Reading Fault codes

Long story short, cant be assed with Nissan charging me £100 for the 3 seconds it takes to read my engine management light everytime it comes on.

 

I have a '03 Jap import, can I use a ODBII reader like the one here: to read my car?

Actually after some reason, all 2000> onwards jap imports need a JOBD reader like this one:

I've not heard about this before, and I'm pretty certain that in some earlier threads, members had been successfully using standard OBD11 code readers for both UK and JDM cars. Maybe better do a search to confirm this (or somebody else might be able to clarify for you) before you spend the extra cash.

Some Jap cars need a special OBDII reader to read codes and stuff, but the 350Z isn't one of them. You can buy any old thing and it'll work.

I haven't had a chance to test the code reader side of it yet, since fitting it my car has stopped throwing the code

Does anybody know if there is a code reader that interfaces with a Mac rather than a PC laptop?

If you follow the ECU reset procedure in the service manual you can induce flashing CEL which repeats so you can read it yourself.

Didnt say anything about flashing the code(s) to you.

 

Thats cool, but at the same time ive just wasted my money!

Just to clarify, you prob havnt wasted money!! There is a way of getting the light to start flashing, it will flash a number of times and you have to count them, the number of flashes will then equate to the code that can be found on here. One thing is that its hard to read and also hard to get rid of!! Code reader will do the job far quicker and much more efficiantly!!

what software you running on yours mark? seems to give alot more info like intake temp, revs, AFR etc....

Just an update on this, I purchased the code reader and it didnt work.

 

The guy on ebay was false advertising the product as it didnt read EODB or JODB.

 

Waste of time...

 

Ended up performing the accelerator pedal dance jobby thing (ended up having to use a stop watch to get the timing so accurate). and got the code that way.

 

Was confusing tho... all I got was 10 flashes, then 3 flashes, then 7 flashes...

 

but the code wasnt P1037, it was P0037???
