glrnet Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Hi, How long does your water temperature gauge take to reach normal from cold? By cold I mean left garaged overnight during the recent warm weather. Mine is at normal in no more than 0.75 mile, it just seemed quick to me and I wondered if this is normal. It doesn't appear to increase at all after this so hopefully nothing to worry about? Quote
Zugara Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Mine is about 1 mile from cold, stored outside. Quote
M13KYF Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 as long as it runs at constant temp once warmed up then its fine. Better to warm up quickly than slowly I would of thought Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Its designed to have a quick warm up, its a compact all aluminium V6, that also runs a thermostat bypass all the time. Quote
Stretch Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Mines also an 04 GT and when I first got her was quite surprised at how quick she came up to running temp but have since realised that's normal for the zed so theres nothing to be concerned about mate Quote
rayhoop Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Hi All, Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead.. Mmy car warms up quickly enough and the needle sits within the "normal range" on the gauge, but as it sits just below half way I was wondering whether this is normal? In my old Golfs, the needle used to sit slap bang in the middle of the gauge at 90.. Driving conditions being - taking it easy. Flowing A roads and Motorways. Current weather conditions. Not sitting in traffic. Totally standard car. I was wondering where your needle commonly sits under normal operation? Quote

Zugara Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Think you should start to worry if the temp creeps upward tbh Quote

rayhoop Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Lol @jokes Thanks for the confirmation and peace of mind guys :-) Quote
HassanZ Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 If you look carefully at the water temp gauge, you will see a very small dot/line right next to the circle the needle is attached to. At normal operating temp, the needle sits exactly on/just blow that mark. Quote
Sam Mcgoo Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 As all have said above, thats perfectly normal. Just for information, the temp gauge has a massive dampened zone in the middle. Once at the normal position even when the temps get 100+ C the needle hardly moves. Quote
rayhoop Posted March 5, 2012 Posted March 5, 2012 That is handy to know about the little marker and the dampened zone. It is worth adding those to the 'little known facts' thread! Quote
