European Road trip any suggestions

Recommended Posts

Hi folks,

In September I'm heading off for the wife's 30th birthday on a 12 day Road trip through France, Switzerland, Austria and back through Germany. Germany last so there's chance for a cheeky lap or two of the ring.

The question is has anybody done such a monster run and can give any tips. Other than drag a petrol tanker behind us.

Also Amy good mountain passes you can suggest or must see's in any of the 4 countries mentioned.

Cheers Matt

If you're near the Ring visit Cochem in the Moselle Valley stock up with white wine etc lol

Been to the ring twice before and to Cochem it a fab drop down out of the mountain to a beautiful place. Good tip cheers

black forest road near Baden Badem is also good, not as spectacular but a good drive

Great road but some scary bits. I remember lapping on round down a straight and just as I slowed for the bend as I got round the other side a bike was wedged between 2 trees.....the only thing stopping him from taking the shortest shortcut he'd ever take down a massive embankment!

yea you definitely gain some height! we did it on bikes but we were on tourers so no real speed to be had. there were a few lads on sportsbikes pushing on. very little room for error!

bloody good road though

Not wanting to sound like a reckless hooligan lol but sounds like my kind off road. Although been a sports bike rider and my last rear wheel drive motor been a lot lighter, I am finding the Z a little lardy and weighing more to the Gt side. That said she handles herself well for a fat girl :-o

I'll give the forum some feedback once I have completed it, Needless to say I am making a couple of detours to see family and friends in the area too.

Been once and keen to go again. Sorting some routes out ATM and can't wait. Will dig out our old route and recommend some good roads

Ken, Phil and I went around Austria / Switzerland in 2014 and i fell in love with the roads, food and views down there. We have plans to return and to support this i have researched quite a few of the surrounding routes. Here was the list of roads i had penciled in as candidates. Hope it helps.
