austin350z Posted June 9, 2009 Share Posted June 9, 2009 Although i've been into modified cars since i could drive, its only now at the ripe age of 30 i'm actually doing the modifiying work myself with some help from experts when required. I feel its only fair to make newbie people aware that these spoilers/splitters/body accessories countless people sell you require a lot more that just Bolting/ bonding on or Tiger sealing! whilst you can go down this route and it will look like the 'chav down the road's bolt on Corsa kit' they don't ever fit as perfectly as people would lead you to believe, they require trimming, filing, filling/blending some more than others to look good I'm no idiot or nieve but its opened my eyes and respect more now for what bodyshops have to do to create our dreams. Please someone back me up and agree or is it all the body kit bits ive come across / bought ' don't say what they do on the tin' Reality is you will pay at least the same again and probably more what you paid for your item to get fitted, prep'd and painted Before: During: After TBC: around friday this week Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

From experience, largely due to the great work done by Phil and his bodyshop I now like the one stop approach, supply, spray and fit. rtbiscuit Posted June 9, 2009 Share Posted June 9, 2009 good body shops are worth their weight in gold. and generally i find they don't tend to advertise that well either. most go on word of mouth. is it worth us building a thread page of bodyshops around the country that do a good job with contact details and a pic of their work. make it a sticky or something so that 9i nthe future we have a directory of good places to go. could always make a matching one with places to avoid as well with pics of the devastation. They buy the used molds and use the same process and materials as the originals... the reason why they are cheaper is that they dont have the R+D I dont think I have seen or heard many reports where the original kits are a problem, mine certainly wasnt... Seen some shocking copys recently and seen ones where the body shops have said "sorry not touching that its not worth it!" when you get a body shop like that you know you have a good one as they wouldnt want to put their name to rubbish... I got them sprayed and then fitted them myself. Perfect gaps and everything. Maybe I was just lucky, or maybe buying genuine parts such as Nismo means they will fit without any prep work? "Someone correct me if im wrong here" Because nismo are directly related to Nissan, a Genuine kit should in theory fit using minimal mods and i mean minimal. its like buying a standard car but then putting a genuine "SRI, GTI ect" upgrade kit on. The part are made in conjunction with nissan so they should fit right on with no mess. so your right my friend buying genuine means piece of mind that the kit will fit as nismo intended. rtbiscuit Posted June 10, 2009 Share Posted June 10, 2009 i bought OEM aftermarket parts before, but i normally buy 2nd hand crash damamge stuff cheap and rebuild it, so i know exactly how much work is involved in it. i currently have a nismo copy in the garage which needs work, but it was previously fitted so all the work has been done. all i have to do is repair all the damamge and flush the badge, and change a few bits.
