Symptoms on my HR @ 72k miles;.

Low oil pressure

a bit jittery at low speed / rpm

revs doing some odd things.

Spoke to to someone today who said it could be the oil gasket? What does anyone else think? How can this be  diagnosed ?

Is this a job any good mechanic can do?

Attached is my warm idle oil pressure.

Oil gallery gaskets - very common issue on HR's - take it to someone who has done it before, it's not a small job.

Costs about £800 to fix - I believe the oil pan can be pulled to see if any paper gasket material is in there, however looking at your oil pressure it looks like that's the issue.

Abbey Motorsport or Horsham Developments are the best if you are close to either

Surely this is a job that can be carried out by a good mechanic?

Indeed, however, a Nissan Indy specialist would also be my recommendation.

Hi echo what everyones saying take it to someone who is competent and recommended , just had mine done and difference is clear as well as peace of mind , I went to a mechanic who was recommended by a forum member that just had their HR  done :teeth::teeth:

Its not a difficult job just a big fussy job that requires care, patience and common sense. Sadly they are the hardest things to find in most garages!

Parts cost a couple of quid so its 95% labour you're paying for but better to get someone with experience who'll get the job done without issue for you rather than learn the job on your car

I haven't used them before, but they have been recommended to me. They seemed like a professional setup when i saw them yesterday. Booked in for next Wednesday for a proper oil pressure check to make sure its not just my gauge reading wrong.

Its not going to be a cheap trip. I have this job + New exhaust (ordering a cobra cat back system), brake pads and possibly discs and possibly some suspension bits. I dont think ill have much change from 2k :(

So an update on this.

Gaskets replaced and oil pressure back to 30psi at hot idle

Unfortunately in addition to the cracked sump housing the car developed a problem with the ecu during the work and the idle reset wouldn’t work. The ecu needed to be sent off to be re-flashed. This added an extra £500 to my already big bill. But I’m so happy to have the car back and working well (so far)

Only thing to mention is that the ecu light is always on now when driving. I’ve been advised to just cover it. My insurance went up by £2.65 for the year with the removal of the immobiliser.

I had a van for the 7 weeks my car was in the garage. The zed feels like rocket now.

Horsham sorted my idle out on my HR and removed the immobiliser and the little red light stays on now. Can cover it or just leave it if it doesn’t bother you

Yes they are the ones who did mine. I’m glad to see it’s not just mine with the red light on. Horsham have been really helpful with the whole job actually. I’ll be going up for an Uprev at some point.

I got use to the light being on now. I had my idle fixed then had a remap straight after, you might save a bit on the uprev as I believe you need the licence to sort the idle out

What difference did you find the remap made? Gains aren’t huge are they?

Throttle response is better, didn’t make a massive difference. I believe it was around 20bhp but didn’t really bother me as I knew not to expect much. Pops and bang map is fun though

My HR sits at just about 30PSI per 1000RPM (30 psi by the gauge anyway not sure how much I trust the numbers on it lol) so I think mine sits just below at a 700RPM idle.

so this is looking about right then? I hear people saying it should be on 30 but my is slightly below. My revs seems quite low though so maybe it’s that.

My HR sits just below 30 maybe 28ish and that’s at 650-750rpm

Could also be a few different things after my first oil change my resting pressure changed. Called the last owner and he had filled it with 0W-40 oil rather than 5W-30 so when I put the spec stuff in the pressure changed slightly. But i think most cars will sit a little differently thanks to all the different ages and wear on parts etc. you look to be in the ballpark so to speak so to me at least yours sounds fine :D
