parts...

If we're talking about salvage parts etc, then

Doesnt bother me much if they dont post a price, I will always ask a trader the best price they can do for me. If I've been a loyal customer, I'd expect a bit of extra discount. When I was hammering my 350z up and down the motorway and getting it serviced every 5 months, and getting it serviced at the same place every time, I got more discount, and rightly so, I was giving them good repeat business. I dont see this as any different.

However, I do prefer if a trader posts up an item specifically for sale then they give their current price for the item

 not agreed why should not prices be public? if someone asks for something a trader could just reply with a price who cares if it's fluctuating with time? we're not talking about putting full stocks on the interweb either allthough that would be a great idea for us consumers.. thats what we're talking about here ain't we? or are we talking about businesses that needs to make a profit to stay in business? < totally understand that but my interest is on the other side and so should all others interest on here be on the side of the end user not the other way around... I dont mind spending monies on a forum trader rather then going to the interweb and pay a nobody 3% less. The soft skills are far more important then price, customer service and shipping speed and quality of received goods, get sound advice on what to get etc and not be pointed to whatever is in stock...

:bang: I give up  I'm not repeating myself for a third time

cant put a third option in no i'm afraid without resetting the results.

i think its fair to say there are circumstances where you obviously cant put a price on like specialist parts etc.

for replacement parts like used stuff from breakers, that's also something difficult to put prices up for if the parts are just one off's.

but something that a trader sells more than one of it makes sense to post prices.

Doesn't really bother me whether they post prices or not.

If I want something then I will PM/email/phone anyone & everyone who stocks what I want & get the best deal for myself :)

One thing I don't get though is people saying "If theres no price stated, I asumme that I can't afford it" - Why?? If you cant be arsed to fire of a quick pm about then you obviousley don't want it bad enough to be moaning about it :p

Whats 'Wanting it bad enough' got to do with anything? If i did really want something then yes, i probably would PM... but how about when im browsing? If im making a plan for what i want to do to my car, i cant make that plan if i cant see the prices to anything. Imagine if you were browsing on eBay, and you had to email the sellers for the price, on every item you were interested in... what a ball ache - you just dont bother

Depends what im looking for ;)

If its something thats pretty rare then I go straight to Adam@Z1 or RHDJapan

 maybe start another thread? would be good to know actually...

the difficult one is, if you pm'd for prices, where do you stand about posting the price you paid up? thats a common question, how much did you pay.

And its a question I hate being asked

why? Is it a secret or what?
