R32 Owner From Japan

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I don't actually own a 350z, I own a R32 Skyline GT-R. I'm an American living in Japan, and as much as I like the exterior looks of the R32, the interior is just too old and bland, so I'm doing some upgrading by first installing a 350z dashboard and even door panels. My progress so far is minimal, as I just started, but the dash fits surprisingly well.

Some minor trimming, and modification of the stock a-pillar to bring it out smooth with the dash, and everything should look great.

Problem I am running into, is I can't get anyone in Japan to sell me the passenger side airbag cover.

Brand new from Nissan, I was quoted about $2000 US because they won't sell the cover without the airbag. Junkyards won't sell me the part, because supposedly it's illegal to sell a safety item that has already been destroyed. I can use one that the airbag already deployed, as I'll be recovering the dash anyways. So I'm expanding my search into the UK and Australia, hoping someone has something or knows of a junkyard that has the part and will sell it to me.

I'll be honest, I don't really intend to stay on the site after I find what I need, unless there is interest in the project, since I don't own a 350z, I probably can't be a contributing member. So I PM'd an admin asking if I could post a wanted ad.

Here's my full car BTW:

Changing wheels as soon as my new tires get here.

Yeah I saw that project, not sure how well the entire 350z dash mates up to a S14 chassis, but seems like it almost would have been easier for him to go the same route I did and use the entire 350z dash instead of modifying the OEM dash.

I will contact the people suggested. Thank you very much for the info!

Welcome to the forum. Cool looking R32. Interesting project, switching the dash and door cards over. Do the cards actually fit? Or near to?

I think out of everything, the door panels may be the most work. Main reason I want the door panels is because I want the vent. I may simply mold the vent from the 350z into my stock door panel to make things easier. Will also need to reshape the door panel a bit, but was planning on doing that anyways.
