Odd clutch noise

Recommended Posts

When idling my car is making a bit of an unpleasant noise. The noise goes when I depress the clutch. I think that perhaps this might be the release bearing? There is no obvious signs of clutch slippage. I hate the racket it is making but aside from the noise is a faulty clutch bearing an immediate problem? I'm getting married soon so this is not a good time for me to forking out on a new clutch.

Thanks

No everything seems to work fine. I noticed the noise every now and again in the past but now it's almost always there. It goes as soon as the clutch is pressed. The car is louder in gear as well but with the engine and exhaust sound it's not clear. Sounds rough as hell from outside the car if it's just idling. 😞

Mine does the same and so do many 350s. Replaced the clutch, including the release bearing, and it's still there. Just learn to live with it.

Would be nice if I can get at least 6 months out of it before having to get it fixed.

A lack of vibration mean you're probably not having fly wheel issues. Swapping the clutch might not even fix it. Can you get underneath while someone works the clutch if you have access to a ramp? It might be easier to locate the noise from underneath.

They tend to make a little more noise with a lightened fly too. I had my OEM replaced a while back due to this rattle at idle. The old clutch had plenty of meat left on it so it was defiantly bearing related in my case. As yet with the new OEM clutch, bearings and fly it hasn't returned but if it does I'm not bothered as I now know it's pretty normal as stated above.

Mine also does this. And sounds rough on low revs when in gear, but disappears as soon as clutch is depressed. Had new clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylinder. So a bit clueless as to what it could be.

If some Zeds do it, and some don't, I can't see it as normal and shouldn't be something we should live with. Surely someone knows what this is and how to remedy it.

I think mine is the input shaft bearing. And as far as I can tell the gearbox will either have to be sent off or replaced. I'm waiting it out for now

Had mine taken apart and a specialist couldn't diagnose it, so I gave up caring.

I've spoken with a few garages. General consensious is it could last years yet. once the gearbox comes out the car might as well have a new clutch so the costs will be similar if repaired now or after the gearbox fails so I'm just waiting until I need a new clutch or the problem becomes worse before I do anything.

I might add a gearbox additive as a temporary measure.

I think I'm in this gang. Mines a slight noise when in neutral or clutch depressed. I'd like to say it's gone when gears engaged but I cant really hear it over the exhaust, it's only a quiet noise. Gear changes are fine. Clutch seems good. Anyway, just dipping my bread to keep updated on this thread.

Morning All,

Seems the noise mine is making might be 'normal'...which is kind of worrying.

Similar to those above, I thought it was the clutch release bearing so replaced that along with the clutch and putting a lightened flywheel on. The noise was still there, and if anything, a bit more pronounced when warm.

The worst bit is changing gear quickly at higher revs; it's still smooth but you can hear 'backlash' when you lift off to change gear.

Does this sound familiar with anyone else or is this worse than normal? I'll try and get a video at some point.

Also worth noting, a lightened flywheel will give out some chatter, mine is the same and is to be expected.

Some say if you use a heavier transmission fluid then it lessens the noise but I wouldn't advise it.

Tried it, drove it and found gear changes to be a struggle, drained it and put recommended weight back in.
