upping 35 to 40's on the back ok?

Your current F/R difference is 3%, if you upped it to 40 profile tyres on the rear it would be 7%, which is quite a jump. However, to the TCS it would appear the rear is rotating slower due to the larger rolling radius, so I am unsure how the TCS would react to that.

Seems strange that people are making calcs on wheel circumferences based on profile, but with no mention of tyre widths on which to base that profile!

I have ran different sizes front rear. Currently running 245/35/18s all round. Front have pretty much same circumference as stock, rears smaller.

You also have to remember that the TCS system must make allowances for tyre wear. New tyres on front, old on rear and you could have a 12mm+ diameter discrepancy, not to mention tyre manufacturer discrepancies in what they deem a 245/35/18 (or whatever tyre size) is.

You change in profile will make no difference, the TCS will work fine.

The height of the sidewall profile * tyre width profile is given as a percentage, so 235/40 means the sidewall will be 235 * 0.4).

You'll need to calculate the difference that you're going to create from standard, and find out what the tolerance of the TCS is to determine if you'll cause issues.

This might help:
