northernmunkeh Posted August 2, 2009 Share Posted August 2, 2009 Well I've have had the 350z for 3 years now and I'm thinking it might be time for a 911 I had a test drive in a 996 turbo - very impressed with the power - the salesman's neck nearly ripped clean off : ) however I'm struggling to weigh up the cost and if it would be worth the huge amount of extra money to both buy and run! they were asking £30,000 for it I did get quite a good trade in price - £10,000 for my azue gt, rays, fnsh, with 66000 miles Will a 911 996 turbo ruin a mere mortal financially? I'd be financing the difference to keep my savings. I'd also have to buy a warranty for some sort of cover for a huge bill. I've also been looking at 996 carrera 2, carrera 4, and carrera 4 S (with turbo wide body) but I'd definately prefer the turbo for obvious reasons : ) help! Make sure you get all the costs for servicing/brake discs/pads/tyres etc, i'm sure it'll be a fair bit more. Is it on the cheap old tax bracket? Insurance costs? The running costs on a £100K+ car are going to be insane, warranty or not. Service has got to be around £1000 for starters, then there's pads and discs and all the other bits that'll need doing... If you need to ask the question, then you probably can't afford it. Personally I'd rather have a 996 C2S than a turbo for the more involving drive, or even better a 993. P15UL T Posted August 2, 2009 Share Posted August 2, 2009 £20k on finance whats wrong with that ?? i had to do that when buying the zed a friend of a friend has just bought a 54 plate 911 turbo for about £50K absoultly stunning car and i cant wait to get a run in it as its suppose to be a monster, he has a porsche before and i heard my mate saying that one of the services are £3.5K i think he has a friend in the garage that did it for £1.5k but even then i suppose the GTR will be simalir and that is my next car Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Indyzed Posted August 7, 2009 Share Posted August 7, 2009 I would think a 911 turbo could put you in the poor house. Ask yourself this. After making your monthly payment, paying for registration and insurance could you afford to pay for a repair should the turbo decide to commit suicide? I've know good friends who wanted and bought nice used high end cars and they paid dearly for it when they broke down. My cousin has a 911 and some of his repair bills nearly gave me a stroke. I almost hesitate to say this but if you're questioning whether or not this car could hurt financially then I'd say you probably shouldn't buy one. Read up on porcshe owners forums and on pistonheads. Here is not the place. As a purchase it's not bad but as an ownership prospect it's a different kettle of fish. My mate is a porsche specialist and I have been told the costs that some owners face when something simple goes..... Engine out for a lot of jobs. ab350z Posted August 8, 2009 Share Posted August 8, 2009 Have to agree with what a few folk have said, if you have to ask then the answer is no. I asked a similar question of the Noble M12 as I'd been accepted for finance and was on my way to put a deposit down. Read the forums and although I could quite easily budget for the finance, insurance, tax and annual service, its the things that hit you when you least expect it on cars like this that could quite easy tip you in serious financial deepwater. On the other shoulder, you only live once mate, finance yourself to the t1ts and let someone else worry about it when you leave this world, clutching at photos of the 911 you once owned!!
