Engine Management Light, SLIP and TCS

BRO-T

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Whilst driving tonight in the rain, I suddenly lost power whilst cruising in traffic at 30mph. Then the 3 warning lights came on, engine mangement, SLIP and TCS.

Any ideas what this means??

Turned the engine off, and its struggling to fire.

Thanks in advance

Sounds like it is going into limp mode. Will it only rev to about 1500 when this happens. Mine was doing that recently. Sent my ECU to Abbey. Might be a good idea to speak to Mark but you will probably need to read the error codes. Nurrish has one and I think your close to him aren't you?

Also make sure the MAF sensor doesn't have water in it. I think Nurrish said his car did something similar when he washed it with his vented bonnet.

Andy rang me and thats what I said but I think he's running the stock airbox so it would be unlikely

Cheers for ur advice guys. I can still drive it fine. Been extra cautious though. No limit on the revs that I can tell.

Struggling to fire is a worry though!! Do u think water has got into the engine bay??

Are there any fuses for the TCS??

More importantly, do u think it's safe to drive cos I've gotta get to work 2moz!!

Dammit! My car did exactly the same thing yesterday evening. Re-started the car and have no loss of power, no other warning lights and all levels are fine.e Car maybe sounds a little rough (I put it down to hypochondria!) and is going back to the dealers on Thursday.

How annoying!

U really think it could be my crank sensors.

How much are they? Does anybody know??

If it turns out to be cam or crank sensors then no drama as I have plenty

Probably just a glitch so fingers crossed :)

Alex.

I think your first step is to get the CEL code read ...

That should give you a good idea of where to start diagnosing the problem ...

Where abouts are you based?

There's a thread listing members with OBDII readers which you might want to check ...

Mini update as i've got to work today!

Car started first time but the engine mangement light popped up. Nothing else. Decided to drive it carefully to work.

About 5 minutes in, I lost power for a split second again, then the SLIP and TCS lights came on.

Narcotix, i'm based in South Birmingham, hopefully Nurrish can come to my rescue!!

It does sound very similar to Shire's issue a while back ...

I've just noticed that you've posted this in the JDM Import section ... The only problem I can think of is that most OBDII readers don't really work with import vehicles ...

Have you tried the ECU Reset procedure?

You can read the error code by counting the flashing CEL just before you reset the ECU ... might be worth trying that if the CEL is currently lit .. You can find the Reset procedure in the Guides section.

Quick update guys;

Nurrish had a go to see if his ODB-II reader would work, no such joy.

My mechanic tried, still no joy.

ECU reset, i can't do it, will keep trying though.

So, does anybody know where there s an ODB-II reader which works on JDM cars??

There's a whole thread on exactly that question.

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=32987&p=506406&hilit=odb+code+reader#p506406

So far, no one has been able to suggest an affordable reader that most of us are looking for. There is an expensive product (Innovate LM2) that needs an O2 sensor welded into the exhaust downpipe to give it full functionality, but nothing that you can just plug into the car and read easily.

I've given ina nd went to a local tuning specialist close by and paid to have the cel code read.

And the result is...............

Camshaft Position Sensor Bank 1 Code P0340

GREAT!!!!

Nice one .. I thought it would pobably be that as the symptoms were too similar to Shire's or it to be anything else ..

I think Nissan do them as a pair for £130 ... but you might be able to get them cheaper from a Forum Trader ... Try ZmanAlex

Hi all, quick update for you.

My sensor should be with me tomorrow (BIG thanks to zmanalex for that)

I have also been digging around the web and found this little device.

I have spoken to a few companies and they all believe that this reader should work on all import jap cars plus EU and UK ones. I have seen it cheaper on amazon and other various sites at £165. Its not cheap!

Think i will invest on my returns from a New York stagg do!
