This evening I started removing the front subframe to realise the block can't be lowered because the steering rack is in the way, which means I'll have to lift the block up and out instead.

Not the end of the world, but just pain to set up the lift 😞

Ultimately this is the right choice. You cannot do this kind of work without taking the block out. If if you managed it you’d be making compromises you’d likely later regret.

Finally decided to drop the block down instead of lifting it out.

By removing the roll bar (which needs powder coating anyway) I've now plenty of space to pull the block out the tranny and down. 🙂

Cracking thread this one, coming along well.

You staying stock or going to go FI in the process ?

Cheers Willsy. 400bhp is plenty enough for me so I'll be staying stock

Are these fine for road use mate, or just track?  refurbing the arbs myself but was stuck between these and Hardrace bushings.

Spot on for road use, great little upgrade over worn rubber bushes

Haha no way, I owned this car for a tiny amount of time last year, I had my supercharged 350z at the time so ended up selling it to my friend for the same price I paid for it. He unfortunately didn't own it for too long and had the new clutch installed.

Hey Alex, it's a small world, if you're around japfest next year or other club meets you'll see it again. Just gotta pull my finger out and fix it 🙂

Bit of an update, my new valve seals arrived yesterday and today I've spent rebuilding the heads. The heads passed their pressure tests and had a very light skim at Knights engineering.

The valves were minging and I had them vapor blasted.

Valves before;

Bet that's a relief about the heads pal 😉

Too right, especially after seeing loads of recent posts of coolant leaking into the spark plug tubes. 🙂

I've had a very good time in the office this evening and definitely got to the root cause of the engine knock.

The main bearings don't look too bad considering they've done 140k miles.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the big end bearing that caused the knock hasn't damaged the crank. I'll find that out on Thursday!  🙂

Bad news with the crank. The big end bearing has spun and it's also bent slightly. I'm getting the mains and pin journals reground to straighten back up and fit undersized bearings.
