kidofthe80s Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Hello There Was giving my Z and quick inspection this morning and notice the coolant in the reservoir tank was below the minimum mark. Any advice on what type or brand of coolant should I be topping up my reservoir tank with ? Read previous posts and it looks like folks use genuine Nissan coolant L248 Premix ? Is this OK for a 2005 Z ? What a typical cost of bottle of this coolant ? For reference the coolant appears to be a mixture of green/blue in color. Thanks for your help in advance. Kidofthe80s Quote
ZMANALEX Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 You should really top up with similar to what is in the system at the moment. However L248 is what Nissan recommend and is circa £20.00 for 4 / 5 lts. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 If its only a little below the mark, then it wont hurt to top it up with water, but if its empty then a mix would be better, pretty sure that green and blue can be mixed, so its up to you. Quote
Darkside Posted February 19, 2016 Posted February 19, 2016 Jap performance Ltd have told me that the Zed requires green only and that no colours should be mixed due to the chemical makeup of the individual products. Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted February 20, 2016 Posted February 20, 2016 Green and blue can usually be mixed, they are silicate and phosphate based, whereas OAT and HOAT which are organic acid type and usually red cannot be mixed with other types. 1 Quote
kidofthe80s Posted February 22, 2016 Author Posted February 22, 2016 Thanks for the advice all. Will be popping down to the local Nissan dealership to see if they have any in stock. Quote
EcoFriendlyAL Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 Does low coolant in the header tank mean there is a leak somewhere or does the 350Z use a certain amount of coolant every X amount of miles? Cheers AL Quote
ZMANALEX Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 (edited) Coolant level should only be checked and topped up when cold as hot and cold levels will be different. Edited July 10, 2016 by ZMANALEX 1 Quote
bytespc Posted July 10, 2016 Posted July 10, 2016 not hijacking the topic as its sort of relevant , has anyone used the waterless coolant as a replacement ?, I know its a mare to do as you have to flush the old stuff out and then run a decontanament before you put in the coolant but then its for life . I looked into it but dont see any benefit in fact there are many reports that its not as effective at cooling Quote
Tricky-Ricky Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 When i had a look at this, i discovered that a lot of cars seem to run higher coolant temps, which i suppose backs up the claims that it has better temperature transference properties, but also seem to indicate that the cooling system needs a bit of a revamp to use it effectively, personally regardless of filling for life, it also gives you no chance to periodically check the state of the system by draining or topping up. Ricey Posted July 11, 2016 Posted July 11, 2016 Leak, they shouldn't use any coolant at all. Or evap. Could be a dodgy pressure cap Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk 1 Quote
